PCI Coin Grading WARNING: 16 "MS65+" Morgan Dollars EXPOSED

  • When buying a coin graded by PCI, proceed with extreme caution. Probably see if the owner will crack the coin out to you and sell it to you raw - these slabs were literally involved in a scheme that put the owners of the coin company in JAIL. An extreme reminder to buy the coin, not the grade, and see how I did on these crackouts. Remember that I only picked the best coins, and in Mint State, the 2-3 point swings can make a pretty big difference. Let me know your thoughts on the company in the comments.

Awesome vid buddy, and thanks for sharing some solid info! Love the way you set up this vid by informing us of PCI & their shenanigans, and then send some into PCGS, I thought that was super cool! Also, I'm glad you made out alright on a few of them as well! But definitely eye opening, and I totally appreciate the heads up by shining a spotlight on those fake news fools at PCI lmao! Thanks again bro, I look forward to the one coming up next!! Keep up the good stuff!!!

I'm like number 500 and comment number 100. Cool! I've recently heard about some less-than-accurate grading services out there. I've stacked for many years and only recently started collecting rare coins. I want to think they have good intentions and just lack the expertise, but it could just be dishonesty. You have great content on the subject, and have a great new year.

Nice having a single video for the initial grade, crackout and new grade reveal! I guess I was too cynical, I assumed they'd come back MS62. PCGS tends to be stingy these days on mint state coins.
I generally trust PCGS/NGC, but will cherrypick for eye appeal. For ANACS/ICG, I avoid circulated or "in between" grades, except maybe 58. For ICG, I won't even consider it unless the price is slashed by 1-2 grades.

My experience with PCI is much worse than yours. I've had gold coins graded as MS64 that graded AU53 with PCGS. I would never advise buying a PCI-graded coin that was graded below MS66. At MS66 it will probably at least grade MS. This advice is for when you are buying based on photos only. Great video.

The original old PCI green and brown labels are typically sought after for the toning and the fact they were usually in the ballpark . Most everyone with a few years experience knows they average a grade, sometimes two, on the “ambitious side” but the old holder and toning premium often offset the grade price difference
Anything after that and especially the newest white ones shown in the video are rubbish. You did very well with those 4 to get them back 1-2 points off. Most are cleaned or sliders

    Hello Christian.
    I watched your informative video.
    Thank you!
    However, now I'm freaked out?
Just bought a PCI 1886 toned Morgan
    MS 65. 110.00
To avoid cracking my slab open..
Can you please tell me the weight of the empty slab?
Then the slab with a real Morgan inside.
I want to weigh the difference.
I would prefer NOT to ruin the case.
But can't find anywhere telling me the weight of a PCI slab with a Real Morgan INSIDE.
    I'D really appreciate your help.
Thank you for your time Kind Sir.

Good information, however...remember ppl that (in my opinion) NGC and perhaps PCGS also, aren't w/o issues too. Many ppl have stories to tell about (great disappointment per grading consistency and fairness) w/ the "top TPG's". The fact remains...it's always the coin itself; not the slab it's in. Therefore, get skilled...otherwise don't spend big money...stay w/bullion. Or...pay someone to do it for you.

The older original yellow border pci are better coins to buy. They were conservative graded then and can sometimes go up a grade.

  • @jeffw1267
    @jeffw1267 Před 3 lety +1

The oldest ANACS holders from the late 80s (they have two letters and four digits in the cert number) have conservative grades on them. Early 90s soapbox ANACS holders are good but the holders weren't inert so silver dollars are ALWAYS toned around the edges. Even the early ICG holders are often accurate. I wouldn't trust the current ANACS or ICG holders for mint state grades.
