What would you do? Last week our video was about us struggling to get paid by boat owners and now we are faced with our truck mechanic not wanting to bill us for our big green truck. We need to pay our mechanic WHEN and IF he gives us a bill. It's an unfortunate situation since our mechanic is feeling really lousy about not being able to repair our truck it doesn't help if its an intermittent problem. Like anything its all in how you respond and we have been nothing but kind to him ... we have no idea what parts he's used. We have not paid him anything and we have asked numerous times for a bill. We want him to feel empowered and not drag his tail when he sees us. đŸ€”

Check out Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics. If your problem is intermittent electrical, there is no one on the planet better equipped to figure it out. He has a CZcams channel, so he would probably jump at the chance to work on your car as a cross channel promotion. I can't tell you how many "parts cannon" failed repairs he has figured out.

The time to tell the customer you can’t fix it is after you diagnose it and can’t find the problem, if you start guessing and swapping parts that’s on you as a mechanic. No customer should have to pay for your guesses.

There is a difference between part swappers and technicians. Diesels are especially important to diagnose properly. You can easily find yourself throwing lots of $$ just throwing parts at a problem when the root isn’t found. If you aren’t testing, you are guessing.

Just for the heck of it, I'd like to throw this idea out there....
If it happens to be stalling occasionally, try replacing the gas cap. You might be getting an occassional vapor lock (if that's a proper term) because the fuel cap will no longer seal properly.
Not a mechanic, but had this problem on 2 p/u trucks. First time drove me crazy. Was prepared for it on the other truck.
It's a very simple solution to an otherwise often overlooked and not considered cause to a problem.

I have had a few that the next guy coming behind me found the issue and fixed it and I have done that behind others several times. I have seen many wiring issues and electrical problems on these older trucks. It should be something a mechanic can drive if having enough time driving home or away from shop when on personal time while monitoring scan data and scope data for any glitches or issues that are not common.

    2. I (personally) believe that on long term jobs (over say 2 weeks) the shop/customer need to be having emailed communication and parts and labor should be paid up as it goes. Also major parts prepaid.
    3. Intermittent diagnostics are a special case. Customers and the shop doing the need to agree to an initial diagnosis time limit/ dollar amount before starting work. Much of the diagnosis is determined by the information provided by the customer.
(had a mini excavator running out of hydraulic power, brought into the shop under warranty, customer did not clean it, would not pay to clean, warranty was not going to!!, eventually service manager authorized time to steam the machine, 3 hours later, found the customer had shoved a melon sized rock into the suction hose. What are the symptoms of your 7.3? I have a 1999 F250 SD with the 7.3 and have solved many issues with it over the years on my own. The worst one to diagnose was the PCM was failing and kept throwing random errors and wouldn't start most of the time. I sent my PCM and IDM out to Full Force Diesel in Tennessee because they have a guy that can diagnose and repair them. The whole process was smooth and fast. They found my IDM was good but the PCM was bad. Truck ran great after I installed the repaired PCM. For random in-cab or transmission issues, the most likely problem is a leaking windshield that lets water follow your left window rail down and get into your GEM module (these trucks are known for that). The latter issue can cause really weird stuff like your truck randomly trying to start itself with no key in and while just sitting out in your driveway or your stereo and lights coming on at 3 AM in the morning. Trust me, that's all happened with mine lol. A no start condition is commonly caused by a faulty IPR, CPS or a bad ground. If the idle is erratic or the engine is surging then unplug the ICP and let the PCM use it's default values until you get a new ICP. Also, and this is very important, never use replacement parts bought on Amazon or Ebay. They are almost all cheap Chinese knock-offs that, many times, are packaged with OEM Ford or other reputable manufacturer's branding and you'll get "new" DOA parts or they die almost immediately after installation.

@@WillFixThat You guys were pretty clumsy in the engine room adjusting the valves on the Volvo, figuring out your tools and what side of the engine you were on! Maybe the Fat Cat that owns it wouldn't catch it but I did.

Something fishy there, next time you go to his shop, you need to get eyes on it and make sure
it is still there. Have him show you what he did and find out if it's back together and demand it back.

I disagree if you don’t fix something why would you expect to be paid!!!

We expect to be paid because our contract says we don’t guarantee
. And people want us to come try EVEN thought they are leaving tomorrow! We maybe in a unique position since we are on an island! Parts take longer and people are passing through hoping we can fix them 98% of the time we can BUT sometimes parts aren’t available! If you’ve watched us for any ant of time you can see what we achieve down here 👍
