- Following a weekend of cheeseburgers and relaxed camping, I travel south out of Kalispell, into the National Forests of southwestern Montana. There, I explore primitive roads in the Jeep, savor hot springs, discover historical ruins, sample local fare, and summit charred mountains.
I find myself binge watching episodes on this channel. It has become my favorite adventure channel.
I finally came up with why i think your videos so relaxing... it's because of no music. I like it.
I tell you. His videos are so simple yet so good. No crazy special effects. No borrowed free music. Just simple real nature sounds, stove sounds, and real sounds of the Jeep and the open road.
So real amd down to earth!
Love it!
You're right! I never really put that together before you mentioned it, but the lack of background music is actually what sets Chris's channel apart from the others. He definitely has a nice approach to his style of production.
Agreed. Love how there's no music, in comparison to most other channels.
Chris, I also appreciate you not putting music in the videos. Keep up the great work!
I agree. There are a few channels I follow that overdo the music and the sped up film. I like their videos but the content would be 100% better if they just focused on camp life, scenery and the travel.
New sub here. I just wanted to echo the sentiments of some of your other viewers about the lack of music in your videos. Actually hearing everything going on is great!. Hearing the tires grabbing and slipping here and there. Hearing the birds chirping, the coleman stove as you're cooking. This is what I appreciate in a big way.
Agreed you are so right no music make a huge difference.
Occasionally walking by on trail provides perspective which I think is important.
same with drive by's.
That mudman burger just made me real hungry!
Oh man
Killer shots again Chris. The orange Jeep against the white snow and fall colours is perfect, and something we rarely see here in Australia.
Dude Chris, when you fell you had me so worried. I was glad to see you were able to get back up and that you were okay. I love your videos. It is a great way to see the natural beauty the US has. It gets me excited to one day own a Jeep and go explore! Keep up the great work!
Well done Chris, you had one more date than I had this week, oh well back to the produce aisle.
Hi Chris, I always marvel at the video shots you take of your jeep coming and going, and in this case the long range shot of you driving away from the overlook. Talk about time consuming and patience to capture just the right mood for the video! Thank you so much for your hard work, and hard work it must be to have to go back and pick up/set up your camera for these awesome shots.
I just bought the BROG trial creeper, a couple months back. Game changer when having to crawl under the truck on a trail.
For me, it's a little lonely if you go on adventures like this alone. Thanks to youtube, you get to share this stuff with tons of people. In a way, you're taking us with you on your adventures.
Roy Tating - To each their own, but better alone than lonely in two or in a crowd. Like this, it’s total freedom, peace and quiet! 👍🏼 $0.02
THE SHOT AT 12:42 IS AMAZING. SO MUCH PROPS. THE DEDICATION IS REAL! Love the channel! Keep it up!
Awesome video again ! I need to find your first video where you explain this and have a tour of your rig ... really appreciate all the time that goes into these ... helps get through the work weeks in between trips
All the perspectives you give us are great, they all show the act of hiking and the amazing scenery.
It’s so nice Chris, to see America thru your eyes.
Soooooo magnetic. Can't stop watching and imagine your experience..
Another great video Chris! I really enjoyed this weeks episode and was a great way to end the week. You sure managed to capture some beautiful shots. Stay safe!
Man... wish I could live your lifestyle. Keep up the journey!!
You can live it. Take a year off work.
We all can do this same thing but we are all scared to quit our jobs since we do not know where to get money from after that.
MyYTChannel - I hear banks have money. Only now it’s theirs
Whoa! The visuals in this episode are truly amazing!!!!!
You Consistently bring it! Great shots! I Love your stuff!
Beautiful area. Thank you so much for sharing
Amazing autumn vistas. Your work inspires me every week to one day venture forward on my own ...
I prefer the walking by & driving by shots. It provides the illusion that you are out in the wild with a big Hollywood crew!!!
Oh Chris. Don’t worry! You’ll find her!! 😂 If only you could see into the future!
Enjoyed this video of Montana country I'm familiar with. Peace and quiet in the mountains and around lakes is all it takes...LOL thanks
Your entire trip is half my bucketlist with my youngest son. Kudos
So much work! Run up ahead, setup for the camera shot, run back to the jeep, do the drive by, stop to run back for camera. Rinse ans repeat! Really appreciate the amount of work involved in making these videos.
