I grew up with a mother like Promise. My dad had 8 kids outside the marriage and he said he wished my mother would have been more stern against cheating. Knowing that she’d never leave is exactly what made him and his mistresses feel that they were not disrespecting my mom’s marriage - no fear. Absence of respect led to a very chaotic household. When you are married you become one with your spouse. So, I do not agree with Promise that a cheating husband is his own problem. Some men need to know that you both value the marriage (both the cheater and the cheated on) - the mistress also needs to value your marriage, she must think that your husband has a lot to lose. It's not about you when he cheats, but it is about the marriage. Imagine if you as a wife are faced with a challenge (emotional/physical/spiritual) and your husband says sorry you got yourself there I'm not involved. I would understand if Promise says she’d welcome a potential second wife for the greater good of the family, but I sensed that Promise comes from a very concerning single-minded and competitive approach. I've lived that life, Dad had a passport to do as he pleased. He had a lot of money and charm. Mom got whatever she wanted. Mom was ok with his cheating, would not leave him and was very clear that there shall be nobody taking her position. Our family became chaotic. It was worse than being in a polygamous family.

It's a big trigger for a lot of women who fight back with "my man this, my husband that." Oftentimes, you'll see that the women have abandonment issues and respond with their defense mechanisms. I absolutely agree with the fact that black men are not being celebrated enough. The fact is, nobody is perfect, not men or women. We're all fighting battles that nobody knows about, but as a couple, I highly recommend therapy. If you haven't married yet, please get therapy to truly heal from things you don't speak about. Most marriages have broken individuals together who have found comfort in each other because they mirror the same wounds! The triggers that come from boasting over healthy love-not that it's perfect, but that it's workable-always cause clashes in marriages that filter perfection while they're actually wounded. The biggest investment anyone can make in their marriage is to get therapy to understand their underlying needs, issues, and requirements. Divorce rates are high all over the world because we tend to filter our emotions instead of effectively communicating and getting professional help with them. A lot of people have childhood trauma that they've never healed from and don't even realize that they have until they get exposed to things that trigger them from within, and it's easy to throw in the towel. You certainly don't attract what you want, but rather who you are.

I have not watched the episode. Was she asked this very good question? She is exchanging financial security for cheating. I don’t think she would put up with it for long if he was not a good provider for an extended period of time. However, I could be wrong. That situation would have to be tested with an actual experience.
