After watching different porting videoes for like 100hours, this series made me finally understand the basics. At least enough to get me started. Thanks!
Thanks for the porting videos i for sure learned some things like working on saws but never attempted to port one i might get brave enough to try one like your videos keep em coming thanks again.
Rich info...I bought an old o64 sthil chainsaw and borrowed it to a friend. Got it back piston needed changing... replaced jt and that piston didn't last for 3 days. Took it to another guy said piston is gone.... asked me to make sure I got a piston with nakasil. Nonetheless I'm out for knowledge on these and after watching your video I'm quite confident I can tackle this. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
each time you show me new valuable information for my own build! during this series i learned a lot why i damaged moped cylinders by porting them and didn't a proper chamfer when i was young. Now i can do my chainsaw properly by what i learned on this chanel!
I have loved this series, can't wait to see the saw in the wood! I'll definitely be watching the whole series again so I can port my saw. Thanks again for the great content Tinman!
Cannot call it the turd saw no more, she really looks good I'm tickeled for everyone helping and donating parts.. Amazing guys. Let the good times roll. Tinman buddy....great video as always
Another great video! One thing to add maybe is the ring end gap in the cylinder, if too loose what that looks like, or a few more ring wear tips and comments also. I know this is more about porting break in - but you thoughts on ring wear, and when to buy a new ring, or even how far a piston can be scored before you can't clean it up would be great. Some old saws you can't get parts easy, or they cost so much, so reusing and cleaning up the old cylinder and piston, even if scored, and just putting a ring in might save the saw, if you like the old saw ... also, if something has been run with a crappy air filter, and sucked a bunch of dirt and dust in, what that wear looks like. Again, thanks!
I can’t wait until it’s broken in. I like the simplicity and old school approach that Echo takes. Separate on/off and choke controls. Non -stratified engines(in chainsaws anyway), and quad port design. They are very utilitarian and easy to start with lots of torque but don’t expect to win any races. I think it will run well just that it won’t outperform the mighty 266SE.
This has been solid gold, Tinman. Serious heartfelt thanks for the knowledge you have shared here and all the time and effort you put into this. I'm pretty sure I heard you mention somewhere in these videos that your average work week is about 60 hours. I have a vague idea about the amount of time it takes to edit videos. It is a privelage on our end, brother. Much respect and THANK YOU.
It's lookin good bud! Very clean saw! Man that's gonna make somebody super happy when they open a box and it's in there lol! That saw will be a reliable tool for someone for a very long time. That's very kind of you to do a giveaway with that saw tinman. I hope whoever gets it will cherish it, and take care of it. Best wishes to you and your family tinman! Hope everyones havin a great day!! Be safe!! Be kind!! Give love!!
Hello Tinman, I have ported 3 saws so far with your tutorial. They all are very nice. The latest saw I have done is a 80cc dolmar (cc116). It was kind of a slow saw (7000rpm in the cut) now it is much faster (about 9500rpm in the cut). I tell you, all of my saws have experienced massive gains. I am very greatful that you do these videos. I just wanted to thank you for your help again. I have learned a lot from you and could already help other with my knowledge. (Funfact: I am 19 years old and I live in Germany)
Thanks again for doing this series buddy! It has been so helpful and informative! Looking forward to seeing that jewel scream! Thanks again!👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
Good morning,I just put together a kit saw, watched a bunch of videos.Guess what they all did or did not do.They all either got in the way of critical assembly ie..hands in the way or whole body lol and say "that's how ya do it".Bottom line...dont't forget the details no matter how small thank you for your time.
Just picked up a Husqvarna 272, looking forward to going through it timing it, porting it. Has a brand new highways piston and cylinder, so we will see how she goes😆 Thanks for all you're knowledge
Tinman, @ 7:00-7:15+ minutes, This is what my first old 075 piston looks like. Some pretty healthy scoring and some lighter scratches on the skirts. The cylinder had some light aluminum transfer and slight scratching. But the largest scratch area on the piston and cylinder seems to line up with a small hole in the side of the wall up by the dome. There is a screw that threads into the side of the jug but there is a hole inside the cylinder in line with it. The Compression release is not there, but a screw in plug on top of the jug. I am curious to try to reuse the cylinder. Pretty sure the piston is shot, but who knows.
