Another gas incident .... How many times have you heard about gas being put in the wrong hole? They got extremely lucky that no one was injured! Fire Department said it was a miracle that it wasn't worse.
Thank you for the shout out. It was great to meet you both! Captain Greg Nash
Key West Marine or the "Cuban Place' was started by the grandfather who left Cuba after his business there was nationalized. It is a family-run business and they do an outstanding service to many of us who knew little about alot of things. The guys there spent alot of time with me on a number of times which I sincerely appreciated. Key West is expensive for everything! My boat was slipped at the Us Naval Base Boca Chica Marina for a number of years. RH..now in Leesburg, Florida
Awesome we love Amberto, Nick, and Frida …. Now Nick is the main squeeze their 👍
A very nice very large Stevens yacht had just filled up with Diesel, but not in the fuel tank, in the back water tank. They were under way and the wife used the head which cause the tank to vent overboard. The Coast Guard found a slick and follow it. They coughed up the yacht and had it stop at the harbor where I was at. The harbor master was furious because the stuff was spreading around our harbor now. I felt so bad for the man and wife. It was the fuel dock attendant where they fuel it that couldn’t read “Wast”. In our harbor the attendant turns on the pump and collects payment but won’t fill your boat.
You have to be responsible for fill or watching so this doesn’t happen.
I have heard this happening before. When I was in Brielle, NJ, someone did the very same thing
It’s crazy right?
My buddy has a boat shop I work at from time to time,,, we had a Sea Pro come in and he did the same thing with the gas in the rod holder, this time they shut the whole gas station down and the road and all ,,, but,,, thank goodness nobody was drinking,,,😂
Same thing happened here Matt just didn’t share … they closed the gas station all that happened an hour away from us.
👍👍 Hope everyone has a good week. 👍
Hey did you hear me call you out 🤣 we have a fat cat in KWest!
@WillFixThat yes I did I love it 😻😻
My fuel fill is next to a rod holder. I always put a rod in the holder when fueling in order to avoid that mistake.
Excellent idea 👍 keeps you safe.
A hinkley picnic boat :)
Yup 👍
I actually have a friend who did that at a fuel dock.
He was a guest on another friend's boat and helped out while the owner of the boat went inside and stuck the fuel nozzle in the rod holder. The gas ran out onto the deck and into the scuppers and in the water.
It turned into a hazmat scene and was fined by DERM.
My friend is a smart guy and successful business owner but doesn't know much about boats, lol.
Sad it is so easy to happen if you’re not paying attention when getting fuel.
Love your videos!! Makes me miss Key West
Thanks was choosing to watch us Frank share us with your friends!
Thats crazy. Gotta make sure the gas goes in the "gas" tank....lol.
Happens more often than what we know!
I know someone in the merrimack river in Newburyport that dumped 15 gallons of fuel through the rod holders and right into the hull. Entire gas dock was shut down and boat was towed up the river to so they can pull it out, empty the gas and clean the hell out of the bilge lol. Thank god I work on boats in land in Hampstead, NH away from the water lol.
Yup sounds like someone wasn’t paying attention!
@@WillFixThat Oh yeah! It's coming up 10 years in August when that happened and we still give him a hard time over it haha
Great episode! Keep Fixing it! Stay safe WillFixThat team! 👍👍👊👊
Thanks for choosing to watch us!

Ive got 2 tips. All rental boats should have a hose from the rodholder to a thruhull. Second tip......dont let snyone else ever fill your boat
Exactly on you fill it or watch very carefully.
Excellent video
Thanks for choosing to watch us!
Probably a deal like ......hold my beer watch this!?!
Terrible right?
Has the owner of the gas in the fresh water tank, cut out and replaced his tanks yet?
Not yet he hasn’t been back yet!
Never underestimate the mind of a Googan..
People just NOT paying attention!
I cant believe that you are not capturing the bad gas and properly disposing of it. Just washing it out of the boat is not very environmentally friendly. And no I’m not a tree hugger. Ion a positive not I do enjoy your videos!
The boat didn’t have gas when it came to us. The firefighters captured the gas.
I'm kinda surprised this stuff dosen't happen more commonly.
Majority of boat owners have no idea why there is bilge blowers. Most don't even use them.
Fuel injection has probably fixed most of the issues, but the fumes are still flammable.
Exactly right.
A giant hazmat call. This vacation is history most likely and at worse a maxed out credit card - if not a big EPA/DEPviolation. When will people learn, boats are not toys and the boat and the sea are aways doing their best to sink, maim, or kill careless boaters. We had an associate who ran a resort/rental cabins in Canada , he lost a son to the water the son while netting (alone) for bait fish. Apparently the net caught him pulled him from the boat, his boots/waders filled with water and he drowned. The boy a good, smart careful kid, spent all of his life on the lakes. Do not trust the water, one carless, or unexpected moment can end in a horrible tragedy. Safety first, fun and speed second. .
