+My Smash Corner All mii fighters or do you mean brawler? Besides, that up B from brawler pretty much made the difference between top tier and bottom tier for the character. I don't hate it, but probably because I know mii fighters well and already knew that part of how to DI against it. If you're talking swordfighter, you'd have to be more specific, because he has a lot of versatility, though upb 1 and 3 are the only ones that can kill of which 3 is the most reliable. If you're talking gunner, then I'd be surprised, as gunner doesn't have spectacular upb's. There is one with a spike, but it's not that good..
You get use to it after a while, like how getting away from the multi-hit attack became second nature to avoid for me by moving the control stick rapidly lol
+ToluDude Truthfully, the best way is to keep a notebook or something on your phone with specific match up notes, then review those notes quickly before a match. Ex. Vs. Rob DI up throw away Vs. Charizard DI up throw down and away
The amount of content on here these days is great. There is so much learning that can happen which allows for competition all around to get better. Nice video!
The ROB reversal is most likely because the farthest side multihits have stronger inward pull, so holding left will first move you outwards towards the leftmost hit which has more significant inward and thus rightward pull. Just a theory though. -CoZmos
Ultimately, I do wish moves like Sonic's UpAir, Meta Knight's UpB, Mario's UpB, and perhaps even some scary down smashes would be covered, but this video satisfies me. I know that most people would say "Just apply this knowledge to other moves that are similar", and that is true, you could probably do that, but in the end, there are still some special exceptions. That said, Beefy Smash Doods, you guys do god's work, along with My Smash Corner. Thank you for everything.
+Thunder Hunter It does if you combo them up to the top. Watch ANTi vs ZeRo at Big House 5. It's been done many times in tournament besides that too, that's just the most notable one recently
Thank for this. I survived most powerful attacks and throws. This really helped me. :) I knew about DI already but I needed to know about the "End posistion".
Dang, I've been SDIing ROB, Zero Suit, and Mii Brawler's devastating moves before DIing, but it seems like it was unnecessary. Thank you so much for this video!
+SS•TecaLuca because the tip of a pair of arms are stronger than a super powered boy whose mother died channeling all that hatred and power into a super concentrated blast of energy that is so strong it takes a full second a start up
I appreciate you showing high rage and full charged attacks on a high percent Captain Dummy. That keeps everything more realistic. Really helpful video.
tl;dr #1 for back throws: towards the stage if at edge diagonal and away from the stage if going to the other coast #2 for up throws: *mewtwo* - left or right works *rob* - always di away, aka di towards which ever way he's facing *charizard* - diagonal down and away #3 for up-airs: for most di left or right *fox* - di the direction they're facing *shiek* - same as fox *rosa luma* - same as shiek *rob* - hold right then smash diagonal down and left, or vica versa #4 up-smashes: for most di away *lugi* - di down and towards him *diddy* - di away if to the right of him, di left if you're on his back side #5 up-specials: *zero suit samus* - diagonal down and towards, directly down if sent to other coast, diagonal down and away if you're far away from side blast zone *mii brawler* - di towards him
+Beefy Smash Doods how come like just using zss as an example if you are worried about dying off the top you DI down.... yet however for moves like up smashes that send you towards the ceiling it's left or right. Seems odd it works better to DI down for some moves to not die off the top and then others DIing down doesn't help at all.
+UraniulVl I'm afraid You did not fully understand how DI works. It is handled like vectors and their respective angles to each other. You do not change the amount of knockback but the angle it sends You. This is a mix of the moves knockback angle and your DIs angle. If You are still not sure how exactly it does work, please watch the video of MSC we linked at the beginning. -Slice
Hey guys. Do you think you can make a video about tether recoveries? Maybe you can bring that up in a video about recovery options. I found out that tethers don't grab the ledge if you don't burn your second jump, so getting it out there would do us players some good.
I always thought the best DI/vectoring direction from attacks that send you up was to point down, since if you get launched sideways, you input the other direction. So I always thought that applied to being launched up. Also, what about meteors? Is there a direction you should hold to survive it longer?
Aha! I've been wondering the best way to DI a lot of these! So the general rule of thumb is to DI to the side if a move launches you straight up, DI toward the stage if it hits you toward a side blast zone, and DI down and away if the angle is more diagonal? Then you have the exceptions for R.O.B.'s uair and Luigi's usmash, because they're weird like that...
Something has been bothering me for a while: Vectoring is only in effect for horizontal knockback, whereas traditional DI works for vertical knockback. However, in one of the ZSS examples, you DI'd straight down, which should be equivalent to no-DI at all. It would make sense that this is optimal, because you don't die earlier to the top blastzone but also don't die to the right. Additionally, moving the stick diagonally down in some of the other cases, should be equivalent to only moving the stick slightly to the left or the right, instead of going all the way. Of course it is more practical like this, but in theory it shouldn't make a difference.
Imagine if Smash 4 had Melee SDI and Directional Influence values... How much it would actually change, because multi-hit moves are really hard to escape since most of the SDI multipliers doesn't even pass the 0.5x mark. You get hit with a multi-hit move in Smash 4 and it can be the end of your stock.
And i found something out about DeDeDe's UpAir. You have to Press the Controlstick diagnoly down and towards him, to survive the longest. I'm also trying out other moves from DeDeDe, like his UpSmash or his BThrow to make a complete list of "how to DI DeDeDe", because he's so rarely seen.
+Alive Omlett UpSmash: Press the Controlstick away from him (both sides) BThrow: Diagnoly down and towards him (Diractly down if you are far away from the blastzone and don't want to die of the Top)
How about Diing combos or juggles ? Zero Suit samus's down throw into boost kick and Metaknight's dash attack into upair strings can be quite a nightmare.
is there any reason NOT to ALWAYS hold the stick diagonally? Like for the backthrows, would it matter if I held the stick diagonally even if I was back throwed from the very edge of the stage?
+P-Town Hero to be exact, that would be vectoring.. but vertical vectoring got removed at the first or second patch... i would recommend watching the "my smash corner" vid, i think he explains it better :)
Do you guys plan on covering Combo DI? Sometimes I'm not sure if it would be optimal to hold directly away from an attack or down AND away when getting juggled.
No I prevent using up throw so I don't stail it, it's a vital kill throw. Plus I'm good at baiting airdoges but not punishing them. Just need more practice
I like how Lucas wasn't brought up. He has probably the best launch up b in the game along with its wide range he can take out several fight in one go.
That's a lot of information to remember but if I stick to practicing against characters that get used the most, I might be fine. (Sheik, Rosalina, Fox, etc. )
Yesterday I played Smash Wii U for the first time in 3 months and I noticed that Kirby's B-Throw was significantly more potent as a KO-move. But I guess still not good enough to make the Top 3.
+Kristian Morgan Only works if she moves forward while doing it. The same applies on the other side.. if you DI away and she moves backwards, you can get out. But if she has the same movement as your DI, you can't rly get out consistently. So it's a bit of a gamble or mindgame... and thats why we didnt want to put it in the video! -cFive
So which way you choose to go as ZSS is kind of like a mind game in its own. Interesting as I used to never be able to get the final hit on players with good DI. I'll have to look into this!
Could you make a Video about the double PK Thunder? (I hope you know what I mean) It works with Ness and Lucas, atleast on the 3DS, I didnt try it on the Wii U
On cases like 4:45, why wouldn't you DI diagonal down when they smash you up? Don't you want to stop up AND side momentum? I don't see why you wouldn't want both vectors helping you.
Is there any chance that I could get a download link to the song that you used in the background? Or one to the person who made it? It sounds really good and I'd like to listen to it on its own.
I wish I could DI away from student loans.