This has been an awesome build Tinman! I've been watching all of the way through from the beginning. I was thinking about buying a new one of these. I'd also like to get the 800P too.
Thank you tinman you are awsome! I have ported a few saws. always kinda been a bit of a dark art that I've been fumbling my way through. Such well put together vids.
Great advice as always and awesome priceless info and a pleasure to watch the builds mr tinman. Get you and mr Harvey together and who knows what could happen lol.
I thought for sure she'd be in a log at the end of the video! haha Guess we'll wait for the next one! I really admire your attention to detail and going the extra mile on every part of everything. That's what I love most about doing my own work- I'm the same way. Everything takes me longer than it would to take it in to a shop or have someone else do it but I much prefer to make sure it's done clean, done right and I know exactly what went into it. Its satisfying. 😄
As always great info tinman, can't wait to see it throwing chips! I like to rewatch the entire series with each new episode to see the process in order. I'll be using this series to attempt my first porting soon I can only hope mine turns out as good 🙏🤞
I've always been real easy on saws after putting them together. I usually run it blipping the throttle randomly until I feel it get warm. Shut her down and let her cool completely. Then do it again but a little longer. Do that 3 or 4 times and then run it in wood with it extra rich for a couple tanks
I am really getting alot out of this series. I've gone and ordered a bunch of tools to learn how to do this work and I am grabbing any saws I can get my hands on to play with and learn on.
Definitly looks good my old s55 is really starting to come alive now she breaking in and ring is starting to seat. Already got my next project my fathers 455 rancher definitly a whole other beast that will be to port
Awesome looking saw buddy! U Don't always have to start out with something nice, just some time& sweat make it good!! Can't wait to see it in some wood!!
Dude you gotta quit this stuff, taking me away from my slow day at work 🤟😂 anyone who is missing the series is missing out big time! Great work and great information
Asked stihl dealer break in. They told me run it. First tank no more than half throttle. Step throttle speed up next tank. After 3rd tank let it eat. I like way you do break in. Just like with a general break in a new vechical . Step it up as get time in it.
Once I idle anr blip the throttle for a tank or so to heat cycle it I put it in wood fat and let it eat. I'm never an advocate of 1/2 throttle cutting as the flywheel spins at 1/2 speed and the saw could get hot from lack of air from the slow moving flywheel.
GREAT video Tinman!! I missed this & p. 14 my first couple times around...or just felt an Echo didn't really need them ROFL....but w/ my chinesium pair of 660's, one's new top-end having ~5 tanks and the other still on tank#1, these last two parts are golden!! Lemme ask-- How risky do you consider it to go and actually remove, then re-install(new Motoseal, basically) the cylinder, so you can inspect the entire piston? Seems the bottom portion of the skirts are critical to the assessment but, sadly, you aren't seeing those w/o removing the jug...am tempted to do so on one of my builds, the one still on tank #1, because of an oddity wherein I seated my finished cylinder in Motoseal and the damn piston was rubbing the cylinder as soon as it past the exhaust port!! Hadn't done that once during testing & working of the top-end, and I wasn't able to replicate it when I re-Moto'd it the following morning (which is the current build), very weird but it's the only thing stopping me from actually opening up and looking at the entire piston. What, specifically, do you think is most important during break-in? I see the rings' seating as a critical portion, but - beyond that - all I can think of is slight carbon&oil buildups blocking any minute leakages and just 'smoothing out' roughness (which is, I'm guessing, why a saw only really needs a couple/several tanks' worth of babying, yet still continues getting stronger for another half dozen+ tanks!)
Where do you get your parts for Echo I need a spring that latch’s air cleaner lid one of the springs is stretched a little needs to latch a little tighter ?
Titanium gears and internal could get 80kmh on a 80cc 2stroke on nitro yet china needle bearing 6months use before wear not fractured unlike the 4 years on the australia edition which I cracked at 55kmh and had a bad seal!!!!my stuff up.
After watching different porting videoes for like 100hours, this series made me finally understand the basics. At least enough to get me started. Thanks!
Best series on porting I've seen!
Thanks for the porting videos i for sure learned some things like working on saws but never attempted to port one i might get brave enough to try one like your videos keep em coming thanks again.

