  • Today, three of our longest-serving team members are heading off into retirement - PC Rachel Swift and her two police dogs, Carrie and Sandi.
They are a trio with a very special bond, having spent years in each other's company as part of the Derbyshire Constabulary dog section.
From sniffing out stashes of drugs, cash and firearms, to tracking suspects across fields and through dense woodland, together they have done it all as part of their efforts to keep the people of Derbyshire safe.
The bond between the four-legged police dogs and their two-legged handlers is forged over the weeks, months and years that they spend in each other's company.
This video is the first in our latest series, chronicling the unique life on our dog section - and gives us a chance to say thank you to Rachel, Carrie and Sandi for their dedicated service.
In this episode, we follow the three of them on some of their final shifts before they hang up the lead for good. We see them hunt for suspected caravan thieves, join firearms and roads policing in another search on Derbyshire's northern border, and patrol their half of the county in the dead of night.
Rachel has spent 18 of her 30 years in policing as a dog handler, and talks in this episode about why she wanted to join, the dogs she's had along the way, and her feelings ahead of retirement.
With this series, we want to show the public what it takes to work on dog section - the highs, the lows, the successes, the frustrations, and all the war stories that come with being a dog handler.
Life on the unit is truly like no other, and with The Dog Section, we hope to give you a glimpse of what that life entails.
And we also want you to have your say on what the series will eventually be called. We've shortlisted two equally dubious titles - Paw and Order, or Ruff Justice.
All you have to do is vote on the poll during the video, and tell us which of those titles you prefer...