Channel is slowly growing man! Been watching since around 4/5k subscribers. Always love the videos
Great Video 👍🏼 Montana is awesome Enjoy !!
You obviously put a ton of effort into getting your shots. Thank you for sharing your travels. Great work.
The dude abides. Subtle deadpan jokes and movie references made my day.
Great video, thank you!
Subbed! nice video, feeling so relaxed after watching this
Nice shot above strawberry lake. The beard is coming along too. As always, I look forward to your travels.
Awesome and inspiring video !
Keep it real my friend.
I have to pause here about 9 minute mark to say thanks for these kinds of shots! I love seeing your Jeep riding on these roads. No, you didn’t just say “a cool spot for a yurt”? Oh me, that a hot spot for sure!
Nice old town ,and nice video .keep rolling and keep safe .
That shot at 12:50 - really beautiful, and must have been an incredible amount of work, given how far away your tripod is from the Jeep. Gorgeous...
Hey 👋🏻 Chris, be crazy. Do both. Passing by and just a shot of the empty trail. 😂😂 Great video again 😬👌👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Your camera work is amazing. Placing & everything. We do realize that you go off and on a lot to get the shots... it's worth it! Editing is getting better everyday!
I like when you walk through the view, however when you do a series of landscape shots in a row and hold on a few that works really well too. I know setting up all these shots especially your "drive by" are time consuming, But they really UP your production value.
Thanks so much for all your great work on these videos.
Love your channel.
Really Great video, enjoy all of them, but I need to go to Montana now. Looking forward to next weeks video. Thanks again for no music!
such beautiful picturesque country side
I KNOW IT'S A LOT OF WORK BUT DO LOVE THE CAMERA SHOWING YOU COMING & GOING! BREATHTAKING VIEWS & COLORS ! BE SAFE!
Ive told you before but I love the show guys, so entertaining maybe cause we have the San Diego DNA in common but its just
super enjoyable to watch. thanks
Christo, you’re a great friend and I love you, but when you got into that Hot Spring pool, it reminded me of that scene when E.T. was pasty and dying in a creek. Regardless, another fantastic episode and we all miss you back East! ❤️
Super trip thank s for this vidéo it s dream life
Another great video!!! It’s a lot of work and time setting up all those shots and coming back to get your camera. Good job 👍
Great video Chris! If you make it to middle TN this winter, it would be fun to meet up.
Walking by the camera is much better, though I am no film specialist. Feels more like a story with a person rather than an empty trail. If you are not already watching Andrew St. Pierre's videos (4xOverland) I would recommend it. He talks about how to shoot overloading videos and they are of T.V. quality. Cheers!
Why not more followers the best video on youtube. Keep it up Chirs
Another great vid, second Mike D. is no music, that helps make them so good. I use ziploc bags a lot, great for cereal and anything that might leek. Helps increase storage and keeps things fresh.
Chris, you really need to get a little bell to hang on your back pack, so the Bears will hear you coming! You don't want to surprise a momma Bear with cubs!! Just an observation on your behalf.
You deserve way more subscribers
That was a cheeseburger in paradise!
I love your videos and wanted to check out your patreon but was having trouble finding it. I would recommend putting the links in the description of each video!
You can be warm and comfortable on top of a mountain. It takes a bit of effort but you could certainly manage it.
Q: Trail shots with or without you walking by?
A: Trail shots with you walking by are better than shots without, but handheld shots (with stabilization) of you walking down a trail are what draw the viewer in. How about a DJI Mavic Pro Drone in hyperlapse "follow" mode?
Beyond the tech stuff, just your personality whizzing by a camera is good enough in any mode. :)
G'day Chris just finished a "venture 4wd" marathon and now am up to date for yr weekly instalments,
I was wondering why do u cook on yr stove using gas when u have a fire going?
If u cook on the coals yr saving gas in turn saving money and more gas for another day or roadside lunch.
Keep on living the dream mate, love watching yr show from the land down under 👍
hey - youre right, mike. no background racket. i like it too.
