Efficient Charcoal retort Update

  • Today, I'm processing wood to make charcoal. Also, I have updated my efficient charcoal retort with a new heat source. Making charcoal is very easy. All you need is a heat source and a burn chamber (the retort). Almost any closed metal chamber can be used as a retort. The main idea is to close off oxygen from entering the chamber.
Here is the link to the oil delivery system I used from Gerrys' DIY channel:
    • Waste Oil Burner EASY ...
One main point, keep the oil delivery system vertical so it works correctly and does not leak.
    Enjoy

I never would have considered an oil burner to heat a retort, but the amount of heat they create can be insane. What a great idea. I’m diggin it. You sir are a genius !!! A mad scientist !!! I am absolutely waiting to see the next gen of this ! Hope it works out well for you sir.

Awesome! Thanks for the encouragement! The update I used a rocket stove and a wood pellet burner for fuel source. Check it out! Thanks for watching.

Very solid advice there at the end good sir. God bless you and your family.

I really enjoyed your video, it was by far the best idea for making a retort. Ps. I mad a fire pit out of a truck rim like the one you had in the background. Very good job from Oklahoma

That is awesome! Tire rims have great potential for repurposing. Thanks for watching.

Very nice 👍🏻 thanks maybe a glass or plastic tube on the bottom of the valve so you can see the drip I like your style lol thanks again for sharing I haven’t built mine yet but I see you are on the right track

Good Idea. I cant get the waist oil burner to stop smoking so much. Thanks for watching.

hey buddy, i kinda feel obligated to let u know of something quite unfortunate that i myself discovered later on into my own waste-oil burner journey, something that really just derailed the whole thing for me..was a huge bummer. so i probably spent a good 2yrs just designing, researching, redesigning, & gathering parts & pieces up until i finally began building it..but i never stopped researching (looking @ other setups such as yours, etc.), was always trying to perfect it.. i mean i scoured the net Lol learned alot & loved every minute of it.
*_And so,_* it wasnt until i got about 75% into the build that i just happened to take a serious look into the emmisions..(hear me out) now i was getting real close to test firing it, & i thot i had alllll the kinks worked out, etc..except for 1 last thing i was only curious about, i always see how "clean" of a burn these appear to have but i just had a hunch _something_ about this was too good to be true & it began to bother me especially once i learned just how much crap is generated from just combustion in general ~& i already knew about all the heavy metals & toxic sh!t they add to these oils but i was under the impression all that stuff was destroyed in combustion & just left behind in the ash........
ha NO, not hardly. some of it does, yes, but also some of that ash (fly ash) WILL make its way out eventually & boy does it travel. but the real problem here primarily just has to do with the flue gas & the disturbing amounts of cancerous crap that gets released into the very air you, i, your neighbors, your pets, etc. all breathe in.. im talking about complex compounds that are created due to combustion, poisonous noxious gases (not just CO & CO2!), dioxins, too many chemical to list, & the fine particulate matter too *~even if you think you cant see it..* _oh, ITS THERE...& it is B A D N E W S. most of this stuff will be around a long, long time too..making its way into water supply & everything else you can imagine.
this sh!t, is precisely what stopped me dead in my tracks. realized i just had to man up & scrap the project altogether cuz theres just no way around this. its a shame... idk about _you,_ but me, i cant live w/ the fact let alone sleep at night knowing what i am exposing all my neighbors to & there kids, hell even my 2 cats..makes me almost tear up imagining a future where 1 of my cats dies from cancer or just even has to suffer even in the slightest bit from 1 of the many ailments this crap causes. its 1 thing if i was just poisoning myself..buts its much more than that. do you have a family? kids? neighbors? are you comfortable with knowing what ive just shared with you? not trying to knock you here, im giving you the benefit of the doubt, but i highly doubt ANYONE who lives near you would be cool with this right?
anyhow, just wanted to let you know man, as a fellow tinkerer.. ya' gotta look into the data, get on google & youll find it. i am not exaggerating, hell i wish i was. theres a damn good reason why this whole oil burning thing isnt all that common & its not just cause the government! this sh!t is _literally_ worse. than having. a *meth lab* next door..& that i happen to personally know for a fact but we wont get into that. but hey, look into it man, make the right (informed) choice.. sorry for novel..Lol. later.......

Great information. I have not used the oil burner since this video, and I couldn't get it to a clean burn. Just too much smoke. So I stick with the wood burning. But I got another source coming soon that will change everything. Yes, it's a wood burner and is as clean as a normal fireplace, if not cleaner.

Treat people with respect, not the way you want to be treated. Have you seen the way way some people treat themselves?

Same thing Mark, no one in their right mind wants to be disrespected or treated badly. Thanks for the comment.

Hi. With regards to your airflow. Open the holes on your steel rim more. They can be double the size. You will not need the airpump if you do that.

With just an oil drip, how does it reach temp to achieve pyrolysis?

    • @ministermanoutdoors6179
      @ministermanoutdoors6179  Před 8 měsíci

The blower adds more oxygen to cause greater heat. Also create a vortex and this combination generats the heat needed.