IIRC, Lucas up throw is stronger than R.O.B.'s. Anyway, Lucas' U-Smash is the strongest in the game for sure.

+Xo Pachi Training mode has no rage.
ChillTerumi Ok that's kind of a weird to omit from training mode. :l
Xo Pachi It would be weird if it actually was in training mode, IMO.
ChillTerumi Being able to see what your attacks could do at rage percentage would be pretty convenient, I figure.
+Xo Pachi There are many things that I wish were in training mode that aren't.
Thanks for the info, keep on making awesome videos. You guys and 'my smash corner' have really helped me improve my game.
tl;dr
#1 for back throws: towards the stage if at edge
diagonal and away from the stage if going to the other coast
#2 for up throws: *mewtwo* - left or right works
*rob* - always di away,
aka di towards which ever way he's facing
*charizard* - diagonal down and away
#3 for up-airs: for most di left or right
*fox* - di the direction they're facing
*shiek* - same as fox
*rosa luma* - same as shiek
*rob* - hold right then smash diagonal down and left,
or vica versa
#4 up-smashes: for most di away
*lugi* - di down and towards him
*diddy* - di away if to the right of him,
di left if you're on his back side
#5 up-specials: *zero suit samus* - diagonal down and towards,
directly down if sent to other coast,
diagonal down and away if you're far away from side blast zone
*mii brawler* - di towards him
Always super informative. Thanks for this!
should we push the controller in a direction once or mash it like for the grab?
+Natanaël Araia only once... when you are grabbed you can also hold it until you are thrown..

