This movie gets a lot of hate because it was nothing like the original movie. Personally, I love both Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies equally and differently. It wasn't supposed to be like the original movie. It's not even a remake. In fact, Burton forbade his cast and crew from watching the original movie in order to stay as far away from it as possible. He even had to fight to keep Charlie's father in. The original omitted Charlie's father because they wanted Wonka to be his father-figure. But anyone who has read the book would know that Wonka would be a terrible father. Burton realized this.

I read on another reaction that the first time Willy Wonka bumps into the elevator was an accident, because Johnny Depp didn't see the door was closed, and the second was added for pretending the first wasn't an accident.
Also, it's thanks to Johnny Depp if Freddie Highmore had the rôle of Charlie.
Johnny was so impressed by his performance in " Finding Neverland " that he asked Tim Burton to auditionned him.

Burton really try get as close as he can to the original book, but still have to have his own twist, Burton's charm as we say....and it worked lovely!
Johnny Depp really pulled out WIlly Wonka personality, even it's a complete different man of the original one, but there's something that make it work it's like...a child talking to a bunches of child.

The part of Willy's father having cuts of his archivements is based on a real life moment of Tim Burton. He didn't have a good relation with his mother because she didn't want him to become a movie director and they stood on bad terms for a long time. But one day Tim Burton got the news that his mother was terminally sick and he decided to visit her and he got a surprise when he saw she had posters of all the movies he directed in her room.

Fun Facts actor Deep Roy did most of the oompa loompa musical dance montages and then they CGI'D Him to make it look like there is a lot of oompa loompas! Johnny Deep did an awesome job as the Chocolate Factory Guy. Also when they did the garbage shoot scene they used real squirells and robotic ones to do the Acorns along with veruca salt's stunt double and a dummy to test it while it came to the squirrels jumping on her just watch the behind the scenes it's interesting. 1. The story - you think Charlie and Grandpa Joe breaking the rules with the fizzy lifting drinks, making them no better than the other kids, is a better story? How so?
      2. The visuals - I guess this is based on preference, but the original book was dark and the 1971 movie looks like a school play in comparison to the 2005 movie.
      3. The music - I’ll give you Pure Imagination, I’ve Got a Golden Ticket and Candy Man, but in no world are the original Oompa Loompa songs better than these. The originals are the same song repeated four times with slightly different verses; they’re repetitive and flat-out lazy songwriting. The new songs are all different and actually borrow lyrics from the book. It’s ok to have nostalgia for something, but don’t let that cloud your judgement.
