    I worked for a company that made TP. We called the cheap single ply TP John Wayne TP, because it wouldn't take cr@p off of anybody.

      @Transvaners Před 3 lety +2

      YES! 😂
      This was one of my dad's favorite "dad jokes" he told us as kids in the 80s. It was a tad longer, and the setup was someone shopping for TP at their local store (K-mart, Walmart, Target, etc), and there were too many TP options. Something like that.
      Anyway, I wish I could remember the whole thing. I'll ask my dad today, who's over 70 now. I bet he'll get a kick out of me asking!

      It's also one of the biggest marketing mindfucks. Sure it's cheaper, but you have to use twice as much, so no savings at all. That and it's more likely to tear when using it, and nobody wants that shit...

      Scotts isn't cheap toilet tissue. Yes, it is 1 ply and you may need more. However, the Angel Soft is 2 ply. So 6 sheets is like 12. If you double up on Scotts you'd still be using the same amount as the AS. Like Eric said, it is about personal preference. I grew up on Scotts and prefer it. I get a Walmart brand that is generic Scotts for 1/2 the price and like it better, but when that is out, Scotts is the next choice. I can't stand Angel Soft and thick TP.

      @@IssuesWithMyTissues - Yeah, I'm surprised that so many, including Eric, failed to notice that the first Scott's TP was single ply. I prefer Scotts single ply, as it doesn't flake apart when wiping the behind like the angel soft usually does. Wiping with single ply (even if you really bundle it up while wiping) will leave less TP residue on your behind than softer tissues.

    We don't have an RV but we have a 60 year old home and we switched to Cascades Pro toilet paper that we buy online in 40 something rolls quantities. It dissolves beautifully and we've never had to have a company come snake out our line in the 3 years since we switched. It's not as soft as some, but it's not uncomfortable and it's just another thing we don't have to worry about in homeownership.

  • @leisuretravelinlockes8037

    We use Costco banded toilet paper in our RV. I added a additional sewer gate valve on the very end prior to attaching the hose. I dump the black tank. Then I close that valve in front of the hose and open the gray water tank and black tanks together. Water flows from the gray tank into the back tank until equalized. Then I close the gray tank and open the additional valve. This allows some gray water in the black tank to rinse out the black tank. Then drain the remaining gray water out.

    2 ply means 2 squares together to make one square. It is literally twice the TP compared to a single ply. So your Angel soft sample actually had 12 squares worth of paper in it. Hence the larger wad and greater weight!
    We like regular ol Charmin TP. We used Angel soft at home for 20 years or more, but made the switch to Charmin after using some at a relatives house. Then add water to the bowl before a #2, flush afterwards, add more water to the bowl, wipe, then flush again. When we empty the black tank, it flows fast due to the water to solid ratio. This is also not a septic tank. Solids won’t have time to break down. No anaerobic action going on. Extra liquids are needed to move the chunks!

    There is also a "back" flush adspter that you attach to tge drain outlet on an rv. You atrach a hose, turn on the water and tgat eill push the blockage back into the tank...hopefully clearing the clog and allowing proper drainage. The chemicals added do help to disolve everything in the tank. Most are not safe for septic systems.....I discovered Happy Camper and it really dissipates odor from the black tank!

    I start the tank with a couple of gallons of water before using the loo. We always use the deodorizer/digester drop ins, and it drains fine. We're using Thetford branded TP right now, because it was a courtesy purchase last time we dumped at Cabela's, and we haven't used it up yet.

    I have a septic tank at my house and I have been guilty of peeing outside (I live in a secluded area) to save on well water. Now I know I shouldn't do that. BTW Charmin Extra Soft has been my brand for years.

    • @JonnyDIY

      You needn't worry about that, flushing toilet is a lot of water plus sink water and even laundry water. Plenty of water to solids ratio 🤙🏼

    Erik where the water builds up put a 5 gal bucket in the ground with holes in top. With gravel stone on top. Then take a PVC pipe off the side just below ground at top of bucket an devert down side of house. As bucket fills the water will push out.

    That was very good information, no need to over-spend on special RV TP! Also, the regular Scotts used to be better quality, and larger sheets. The quality stinks now (no pun intended lol) It used to be a real good value, but you have to use so much more now.

    to truly test how they drain out, drill a hole in the bottom of those plastic containers.....pouring out over the top doesn't give a realistic draining.

    Very biased with the fork test lol. The angel soft you only picked at with the tip of the fork which made it tear more easily instead of scooping it up with the entire fork the way you did with the scotts dissolve :P

    I heard of another black tank maintenance tip but want to know if this works or is it nonsense: pouring ice down the toilet just before doing a long trip. The idea I heard about is the ice bangs around and help clean the tank from solids sticking in there.

    Eric, try Charmin Soft (blue). I collect most dish water in a plastic tub that fits in my sink and I dump it down the toilet, at least the part that does not have debris in it. A black tank will not clog that is full of water or has a lot of water in it. So Eric, you are totally right. Don

  • @ivan1wolf
    @ivan1wolf Před 3 lety

    I had a few clogs early but none now. Water and #1 are you friend and solve the clog issues if you have one. I use the Costco Kirkland brand and have had great success with that one. If I plan to stay for say a month at at time I even fill the black tank with 3-5 min of water since I know I won’t be moving to help the break up, that way it empties better.

    The basic Wal-Mart brand is a hold over when many stores were marketing to customers that wanted generic paper products.
    .64 cents for soft rolls is a good value.
