    I have so much respect for these women as black women and as artists. Also this is my first time hearing about Amadou Diallo. So heartbreaking. The only thing that gives me comfort is that our oppression is the reason we are as beautiful as you depicted Queen & Slim. We turn everything we touch to gold because of who we are. I love being black. Thank you Lena and Melina!

    I just saw it for the first time last night and it's crazy because I went with a girlfriend who is not black.
    The whole time Im sitting there watching the movie I can just feel every bit and as I looked over to her I could tell it was not having so much of an effect. I can feel the love from her and she is my down ass home girl. But love and respect is all that I can see coming from her as I watched this movie.
    I on the other hand I cried and I laughed hard, I feel every bit of it. I can see myself through every actor's eyes and I felt like I was there.
    Thank you guys for such a wonderful experience, a beautiful rollercoaster of love and strength...

Inspiring to see how seeing your vision come to life by choosing the right person to trust with your vision. "It's a Black in American story", police brutality is killing us literally every day and the Black officers kill us too. "It doesn't matter where you're from or what you look like Black is Black in America they can't see your accent" - Melina Matsoukas. Also,I didnt hear the director mention Spike in her top 5 but I see a tad bit of Spike in her directing style. This story is beautiful. We dont always need a feel good super hero story. That's what Sunday church is for. I enjoyed the truth and pain in these characters story. Including Uncle Earl and his "lady". I left the theater wanting to know them all better.

    Please, people need to be honest. A lot of Caribbean and African immigrants do like to "other" themselves when it comes to black Americans. Black immigrants are conveniently black when it suits them but distance themselves when it doesn't. Many immigrants claim their native Country when the accolades are being handed out. I am of Caribbean decent and I know what is said behind closed doors...BE HONEST!!!

    • @whitneygurley4505
      @whitneygurley4505 Před 4 lety +2

      im a so-called black american and have always been embraces by africans, european, black and caribbeans when abroad as well as in the states. africans and caribbeans prefer their upbringing because they arent forced to be socially submissive to the white power structure on in their daily life. their media reflects them and they dont carry much of the stigma we, as black americans naturally have, being raises in a white dominant society.
      also most africans know our history mich better than we and will tell you we “arent african” meaning when we were in african, we weren’t part of their tribes. we were in wondering and squatting tribes, they sold us, not themselves lol. blackness isnt genetically homogeneous.
      besides, no one can look down on you when you’re standing in your truth. if

      They are always "Black." You can't get more Black than Africa, but they want to only hold on to their "dash" Americaness that wouldn't be possible without Black Americans. The difference is, they leave their native countries to come to ours, rarely the other way around.

    She hit a nerve with me when she said that after you make your movie how white people will want you to cut out parts or soften parts. The movie I wrote you can't cut out the way I tell this story. It's very raw and touch on things that we all know is true but try to ignore. There was a story here in Detroit where a black guy actually hit the car of a white kid and the black guy got out of his car and beat the kid to death. White America was screaming why but then they was like well it's just black people being black. No, there is a reason and it's a reason nobody wants to address but if I get my movie made you will look through the eyes of one of these black kids. After watching the movie you will be hype but then you be like....yeal, this has got to stop. I call us the Land of Misfit Toys and I want to unlock the unholy truth about the time bomb that's ticking in our inner cities. Once white America see what coming at them then changes will be made....... GRIM czcams.com/video/dnV-O6gC3jY/video.html
