Cody winning the title that his father never won using his finisher would have been one of the greatest WrestleMania moments of all time, if not the greatest. One of the greatest moments in wrestling history even. Instead it was like watching a Greek tragedy where the hero dies and everyone quietly leaves the theater all depressed and disappointed.
You see I want Roman to reach the 1000 day mark, pal! Haha! Whattamaneuver!
@@thekidfromiowa Part-time, no house show Roman reaching 1000 days? My man literally only works about 60 days a year.
@@donkeydarko77 More like world title hoarding than a reign.
@@donkeydarko77Ironic since Cody was gone from WWE for years, came back and won like 3 ppv feuds in a row then got injured for 8 months,
comes back at the rumble and wins it to get a shot at Roman on the main event of wrestlemania when there was zero buildup beforehand.
Cody sucks, doesn’t deserve to win, he’s a mid card talent for life
This is reminds me of when Triple H beat Booker T at WM 19 . This is the most authentic underdog comeback story you can get. This should have been Cody's Wrestlemania moment coming back from injury to win the rumble and beat Roman. I guess Cody still smells like AEW to Vinny Mac.
You don't know wrestling
The way that feud was booked, Booker should have won, but just based on the matchup, people wanted HHH to make a new star, but he ended up staying as a main event talent WAY longer than Booker T. In retrospect, people wanted HHH to put over Kane, RVD, and Booker T, but it was absolutely the right thing to do to beat them and put over Benoit, Batista, and Cena instead.
you really think they spent 3 years building Romans title reign to lose to someone he had a month long program with.

Brock attacked Cody because he, kayfabe, wants those titles and can't challenge Roman. He hoped Cody would win so he could get them from him, but Cody lost. So now he's livid. Worms his way into a tag match, and when Cody's guard is lowered fucks his world up.

If Cody was introduced as the new champion for the Raw after Mania, it would’ve been an insane pop and probably put the company in a better spot than now tbh.
Roman is a bigger star. They'll make one another even bigger together.
I think you over estimate how important Roman and Cody are. In the entire weekend the only thing that got mainstream media attention was rhea winning. Perhaps Logan Paul’s match. Roman and Cody are stars to the fans. Logan is a mainstream CZcamsr and rhea got attention simply because she’s Australian. The company itself wouldn’t be in any different place.
@troystaunton254 what made the WWE hot over the past year has been Roman's title defenses and the Bloodline. They're building him as their greatest champion ever. They're the one marketing him since this merhrr has been announced for obvious reasons.
@@kornstarr I can agree wit that. Take it with a grain of salt, when I say the company would be in a better place. I’m still not giving up on the WWE or Cody but the reception he would’ve gotten as the new champ, would’ve blown the roof off.

Cornette said something profound: "You run the risk of people thinking there's no hope, so they go on their way." This describes me in a nutshell. I hadn't paid to watch wrestling since Mania 25, but this Roman vs. Cody story hooked me. After seeing Roman go over, I turned it off and thought, "Guess that's that."
It's the same problem that made me stop watching wrestling all those years ago, only back then, it was seeing Paul in main event after main event after main event that cost them my support.
Once Roman won during C@theCastle, I know it wouldn't be lost for a long time.

I quit watching WWE three years ago and came back to watch this year. Between Asuka and Cody losing, safe to say, I’m good watching wrestling for another 3 years. Wwe continues to prove they have absolutely no idea what they’re doing booking wise and it’s extremely frustrating.

