  • In this video I show the 1/4 valve guide tools need to insert a bushing or guide .....And as a bonus I reveal a old trick that I have used for years for honing cool bore engines......even though Iam not actually honing anything rather buffing down high spots with this crude method .

Great video. I really liked how clearly you explained everything. You spoke at a speed and in a manner that made it easy for me to follow and learn. This video was extremely helpful in that you named all the part numbers. I cannot find that kit anywhere but the parts are all still individually available. The only part that I cannot find is the finish reamer 19066. It looks like a milling bit to me. Do you know what I could use instead of this finish reamer? Could I use the same size milling bit from a different company? What would happen if I didn't use the finish reamer? Thank you for making this video. I watched every video I could find about this subject and there were a lot of good videos. This video was the best and most informative one. It should definitely get more than 87 views. This video is extremely helpful to any small engine mechanic that wants to work on older engines. I really hope you recover Kevin, take care.

Thank you......and yes you can use a alternative reamer......you will need one as the inserts or valve guides actually will become slightly distorted and tight.......rightfully so as actually that's what's required to insure they stay seated as intended.

@@kevinbolin7665 Ah so the act of driving it in will distort it a little. I definitely wouldn't want to skip that step. In one of the videos I watched the guy didn't use either reamer. He had the same kit as you but never opened the reamers. I think it was because he had to wind up making his own brass guide and that guide he made went in really easy. It's possible it might come loose. It sounds like driving them in tight and performing a finish ream would be the best way to go and the way I want to do it. Can you please tell me the size of that reamer so I can look for another similar one? Will any 1/4 inch reamer work?

Another question that I have is about the plug gauge 19122 that comes with that kit. I noticed that you did not mention it and I could not find anyone else using it either. How is that gauge used and is it needed? It's difficult to find information on that gauge. It is rather expensive and I'de rather not buy it if I don't need to. Thanks for the help, I hope your arm is getting stronger.

After doing some research about plug gauges I learned that they are used to measure the diameter of the valve guide. Sometimes 2 plug gauges are used a small and a large diameter. If the small doesn't fit that means it needs reamed, if the large fits that means it needs a new bushing. In this case since there is only 1 plug gauge I am assuming it is used to determine whether the bushing or the valve stem is responsible for the excessive valve stem clearance. Please if anyone out there can correct me if I am wrong. If this is the case then it is not needed and other things could be used. However I ordered one anyway, I like having old tools. It's just neat.

Hey Kevin I have a 5.5 hp Tecumseh engine that I did a leak down on and it is leaking on the intake valve alot I am assuming before I take the head off and the valve out that there is alot of wear in the valve giude.I did look for the kit(19269) you mention all over the internet and everybody says it is no longer availible. What would I do in case of this.