Thanks for explaining and showing us examples! Great info.
Thanks for the piston information I got my xl12 lightly ported and I keep going back on your pay list and I keep learning. Cheers
Thanks for another great vid Tinman. Hope you have a wonderful week. Thanks for all the great content!

Finally got to watch the project all the way through. This was excellent, Tinman! Thank you so much.
Cannot call it the turd saw no more, she really looks good I'm tickeled for everyone helping and donating parts..
Amazing guys. Let the good times roll. Tinman buddy....great video as always
Mornin Mr Weldmaster
Awesome videos man! Ported my first saw after watching your videos 359 husky! Working on a old 272 now, I am hooked!

Thanks for doing this series in depth, what a great reference guide to go back to!!!
That thing looks sweet now don't even look like the same saw turned out nice can't wait to see it bar up an eating some wood awsome job on it

So close!!!! Can’t wait to see this saw in the wood!!
Take care Tinman!!
Another great vid. Your method of teaching and showing hits home for many. Be safe and be careful.
Nobody has ever told me how to properly break in a saw , glad I saw this video !
Hey Tinman.
Thanks for this vid 👍 Great advice😉
Greetings from germany, Stefan
This has been solid gold, Tinman. Serious heartfelt thanks for the knowledge you have shared here and all the time and effort you put into this.

I run mostly echos so its nice to see a build on one. Very few people do them other than Jereme Hopper Bell.
Many thanks for giving such detail about break in.
It's lookin good bud! Very clean saw! Man that's gonna make somebody super happy when they open a box and it's in there lol! That saw will be a reliable tool for someone for a very long time. I put a grinder to a cylinder for the first time after watching this series Tinman. It was super fun and she's running great!
Another great video. Love this series. Lots of good information you just don't get anywhere else. Thanks buddy.👍👍👍
Now you have me thinking of porting my 5200 . Yes I have been watch all the videos. Something tells me that its going to be a beast .
I'm going to port my 5200 when I get time. I'll have to be carefull though as parts are unubtainium
Lucky #13 gotta love the instruction! Knowledge Knowledge and more Knowledge! Thank you Tinman for the step by step...
Hello Tinman,

Your advice is much needed friend. Thank you for all you do. Inspired 💪🏻🪓⚡️
Kindness and love
Great video, as always. I really like your thorough inspection after you’ve started it. Keep the videos coming!
Just get it in the wood already!! Lol. Getting keen to see the transformation.
I’ve learned a lot from this series and all your other videos. One of my favorite Chanel’s now for sure.
Thanks again for doing this series buddy! It has been so helpful and informative! Looking forward to seeing that jewel scream! Thanks again!👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great series just started my first port job today.
Looks like a new saw Tinman! Can't wait to see her in the wood. Keep up the awesome work 👍👍💪💪😎🇺🇸!
Will be here to the bitter end! 👍 It’s a beautiful build and a lot of knowledge got stuck in my head! Be safe, buddy! 🇸🇪😃
Tiiiiinmaaaaaan...good stuff, that turd sure did polish up!!! 👍👊🌳💚
Been following along. Getting ready to do my cs5000. Keep up the good work!
Ooh, lathe build, yeah! I am very interested in the mandrels and fixtures needed. Thanks Tinman!
Just picked up a Husqvarna 272, looking forward to going through it timing it, porting it. Has a brand new highways piston and cylinder, so we will see how she goes😆
Thanks for all you're knowledge
I was thinking about porting one of mine, now I want to find a turd saw instead! Great series.
Saw is looking great!