When we got it there was no gas it was just firefighting foam residue.
rats so no fried chicken on the menu in Key West :D hehe
Fried chicken is a food group in Matt’s mind 🤣
@@WillFixThat 👍👍😂😂🤣🤣
Just wait until the EPA starts requiring diesel powered watercraft to have after treatment on the exhaust. It won't be long before someone manages to fill a diesel tank with DEF.
We are seeing boats with DEF already.
Love Harpon Harry's for breakfast also like Peppy's. It been awhile since we have been down. Need to come down and visit.
Yup both very good …. Check out Moondog’s when you’re down again! Great food.
I hear about gas in the rod holder at least a few times per year 🤦♂️. I’ll be down next weekend staying at Oceans Edge for a couple weeks. I’ll keep an eye out for you.
Awesome hopefully we meet! You coming down for fun?
Just pull out the spark plugs if water is in the engine then crank it over and see what spurts out water... Unless it is diesel then ... No spark plugs😊 maybe pull out the injectors
Thanks for sharing!
Happened to me one time on my brothers boat I flipped the the gas cap open grab the pump. It barely reached turned around turned the pump on when I went back. It was really easy pump 15 gallons in it next morning I realized it was in the bottom of the boat wash, washing the bottom of the boat and two years later, it still smell like gasoline.
Oh Dale that sucks… yes the smell lingers!
Strange that the scuppers wouldn't have caught that. Of course they are probably plugged up with leaves and needles.
Sounds like you have experience with leaves and needles plugging the drains! 😊
@@WillFixThat Yes I do. And like you experience, nobody listens to the advice given to them.
Didn't I see an identical incident on Reddit a few days ago? Was it this one? Do they make caps for rod holders?
They do or just tape it off or like another viewer said he puts a rod in the holder! 👍
@@WillFixThat Put a rod in the rod holder? What madness is that?
@@Bigrignohioagree it’s simple.
Gas doesn't just make a pop type explosion it blows up like a bomb and then it does not just go out it keeps burning like a flame thrower so something is weird about their story😀
We called the Marathon fire department and they verified and said that they were lucky to be alive! They cleaned up the gas.
Sounds like an "alcohol involved" incident !
I’m not sure but do t think so since they were traveling here for vacay!
Was that a Henkley boat??🤔🤔
Yes 👍
@@WillFixThat 👍👍
Hinkley?
Yes Mark 👍
The guy never really got all the gas smell out the boat it still has kinda a gas smell
You wouldn’t believe it but everything ended up working on this boat. They went off and enjoyed their vacation.
People that put fuel in their rod holders are just gas holes…
🤣 oh my gosh
I did that. No shit. The saving grace was the bilge plug was out. I remember watching the gas pour out and trying to logic out how. I thought the fuel tube was off.
OMG Gus that sucks. You are very lucky no one or yourself were hurt. Thanks for sharing. Yup accidents happen.
I had a customer do the same thing (40 Gallons) before he realized it. It went into the cuddy cabin and delaminated everything. He just bought the boat and was in a hurry to meet his girlfriend at the dock. Needless to say his wife was not happy that he ruined his boat before he had it in the water. Girlfriend was not happy either as she sat at the doc waiting a long time for him. We laughed and laughed at him 😂
Karma will get you! 🤣
I have seen this happen so many times. It is best that those people never own a boat again. Or stop drinking 😂… It is Darwin’s natural selection for boaters.
You crazy 🤪 🤣 you might be right! People need to pay attention!
The guy was drunk. That's what alcohol does. Case solved.
I'm not sure ... but don't think so since they were traveling down here for vacation and stopped to get gas an hour away from us.
well having a gas boat you have to be careful number one first thing you do you turn the power on turn your blowers on open your hatches to your engines you want to evacuate any fumes wait 10 minutes minimum before you start those engines? What it sounds like to me it's a rookie mistake really I mean Jesus you know it says fuel on the cap where you put the fuel in and water on the water cap where you put the water in now if you don't read and you put the fuel hose in your rod holder you're not going to get fuel in your tank if you don't fill the bilge full of explosive gasoline really stupid
People just not paying attention.
i wouldnt do a video on this just for the tree hugger green peace guys calling the EPA on me
When we got the boat there was no gas it was just firefighting foam residue.
So you expect clean pristine waters and coast lines with healthy habitat.... Until your needs supersedes all others. Good to know loser.
12 minutes of nothingness!
Move along then.
How do y’all recover the contaminated water/fuel?
The fire department did that when it happened. We got the boat days later to fix whatever needed to be replaced.
