As a 27yr old who regularly plays roblox with my late-20s friends, there’s already so much creepiness on roblox. I’ve seen so many roblox-couples. I’ve heard a grown man and literal child talking (in voice chat, which requires ID but plenty of 8yr olds have) and saying they were best friends until I was like “oh are you her dad?” And he muted himself. I’ve seen people asking for Snapchat info from people who I’m guessing are children based on how they talk. Adding a dating functionality to roblox just sounds like a breeding ground for people who “just want cupcakes”

Its not a children's game bruh, guess what age the games are made by, 16+ commonly, guess what audience the games with blood and guns target?, 16+, If there were no other ages other than 11 year olds there would be no good games, only roblox made ones, same for the UTC products and other user made stuff, and roblox would recieve very little money since its games and items are terrible and its decisions even stupider, the games that make the most money like adopt me, were made by no other than teens with the idea to profit off kids, it having had income of over 50,000 dollars worth a month of robux, which they converted back, becomming some sort of actual company, not to forget they only get 70%, roblox gets the most of it from robux sells to buy gamepasses in the first place, and then even 30% from every gamepass. And how would you explain the voicechat, and videochat, not only that, but when i needed to verify for 17+, it required a ID and then a selfie, How will you get your dad or mom to make a selfie bruh if they knew its to get past age restrictions, which is written all over the camera "make selfie to verify!"
if i'm being extremely generous, perhaps the reason roblox went through with this dating idea is so they could catch the predators red-handed... But it's more than likely that it isn't the case.

Roblox's goal is to probably have the whole human life cycle on the platform, so kids start playing on roblox then once they're 17 they get relationships with other roblox users and end up married and they have kids then their kids play roblox. It's the master plan.

I had a teacher who met her husband through playing WoW together and they were such a cute couple. It's unfortunate that the idea of meeting someone in a game and later forming a relationship is considered weird. They are literally playing the same game as you so right off the bat you have something in common. It's always romantic relationships that are the ones considered weird as well. I met one of my best friends through GTA V and I ended up going to his wedding as one of his groomsman years later and no one questioned it. His whole family was so excited to finally meet me, I was known as the "guy from the game" and they all treated me as family. 😂

The amount of alarm bells going off in my head is crazy. This is a horrific move for a platform that is pretty well-known to protect predators despite pretty damning evidence, and I'm actually really worried about this making the issue of grooming nearly unmanageable. While I hope they reverse course, part of me knows they won't, and that scares me a lot.
I am 30 years old and I play Roblox, while I've met a few adults there (one being one of my best friends to this day), I can confirm that 90% of the player base are kids. And I agree with you, acting sexual on any game should be frowned upon, take it to a private discord conversation. I feel like they're desperately trying to appeal to an adult audience because Roblox games are very predatory, they constantly shove on your face that you need to spend money to get this cool advantage so you can level up more quickly, also a lot of gachas too. So I think they're trying to move away from being a children's game so they can get more adults willing to spend money on their game.

Making it 17+ instead of 18+ makes it way easier for Roblox to deal with the law. Instead of it being strictly an adult space which have legal precedents it is just a space tailored to older teens. Roblox now will not be held at the standard of exposing children to adult content and having the authorities involved. Instead they now can just say that "there are just some creepy people in the space and we are doing our best to get rid of them." Very sinister for them to do this.

Roblox developers have been asking to be allowed to develop more mature content for several years now. Mostly due to the grey areas in the roblox ToS that prevents you from developing certain games. I could care less for the game, but if they have protections in place, like having to verify your age, how is grooming going to happen? You guys are making it seem like literal babies are gonna be on this dating app when it isn't, and the 17 also isn't illegal anyways. 16 is the age of consent in a lot of states in the US and other countries.

Roblox tried to appeal to older audiences with more mature games (more intense gore, 17+ social hangouts and bar games for whatever reason), but they went too far too fast. Part of me understands the want for an adult section in a game so popular it obviously isn’t only played by children, but it is so strange to make it specifically for dating. It’s not like setting up serious relationships is something video games are known for, especially something like Roblox. Literally the only reason I can think of to do this is to have plausible deniability in allowing children to be in the “romance room” under the guise of “oh well they must have snuck in, no children are SUPPOSED to be here!” It boggles the mind.

I will say this. I’m 20, I grew up playing the game and played it all the time since I was poor. I ended up staying on it because of some of the games on it are actually good and it’s one of the few games on there that I can play with my friends on. I say that it’s nice being able to play a game that’s supposed to be for only adults on that platform even though, like Charlie said, stupid ass kids grabbed their parent’s ID and they managed to get in sometimes anyway. They SHOULD make it 18+ (and most people I’ve met who use it are) but I genuinely think that roblox adding a dating area or online dating then it would be a total failure and the worst thing possible since kids will absolutely try to date someone online and end up meeting a creep online anyway. I don’t ever think it’ll be a good idea for roblox to do it. But the weirdest thing to me (so far) is that they don’t like people who have verified their age to curse through the microphone and will even ban people for it.

As a parent my concern now is that this will attract many more “unscrupulous” people to Roblox. This will inevitably lead to a higher rate of incidents regardless of the protections put in place specifically for the “adult” section. If these creepy people don’t get what they’re looking for in the “adult” rooms some will inevitably migrate to the children’s section. This is extremely irresponsible from a company that is already under fire for their attitude towards child safety. I don’t see this lasting long before some kind of protest or law comes in to shut it down. At least that’s my hope.

