I had a P0234 on my Mazda CX5 2.2, turned out a hose had popped off a very difficult to access turbo actuator at the rear. Aside from throwing the error code under heavy and prolonged acceleration, two symptoms were oil in the intercooler (likely from the first turbo working so hard and never swapping to second turbo), and the wastegate readings via OBD2 were unusual. Easy fix once found.

I had the same fault on my 2009 Suzuki GV with limp mode, etc. After paying a garage to clean the turbo I now try to keep the variable vanes moving by using Millers Diesel additive, by occasionally pumping in oven cleaner and more especially have blocked the tube that brings the carbon back from the engine. Result ? Many years of trouble free turbo.

Nice video, I did all that to the turbo on my TD6 Range Rover which is basically a BMW M57 and the vanes were seized solid and i was getting P0046 which I believe is caused by overboost. I put it back on and still get the same overboost condition up hill under heavy acceleration, I changed the MAP sensor as the old one showed no resistance compared to the new one and then i started getting a P2038 map sensor fault which says it is shorted to 12 Volts but i think it is actually reading too high pressure as it doesn't give a fault if i disconnect the vacuum pipe to the actuator putting the turbo into minimum boost and it doesn't give the over boost fault either with the vacuum pipe removed . i have already replaced the actuator solenoid and tested everything with a hand vacuum gauge and so I am only left with the length of the actuator arm as far as i can tell. The vacuum, drops to 5 inHg under heavy load and when I looked at the actuator with a vacuum of 5 inHg applied it had already moved a fair distance so my next move is to lengthen the actuator arm unless you have any other ideas? Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks for this video mate, I have a quick question on this. I have a 2015 Audi A6 that's just had a DPF clean the car has been put back together however with the newer Audi's removing the Turbo & DPF is a good 7 hour job due to the location. My car has now thrown a P0234 code however the problem points towards the electronic actuator that are apparently known to fail in these cars it looks like my actuator arm is moving freely under load causing an over boost and kicking the car into limp mode, my question is does the DPF/Turbo need to come out again in order to remove the actuator or can these components remain on to replace this device? Cheers

Couple of questions for anyone here:
    - has anyone used an electrolysis bath to clean parts like these? I’ve had great success using electrolysis with cast iron cookware and bike parts. Seems like it would be great for engine parts...?
    - do you apply any kind of lubricant to the internal parts after cleaning and before reassembling?
    Really fantastic video!