Hard to say. It could be a huge thing in the end but will be hard to eclipse what this would’ve been. It’s possible, albeit a very small chance, but they will have to commit and book it perfectly to do so. I think the added challenge is that a lot of fans are going to have a hard time trusting the WWE to do it in the future which will probably make it harder for fans to invest in the story as much as they were in this one since they’ll have doubt it will happen. I think this recent one had a lot of investment because it was genuinely the first time in a long time where it really felt realistic to see the title change compared to anything else involving Roman. It’s hard to invest if you think they’ll just serve you again, there has to be some level of trust that they’ll give you what you want to allow yourself to emotionally invest in a story.
But at the same time if you compare it to Benoit or Mysterio that’s almost an example of why they may not have done it now. Sure those were big moments at WM itself but the company didn’t get behind them to commit and entrench them at that level for the long term and both had pretty forgettable title runs as a result. Or another comparison is when HHH returned from his quad tesr and won the belt at WM and lost it shortly afterwards. There’s definitely merit to that big moment at WM but the bigger picture needs to be a true commitment that goes deeper than that solitary moment that transitions that WM into a full elevation of that person being the guy and rising to a top level for the company moving into the future. I think that applies even more here when choosing when you end a title reign like the one Roman has. Whenever they do it it has to be for more than that solitary night and audience reaction. With the time they’ve committed to this run the ending has to be to someone they’ve built to be at that level and who will launch even further by ending the title reign and use that victory for the future as champion. As much as I wanted that moment last night I think it would be worse if you had that moment and then the follow up to it was a follow up like the moments you mentioned here and wasting how big ending this title reign needs to be for the person who does it. If they commit to Cody and have him overcome steep adversity to finally do it and have the full backing as the champion moving forward then I’ll be fine with this decision. If they don’t then I’ll feel like it was a huge fumble of what felt like a sure thing.
I'm not the biggest Cody fan but it felt like Austin going into Mania vs HBK when you knew it was a new chapter starting the next day
What happens with all of you, wwe create all the blueprints, and when you see a blueprint you'd personally like to work with your enjoyment of the product revolves around whether they put the finishing touches that you would on the angles they do. I can honestly say this was the most invested I’ve been in any story in many years probably since The Undertakers Streak was around. I’ve followed Cody’s career from Legacy to Dashing to Stardust to Nightmare and I was live at Mania last year when he returned! The decision to make Cody lose was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen… right up there with the streak ending. It boggles my mind how they could have F’d up so royally… even if Cody wins it at another time the moment will never be this perfect again… it was the perfect story. The perfect build, the perfect atmosphere and then seeing clips of what happened on Raw. I understand Roman getting to 1,000 days but once he gets there who realistically can beat him that he hasn’t already beaten… how anyone could justify Cody losing is bewildering. This really sums it up for me. I listen to Jim and Brian talk about modern wrestling far more than I watch it, but the Cody comeback/Bloodline story has really captivated me, to the point where I was either watching Raw and Smackdown in full each week, or searching out highlights. This is also the first Wrestlemania I've bothered to watch since before the pandemic because I was genuinely excited to see what happened. With Cody not winning (coupled with what happened on Raw), my interest levels have once again dropped, and I just can't see myself getting that excited again.
The crowd showed exactly how this was dropped. They didn't even boo. You just heard the wind go right out of their sails. A big, collective "ugh".
Exact same thing happened when Sami lost in Montreal.
Thousands of people just got up and walked out and didn’t wait until the end. I was one of those people.
@@williamzebub3252 Not really. He never was really expected to win anyway. Everyone expected Cody to get his historic win and got a giant turd instead

When I heard the announcers talk about the Figure 4, I laughed & knew Jim & Brian would zero in on it
I was even like “what”?
So I’m not tripping, Dusty virtually never did the Figure 4. I thought that was goofy as hell lol
Remember the movie Forrest Gump. Where Forrest stopped running and said: "I'm pretty tired. Think I'll go home now."
That's how I feel about WWE booking at the moment.
I feel the exact same way Jim does about this. It was the right time for Roman to get beat, and Cody was the right guy to beat him. The only reason this would make sense would be if they are trying to tell a bigger story with Cody. The theme of his run is that he wants to do something that no one in the Rhodes family has been able to do. Maybe they are trying to tell a story that Cody doesn't have what it takes, and are wanting him to go through more failures before he does finally win. They just don't really need to do that. People were already invested in Cody's story.
Agreed. But people have been more invested in Roman's story and the Bloodline. Him losing. Each title match is bigger than before. Cody showing up and beating the Final Boss of 3 years ASAP knocks Roman down, and he isn't going anywhere
Mid card Cody will never win the title
Its an L take from corny as he mentions Sammartino, what he leaves out, is that contrary to his statement of "people will lose hope", they in fact, won't, and will stay watching a champion for 8 years, to see who will finally beat him. Bruno and Hogan gave up their respective titles, due to injury, not story, even Burno admits that he had enough and was breaking down. Cody is a super star, but it aint his timem he should've gotten it earlier, now its Roman's time, with his heel gimmick and the bloodline arc, its all too perfect.

