Reading some of the comments, a word of advice. Don't hurry after breaking fast with dates and water to pray Maghrib. Eat a bit more. Don't stuff yourselves but give sustenance to your body, enough that you can concentrate on your prayer and your body isn't deprived. Iftar is a gift after the fast. However, everyone's reasons are different for doing what you do. Have a wonderful Ramadan and a wonderful Eid!

Yes this is right.
I always found it awkward going to people's houses to do iftar. Most people scoff all the food down before they do Maghrib, where as I prefer to break fast, pray and then eat... Don't get me wrong, I'm hungry too, but eating that much food that fast will give you indigestion.

Yes I know what you mean. Not to mention it's probably is healthier eating lightly after having fasted for so many hours.
By analogy, when a starving person is rescued is his food not restricted and he's given some nutrient solution instead?
The sunnah is to eat before praying.
The sunnah (in general) is to eat enough to keep your back straight, but if you must eat 1/3 solids, 1/3 liquids, 1/3 air.
BaarakAllaahu feek, its better to eat a bit and drink, pray, then maybe go and eat more, remembering not to eat a full and if need be then keep it to 1/3 food, 1/3water 1/3empty. Otherwise we end up getting full, missing salah in congregation or even the entire Salah’s time, and Allaah’s protection is sought.

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ.
'Dhahaba al-zama’ wa abtalat al-‘urooq wa thabata al-ajr in sha Allaah' (Thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and
the reward is certain if Allaah wills).”

@@abschy648 As Muslims, it is best and it is a part of our religion to follow the Sunnah unless there is a valid excuse which prevents you from being able to follow something. With that being said, nothing wrong with saying astaghfirullah. We shouldn't be eating/drinking with the left hand because our prophet showed us the correct way to eat and drink.
@@ahmadtahmass8941 the meaning of astaghfirullah is "I seek forgiveness in Allah" so where there is no sin how can you ask for forgiveness, there is only absence of reward......but yes we should try to follow the sunnah as close as possible