Your next video you should probably talk about the rage effect and explain how certain moves scale with rage so much better than others
All the children have the best back through
I've been watching this like once or twice a day to remember
What I’m getting from this, is for most of the attacks, generally DI towards the direction of the launch

It's one of reason why I ressist for a long time: The successive grabs sir!

is there any reason NOT to ALWAYS hold the stick diagonally? Like for the backthrows, would it matter if I held the stick diagonally even if I was back throwed from the very edge of the stage?
+Midget yes, because your angle would be lower and therefore you die earlier to the side!
So why DI to the left and right when getting launched upward? Would'nt DIing down make more sense? :/?
+P-Town Hero to be exact, that would be vectoring.. but vertical vectoring got removed at the first or second patch...
i would recommend watching the "my smash corner" vid, i think he explains it better :)
Ah not to offend, but there's no point, I don't have/play smash, but I do watch twitch matches and tounaments every now and then.
no
+P-Town Hero and, in actuality, that get's the person KO'd faster. It's much better to DI than to vector at this point sadly.
Steve Never said I didn't care for the answer, just didn't want to watch a video on a different but similar topic. Had a question and had it answered.
great video guys, very important stuff
Thanks for not re - explaining DI and vectoring. It can be really annoying to hear the explanation over and over again :D
Do you guys plan on covering Combo DI? Sometimes I'm not sure if it would be optimal to hold directly away from an attack or down AND away when getting juggled.
amazing tutorial!
You could have talked about Olimar's Up Throw with the Blue Pikmin. It normally kills around 140%
So question for you peach players, how do you DI peach's fsmashes?
Think you just do down and towards them diagonally. That's just a guess though.
beefy smash corner

well that should not be a problem because all u have to do is an up throw instead of a down throw, bait an airdodge, then do a up air.
Well not everyone is a scrub. Some people jump out of things like that than air dodge. People like me.
No I prevent using up throw so I don't stail it, it's a vital kill throw. Plus I'm good at baiting airdoges but not punishing them. Just need more practice
What's the song in the background?
Thanks for all the info guys. I'll definitely ace my smash test :)

I like how Lucas wasn't brought up. He has probably the best launch up b in the game along with its wide range he can take out several fight in one go.
Thank you for the video
"strong up-smashes" no Lucas's PK love...
That's a lot of information to remember but if I stick to practicing against characters that get used the most, I might be fine. (Sheik, Rosalina, Fox, etc. )
The 3 kids are the ones who have a good back throw
another thing u can do for zss and mi brawler is ckick down twice and then di out to stay alive
Yesterday I played Smash Wii U for the first time in 3 months and I noticed that Kirby's B-Throw was significantly more potent as a KO-move. But I guess still not good enough to make the Top 3.
Also, for ZSS up special, when she starts the move, DI in and you'll never get hit by the last hit at kill percents.
+Beefy Smash Doods I found that with Greninja, you can just shadow sneak out of ZSS's Up special hits.
+Kristian Morgan Its a 50/50 for the Victim and a 66/33 for the ZSS. Search .. how to di boost kick
Doesn't Lucas have the third strongest up throw in the game? With Mewtwo having the 2nd strongest and Charizard having the strongest?
Adam Hussain Correction. Charizard has the strongest. Mewtwo is second.
(Without DI)
Love you Mii Brawler.
How many other "doods" are in the beefysmashdoods. I've only heard one speak, c5
Thanks you ! This video help me so much ! ^^
BSD will you do a video on how to DI out of Bayonetta's aerial combos?
Could you make a Video about the double PK Thunder? (I hope you know what I mean) It works with Ness and Lucas, atleast on the 3DS, I didnt try it on the Wii U
Bro, your accent is epic. Also, this channel's really good. Earned a sub from me. (And I don't sub many channels)
On cases like 4:45, why wouldn't you DI diagonal down when they smash you up? Don't you want to stop up AND side momentum? I don't see why you wouldn't want both vectors helping you.
YES!
Great video, thanks!
In the time you mentioned the other video, you could have explained what Directional Influence is
If only they explained LSI before Ultimate came out. That definitely would've saved me a lot in Smash 4...
2:30 "Rosiluma" 10/10
Is there any chance that I could get a download link to the song that you used in the background? Or one to the person who made it? It sounds really good and I'd like to listen to it on its own.
video is so valuable thank you!!!