You had more green food! Great video. Like other people have said many times I am glad you don't put music in your videos
Walking with camera is sublime
Another great episode. I love the snow camping, there's nothing more peaceful. You had some great long distance shots of the Jeep on some beautiful trails too. You're really upping your game with the cinematography. This was such a relaxing video.
Also I was curious about George Ives's hanging and found this - www.reginaldstanley.com/hanging-of-george-ives.php
Mudman burgers are awesome
Chili one is delicious
Chris, a suggestion for the water situation. MSR gravity filter. I have been using it for a few years and love it. Take water from any source and purify it. No more "questionable" water. I use it for filtering stream water when backpacking and it is very fast and simple. Best part is it packs small. Here is the link, they make 2L and 4L.

I needed a napkin just watching you eat lol
Livin the dream man.
Wish I could afford your waypoints! Heck wish I could afford to overland! Lol
Just beautiful to watch, in 1080P60, the detail is just stunning. Coming into summer in Australia and i hope one day, i can camp out in the snow somewhere and get a taste of what you just did in this video. One question, do you travel alone ? if so, you must spent a fair amount of time setting up the camera to get the external shots of the jeep travelling. Great work, keep it up ! and no music is best...
Hey Chris. Love your videos. I have one quick question for you. I'm in the process of deciding between a new JL Sahara or Rubicon. I was just wondering how often you engage your lockers in your travels. I had planned on getting the Select-Trac with Anti Slip differential with the Sahara nut the Rubi is always an option. Thanks!
I'm surprised you didn't hit glacier park!
Chris, you need to learn to "snow bird" like all the retirees. South for the winter, north for the summer.
some of these shots are insane!! great work. Did you drive all the way back up that mountain? lol
Walk by for sure
Nevada City MT, CA...
Nevada IA, OH, TX...
What’s odd about this Nevada place being everywhere but Nevada state...
Chris I’ve got to meet up with you someday, perhaps in Nevada 🤪
Ack! What is that green stuff you’re eating at 23:15! ;) Another great vid!
HI!
MAY I ASK WHICH REFRIGERATOR DO YOU HAVE & DO YOU LIKE IT ?
I now cant wait till every Friday night to watch your adventures and see the county. I am now looking into getting me a jeep too after seeing how versatile they can be. I don't know how to thank you. Where is your other site to communicate also with you
You could also get a Toyota 4Runner. May be cheaper and more reliable than the Jeep. I wanted to do similar like him but my suv would not ket me. Too many electronics on mine.

Well I have an 04 gx 470 I've had since new. Drove the new jeep jl and it is real nice what a change Flanders how far they have come.
@@montebeerbower7796 Wow. You have a 04 GX 470 since new? How many miles on it? Time for you to mod it and have fun with it.
I also have a non expedition car that I have owned since new and very happy and proud of it. 2008 Nissan Maxima. I have owned it since I bought it brand mew on July 4th, 2008. Owned it for more than 10 years now and the car has 240,000 miles and I plan to own it till death do us part. Either it dies or I die. I will never give that car to any kid or sell it. The car is not perfect right now, but i just took it on a 1,000 miles last weekend and it did great. This is the only car I have bought brand new and still own it and I decided like 3 years ago that this car has a special place in my heart and I will maintain it good to the best of my ability snd finances till it becomes too expensive to fix or it dies on me. But if I ever get to 300,000 miles on it, then I know I have truly had my money's worth.
Keep yours and now is the time to mod it and enjoy it.
121k miles on it. I am going to be selling it real soon. It needs shocks which is over 2600 just for the front and rear shocks then $450 to install them. Plus needs tires but all other maint has been done as required. only accident it ever had was very minor on front bumper where in snow and ice hit anther car and repair was going to be $750 at Lexus shop but we didn't fix it for it was not worth it to us. I am still not sure if im going with new JL or 19 Zr2 but may do both seeing I want to get new third vehicle to replace the GX
@@montebeerbower7796 GX 470 is gold. 121k miles is practically new for those engines. They are capable of many more miles. There's so many aftermarket parts to choose from and to make it overland worthy you don't need that much. Mild lift and better tires should cover your shocks and tire situation. I know there's people out there that would pay good money for them. The new JLs as nice as they look, they are their fist gen Jeeps. I would wait one or 2 generations more to allow Jeep to correct all the problems that the current model has.