Oh my, really like your oven😊👍
Awesome job Tinman!!! I’m so excited to see that thing in the wood!! I think it’s going to rip!!! Take care and as always WORK SAFE!!!!!!😎😎
Epic journey bro thanks for all your work
This has been an awesome build Tinman! I've been watching all of the way through from the beginning. I was thinking about buying a new one of these. I'd also like to get the 800P too.
I have a really ratty 800p in a box, I'd like to find a better one to build on the channel. This 670 is a very nice saw ported I will say.
Thank you tinman you are awsome! I have ported a few saws. always kinda been a bit of a dark art that I've been fumbling my way through. Such well put together vids.
Nice work tinman, that saw has come along ways. Seems to be a runner!
What an awesome series, can’t wait to see it in the wood ......
Great advice as always and awesome priceless info and a pleasure to watch the builds mr tinman. Get you and mr Harvey together and who knows what could happen lol.

Another great video with lots of good info. Thanks Tinman! 🤙
She looks like new it must be lighter after removing all that pitch of it ha ha. Love your chainsaw impressions. 😁
Thanks Tinman! Love the great content. I have learned a lot.
As always great info tinman, can't wait to see it throwing chips!
I like to rewatch the entire series with each new episode to see the process in order. I'll be using this series to attempt my first porting soon I can only hope mine turns out as good 🙏🤞
Not that I plan on taking on a porting project I find this information useful for regular maintenance.
I love this series Tinman. Good stuff
Got to love the turd saw and Tinman. You’re the best

Loving it.

youve learnt alot and its interesting
Detonation from cheap gas will cock the piston upon firing and scuff the piston skirts also
That saw looks so much better with a chain brake.
love this build and this vid
The old echo looks years younger and better cared for with all the new parts. Next video " echo 670 deep in the wood". Thanks
Definitly looks good my old s55 is really starting to come alive now she breaking in and ring is starting to seat. Already got my next project my fathers 455 rancher definitly a whole other beast that will be to port
Thats great to hear!!
Awesome looking saw buddy! U Don't always have to start out with something nice, just some time& sweat make it good!! Can't wait to see it in some wood!!
Thanks Tinman ! I'll check that on my new 545 Husky.
I'm staying to the end, Tinman. 🙂
This series has been great going to take the boys 390 apart. And do a tinman easy porting, base gasket elimination
Those respond so well to exhaust mods it's crazy
Just commenting so you know I’m following this build😁
Dude you gotta quit this stuff, taking me away from my slow day at work 🤟😂 anyone who is missing the series is missing out big time! Great work and great information
yup seen heat failure many times from faulty fuel tank vents. had one fail on my husky 55 and ended up boiling fuel
272 thumbs up...I love all the 72's, a 372 more so than 2
LOTS OF INFO FOR BUILDERS
Looking good 👍
Good info bro 👍👍👍

SAW looks brand new
Where do you get your parts for Echo I need a spring that latch’s air cleaner lid one of the springs is stretched a little needs to latch a little tighter ?
Great videos on porting. You mentioned honing nikasil cylinders. Do you have any videos on that?
I was going to tear into a saw to practice on. But it's a clammy lol. So I'm hoping my old poulan will work! I've got to many projects 😂
Following every moment 😅
What gas to oil ratio are you using for break in?also what oil are you using?how long do you break in a saw ?thanks
Can't wait to see how she cuts. One day I might be brave enough to start grinding
That Echo looks a little bigger than my little baby. I have a CS3000 Top Handle.
Interesting seeing the rings only partially broken in. Looks like its on track to be a strong saw.
Do you recommend a little more oil in your mix on breakin?
Looks good
Your piston can look like that from muffler modding and not getting all the metal out too. Just throwing that out there
Wonder if drop bore scope down plug hole. If scope will show break in of piston and rings on cylinder wall.
It will yep
You check stuff out with that new camera.
Titanium gears and internal could get 80kmh on a 80cc 2stroke on nitro yet china needle bearing 6months use before wear not fractured unlike the 4 years on the australia edition which I cracked at 55kmh and had a bad seal!!!!my stuff up.
Awesome video i love Learning new things but can i ask whats the purpose of porting what does it do for you??
It increases efficiency and power.
Well 16 min more like 2 seconds that went by fast haha
