Frankenstein automata

I made this piece for an invitational show at a library. Each artist was assigned a book to create a piece about. I got Frankenstein. I started with a box that I picked up years ago and going through my studio, I found appropriate parts and pieces that were all vintage. The two pieces of doll furniture were pulled from the trash next to my studio where the artist and curator Nancy Larrew put them out for anybody to take. As it was her show, I decided to use those pieces in the Automata. I laid out how I thought the whole piece was going to be in then I worked on the mechanism to animate everything above. The insides are all laser cut components, that through a lot of trial and error became a long cam shaft with followers that made all the parts move. You can also see counter weights inside, which give mass to the whole object.