Chris, do you drive back or walk back to retrieve your camera? Some scenes here looks like it's a long hike to retrieve it. How do you plan out where to place the cam? Love your photographic vision..
😎👍
Man. You need a good 8 inches of snow to start having fun.
Ive been to Sheridan,Wyoming but I didn't know there was a Sherian, Montana. Turns out the Sheridans of both States are named after Union General Phillip Sheridan.
The ARB awning looks pretty cool, Is it the 2500 or the 2000? Thanks.
As always great content mate 👍 out of interest how long does your Coleman propane bottle last
scott stevenson - 21 cheese sandwiches, five pizzas, three cans of soup, and two cans of sliced Spam. So about one week 😎🤪 (PS Chris is a strong believer in monologues, so he doesn’t reply to comments/questions - smart man!)
I'm curious, why you don't have a winch on your jeep, front or back.??
Walking by the camera is better though a mix of the 2 is perfect. Basically don’t change lol
Hey Chris just a comment.... you said “ I want both “. You also said how do you cultivate a relationship. Sounds like you need a camper.... just saying.
Agreed. Looks like it is time for a Tacoma/Four Wheel Camper combo.
Nice indiana jones reference there
That’s a hell of a burger
Walking by shows how big actually are :-)
Chris, I've been enjoying and impressed by your videos for quite a while now. I'm going to retire in the near future and would like to do some full time travelling/overlanding like you, but am struggling with my vehicle choice. The 3 used vehicles I'm trying to choose from are;
1- 2012+ JKU Rubicon with mileage of about 50-80k, JEEP - LIKES - good ones are easy to find, the J30 tent but not the price, locking frt & rear axles and design for pure off road however that also makes it less comfortable on long trips.
2&3 - 80 or 100 series Landcruiser with 120k-200k miles - LIKES - very nice to drive on long trips, super reliable. Dislikes - really hard to find one that has less than 120k miles.
All things being equal, do you think a Jeep with 80k miles is as reliable as a Landcruiser with 200K? ie. Do you think the Cost of ownership is similar, again if the vehicles are subjected to the same type of use?
Thanks in advance.
Jeep or Toyota Tacoma is the way to go. (Landcruiser suggests you're either old school or Aussie.)... *LOTS* of after market equipment is available, and these platforms are well built, built to last. It doesn't really matter what you drive, as long as it is configured for what sort of terrain and driving you do, and you take care of it.
I need to tow it behind a motorhome. I found a way to tow all 3 of the vehicles above, but can't tow a tacoma with out switching the rear axle to a full floater or a driveshaft disconnect which hangs down and becomes a rock hazard.
Well, we've all got our challenges and choices to make based on what we have to work with. No doubt you will make a good go of it. Do good research, talk to people, and do your best to figure it all out.
Good luck with retirement. I've got a handful of years to get my rig and gear sorted. Take good care.
Well, that is a wide range between those 2 vehicles.
You asking to buy a Jeep or a Landcruiser. Why don't you though in a 4Runner also? It falls in the middle of both. Price wise, reliability, parts everywhere, and you can find one with same features that are on the Landcruiser. Ans has less miles also. The way his Jeep here is setup, you can easily setup a 4Runner same way and get true reliability of a 4Runner which is better than the Jeep.
I would love a 4runner and have looked into a V8 4th Gen but it can't be pulled behind a motorhome. And I prefer a J30 pop up vs a regular pop up tent with an exterior ladder.
I like the style of your videos, but I think you could get by just fine with less walk-bys if you want. A little less work and it won't hurt the quality of the video. By the way, what map program are you using? Never mind, I got it at the end of your video. Thanks!
Awwww, what was down those stairs??! :( 24:23
I’m assuming this has been asked many times, but I suffer from laziness. What type of camera/lens do you use? I am in the market.
You get service out there to google??
Beautiful. Man you've got some balls. I'd definitely have pistol.
Stroker Ace - Yup. Trees are super scary
What size fridge is that?
Connie Waite - Big enough for cheese and Spam. YMMV
Have you seen a cj camper it's really cool
