To other people my age I recommend doing it if you are thinking about it. It takes a long time to learn it. Once you learn it Your gonna be unstoppable

I'm a plumber and an electrician. Started as a plumber but since today there is a lot of electronics and automation I went to school to also learn how to work as an electrician. It did very well for me because I can build intelligent central heating systems more advanced than every plumber and electrician for that matter i know. Having both trades made me the highest earner in the company ( 2nd to my boss of course) and i get to do only the more cool, interesting and complicated staff. My advice for someone who wants to get into the trade is this, yes you can earn amazing money but you also have to be amazing at it. That only comes with experience, constant learning, hard work and a good amount of intelligence. Most plumbers i know earn good money but not amazing. It's sometimes a fiscally hard job, sometimes work conditions are hard but you are going to have so much satisfaction, plumber ( trade people in general) are awesome to work with and there is never a boring day, you do everyday something different and you are going to work in different places, with different people for different people. As you can probably understand i love this job

I am 35; a service plumber, and have been doing it about 5 year's now. I have always been mechanically inclined and picked up quickly. Being a hard worker and putting in the time on your own time to work on being better in your trade helps immensely. I did small arms and artillery repair in the military, and worked with my hands most of my life leading up to it. I fell into plumbing; which most people do. I got into this trade late in life at 30, but as long as you're a hard worker and use common sense you can move ahead in a timely manner. One of the drawbacks at least in service is you're done with the job is done, so your schedule is unpredictable, so it's hard to make plans.

Christopher I completely agree. Here is a link to the UPC Study Guide amzn.to/2RgYEn5. I recommend to start studying as soon as you get into your apprenticeship. I have a video where I tell you how I use it to study. Thanks for commenting!

I started making 100 a day as an apprentice working very hard, getting dirty and sometimes feeling like I had to work harder than what I was getting paid for. Now I am happy I gave it my all with pride in my work and now I make VERY good money to not brag. Don't feel embarrassed, just work hard and keep your head up. When I see people dressed nice and clean and start feeling down I just remind myself that I made their monthly paycheck in a couple days if not in just 1. Highly recommend this to anyone who is going or about to finish highschool.

If you just accept that some days are going to be frustrating you will enjoy your days much better, i am 22 and i dropped out of highschool, im going to get my GED and then go be a plumbing apprentice and im excited to go places. My ultimate goal is to run a non profit that has people licensed in trades and EMT training to go out to places where natural disasters hit and my people can help fix houses and potentially save lives by using their medical training! Also my best friend is a journeyman Electrician who has wanted me to get on with him, all i tell him is you cant wash away a bad shock.

Iv just taken my first steps into the plumbing world, I'm a professional barber of over 16 years and I'm in my 30s and want to try something different and completely new to me, I started a few days ago under a master plumber and I love it and I'm also very sore lol. My first job as an apprentice was very satisfying, we climbed into the attic (loft) and looked at the water tank and seen it was on its way out, we noticed a small tear drop leak and a ton of rust, I learned how to drain it disconnected it and replace it all in one day, the owner of the house was so grateful we saved her and her family a disaster that was going to happen in the near future. Overall in my very short time doing this I'm loving it and I'm not going to lie my body isn't, it's physical work, specially at apprentice level it's demanding but if ur a hard worker and enjoy problem solving I really recommend it
Hope this will help someone who is thinking about taking on the trade and if ur mature like myself you can still do it age is but a number

I'm a 19-year-old high school graduate, and have been more interested in finding a trade than going to college, and my main focus lately has been plumbing. There's a problem for me though, and it's math. I have always struggled with math and understand that math will be needed when it comes to plumbing. This has been a big concern for me but I'm interested in learning how to do this.

+Myers31 math in general can get tough. There are great calculators made just for plumbing/piping that are a must have. In plumbing it is pretty simple math. Don’t let that stop you. I chose plumbing over college and I have no regrets. Are you wanting residential or commercial, new construction or service?

I've done irrigation and house repairs (self taught) and been thinking of doing plumbing as a profession as a apprentice. I love manual labor, love making money. But I'm a bit nervous going into it. Only real way of me getting hired or trained is by union here in florida...nobody will hire me as a apprentice (maybe roto rooter?) With no "real" experience. Sll my experience is all under the table so I have no proof of skills. So I'm wondering what my next course of action should be. I'd like to be a master plumber but dont wanna do a trade school. Thinking I should do the union way if possible. Once I'm liscenced I could probably go with other companies. Idk though. Big step.

I have a top 40 list to why not become a plumber. I think in Texas you need to be licensed just to work under somebody. Something like that kept me from taking a job there years ago. But In my state you only need it to contract Or run a business. I’ve been a licensed p1 for a while now. I think in Texas they will honor an out of state license if you carried a minimum of 2 years. Idk.
But If my kids ever said that they want to be plumber like me I’d whip that ass. And make them a human back hoe during the summer ! it’s an underrated thankless skill ! But you can make a living.
Anybody that says they don’t feel like they’re working are probably not exposed to many different situations or get around much. most of it’s hard work. Most people will fix their easy stuff before they pay someone $100 bucks to crank a truck up.
And we don’t stop because it’s 100 degrees outside or 20 degrees and you can’t feel your toes.
And if want to run a business because you think that it’s easy. Then be ready to not get any rest at quitting time . Be ready to pay for people that steal and break your stuff. And also be ready to never get any work at all at times. It’s Feast or famine in today’s economy. So be careful who you listen to. It’s a long way to the top of you want to rock and roll.

As a plumber, there's a great chance I could get sent to an area I don't to be like near my old house for an example. I had a very unhappy childhood living in that house which is why I stay away from that area. I currently live in Austin but if I really wanted to be a plumber then I would probably have to move to a different city so I could do that career without having to deal with getting sent to that specific area where I used to live. I heard this company is only in Dallas. I would rather live in San Antonio for a plumber job. I will have to admit that this job allows you to live in other cities and states besides Austin. Being a plumber is better than Hvac or electrician is because as an electrician, you can get electrocuted with a very small mistake while getting splashed with sewer water is a lot safer than working around electricity.

I know you have to start somewhere. I just don't want to be snaking drains for the rest of my career, I want more complicated tasks. Also getting paid on commission is that normal?

I did the whole school thing have 3 college degrees, AS, BA and Masters in Business but it's extremely competitive to find good work and when I'm unemployed it takes months to find something. Getting tired of it and want consistency in my career and good pay. I'm 34 and can get in with my local union here in southern California. I'll be 35 by next summer when I get in. Been working on cars for over 13 years so I'm mechanically inclined and overall very handy with tools, soldering, some light welding. My question is this, am I too old to begin at my age. I'm hearing a lot of ppl in their 30s to even 40s are having a change of career in the trades. Thanks in advance. I enjoy your videos.

I've worked in Logistics for the last 5 years. Mainly handle organizational stuff, but have started to really feel a sense of burnout and lack of pride in my work. I don't have any knowledge of tools, but I also am not afraid to get dirty (spend a lot of time crawling through/under dusty old racks to retrieve missing product for inventory counts). Would this be a good fit? I'm also 28, if that matters.

@@Antda1. I'm in my 5th year plumbing. I am a commission based plumber. My first year commission which was last year, I brought in $70,000. This year I'm on track to almost double that.
Commission can suck sometimes due to work being slow, but it never stays slow for long. I guess you can say it took me 4 years