As someone who has played Roblox for more then a decade, I was cool with 17+ games. This could allow for more horror games to be made for example. But online dating something that Roblox has had a problem with for a long time coming in a way that kids can easily get their hands on is really bad. Like tons of kids play games like Mortal Kombat or Dead Space and even if they probably shouldn't it's better then being able to go on a dating app.

Grooming is all over roblox, as someone who has played since 2010, i've seen it all. With the introduction of voice chat, it got worse. You can go into any voice-enabled game, primarily the ones focused on socializing with eachother and find a groomer--- or someone using racial slurs/berating a young child/teen in minutes because it's "funny".

There was a time where online dating was banned on ROBLOX, and above that, the community itself made often ineffectual efforts to thwart online dating and potential predation upon children. When I was a kid, I was there at ground zero, observing and sometimes disrupting hookups. Where have the years gone?
As somebody who is not over 17 I can confirm it is genuinely easy to get verified for 17+ and most of the time you do encounter people who aren't over 17+. So basically predators are going to have a field day.
It would be great if some minors were smart enough not to get involved in that stuff, but we know damn well that wouldn't happen. I had a teacher who met her husband through playing WoW together and they were such a cute couple. It's unfortunate that the idea of meeting someone in a game and later forming a relationship is considered weird. The amount of alarm bells going off in my head is crazy. This is a horrific move for a platform that is pretty well-known to protect predators despite pretty damning evidence, and I'm actually really worried about this making the issue of grooming nearly unmanageable. I am 30 years old and I play Roblox, while I've met a few adults there (one being one of my best friends to this day), I can confirm that 90% of the player base are kids. And I agree with you, acting sexual on any game should be frowned upon, take it to a private discord conversation. I feel like they're desperately trying to appeal to an adult audience because Roblox games are very predatory, they constantly shove on your face that you need to spend money to get this cool advantage so you can level up more quickly, also a lot of gachas too. Roblox tried to appeal to older audiences with more mature games (more intense gore, 17+ social hangouts and bar games for whatever reason), but they went too far too fast. Even if they wanted to appeal to adults, dating is a horrible way to start on a platform with the majority of players being kids.
Edit: Just kinda wanted to add on to what I said earlier. Adding dating is the probably the worst decision Roblox has ever made, especially since Roblox is pretty well known for having a ton of predators on the site. It shouldn't even have been thought of, nor should it be added.

Part of me understands the want for an adult section in a game so popular it obviously isn’t only played by children, but it is so strange to make it specifically for dating. It’s not like setting up serious relationships is something video games are known for, especially something like Roblox. Literally the only reason I can think of to do this is to have plausible deniability in allowing children to be in the “romance room” under the guise of “oh well they must have snuck in, no children are SUPPOSED to be here!” It boggles the mind.

I will say this.
I’m 20, I grew up playing the game and played it all the time since I was poor. I ended up staying on it because of some of the games on it are actually good and it’s one of the few games on there that I can play with my friends on. I say that it’s nice being able to play a game that’s supposed to be for only adults on that platform even though, like Charlie said, stupid ass kids grabbed their parent’s ID and they managed to get in sometimes anyway. They SHOULD make it 18+ (and most people I’ve met who use it are) but I genuinely think that roblox adding a dating area or online dating then it would be a total failure and the worst thing possible since kids will absolutely try to date someone online and end up meeting a creep online anyway. I don’t ever think it’ll be a good idea for roblox to do it.
But the weirdest thing to me (so far) is that they don’t like people who have verified their age to curse through the microphone and will even ban people for it.

As a parent my concern now is that this will attract many more “unscrupulous” people to Roblox. This will inevitably lead to a higher rate of incidents regardless of the protections put in place specifically for the “adult” section. If these creepy people don’t get what they’re looking for in the “adult” rooms some will inevitably migrate to the children’s section.
This is extremely irresponsible from a company that is already under fire for their attitude towards child safety. I don’t see this lasting long before some kind of protest or law comes in to shut it down. At least that’s my hope.
I am very concerned about who is in charge of Roblox, they are not only actively protecting predators but now are making a space for them. And the sliminess of the legality loopholes they are placing so they don't get sued is just evil.
My little sister (preteen) is constantly pursued by creepy men on Roblox. Adding an overt sexual component to a game rife with pedos just seems like a really, really stupid idea.

As an actual grooming victim, this genuinely makes me feel sick to see that even more children will fall victim to this sort of stuff, and I guarantee you almost NOTHING will be done to protect children in any way from this. All it takes is for the kid to get ahold of an ID that doesn't even need to be their own and then the only possible security measure is compromised and the kid can now be exposed to online predators.

They'd just be doing what I did 8 years ago. I'm sure people have been dating on there already, so there's really no need to add that feature. As someone who has played Roblox for more then a decade, I was cool with 17+ games. This could allow for more horror games to be made for example. But online dating something that Roblox has had a problem with for a long time coming in a way that kids can easily get their hands on is really bad. Like tons of kids play games like Mortal Kombat or Dead Space and even if they probably shouldn't it's better then being able to go on a dating app.

Grooming is all over roblox, as someone who has played since 2010, i've seen it all. With the introduction of voice chat, it got worse. You can go into any voice-enabled game, primarily the ones focused on socializing with eachother and find a groomer--- or someone using racial slurs/berating a young child/teen in minutes because it's "funny".

There was a time where online dating was banned on ROBLOX, and above that, the community itself made often ineffectual efforts to thwart online dating and potential predation upon children. When I was a kid, I was there at ground zero, observing and sometimes disrupting hookups.