The best way to describe the bloodline story at this point is “stale” this was the best place to end it but they chose not to. And now it’s not a matter of “I can’t wait for what’ll happen next” but rather “when will it end?”
With Sami out of the Bloodline it was time for Roman to drop the belt and regroup. WWE seems to think we care about the Bloodline without Sami. Literally my thoughts exactly. I think the ship has sailed. They will never get back to that moment with Cody sadly. They can make it good, but it’ll never be as good. And unless there’s a new angle for them then the win is just going to feel pointless and annoying for wasting our time when it could’ve just happened at mania.
If they wanted Roman to win then mania should have been Sami vs Roman.
Let Cody stew for a bit longer. Continue to build him and so when Sami loses the heat is on Roman and not creative because everyone will be that much more excited for Cody to beat him.
But now it’s just like, well who? Who is gonna beat Roman? There is no one. We’re just stuck in the mud for 50 more days so he can have 1000.
There’s plenty of more steam for the bloodline angle, but they rushed into the Cody match and then realized they wanted the bloodline storyline to continue and booked themselves into a corner. It’s a shame because I think the whole angle is just a bust at this point
"let Cody stew for a bit longer" then Raw after WrestleMania happens 😂
Jey Uso, Solo Sikoa Gunther, Bron Breakker. There’s plenty of people to beat Roman. I don’t like Cody, I think he’s bland, was a big fish in a small pond, far too greasy and American for my liking. And I’m not the only one. He has less of a social media profile than Zayn and KO do and is mostly liked by wrestling marks, not the casual WWE audience. I get being disappointed your guy lost, it this is no worse than when he beat Riddle or Zayn, Cody is no more suited to the title than either of them.

I disagree because your logic is rooted in an instant gratification outlook. Wrestling is storytelling. From Cody's very first promo on Raw after he returned he let us know his Entire storyline as a return character is to Finally claim the world championship. Then he got hurt. SO Here it is only one year later and most of it hurt and you guys wanted a story with that potential to just end already? No way! Cody no doubt sees it that way too. When he wins that belt, that is the End of that storyline, and the start of the next. It was not time to do that after just one year and barely any Cody. There are years in the tank to get him there and make it mean something huge. And if Randy comes back they Definitely need to have him turn heel and screw Cody out of winning his first one too. Lots of story to tell on Cody's path to the Win!
A year later and it’s finish the story act ll
A year later and the story is finished
This is Starcade 97 all over again.
It wasn't who won or loss that made the match fall flat for me. It was all the outside interference. If we can't get clean finishes at Wrestlemania, why even bother?
Exactly! Wrestlemania should be the time where you wrap up and finish storylines.
Literally what corny said. He referenced shiek and said people stopped filling the building. If you can’t end a thing at mania then what’s the point? There isn’t one. And I really think this is going to dramatically affect ticket sales.
I agree
When Cody first returned last year, I thought the thing to do was build him up to summer slam and lose to Roman. Before doing what he actually did after coming back from injury and winning the rumble and dethroning Roman at Wrestlemania. This would in my opinion have teased the crowd and added a element of heartbreak and drama in Cody’s story to get the title for Dusty, before having him win and give the story a perfect ending. Having him lose on Sunday, and having Brock wreck him tonight has to be one of the biggest mistakes the WWE has done . No sense other than the swerve. So much investment for nothing. Go away heat in a way.
Amazing how fast Corny got this out. Even more amazing, is how fast they buried Cody tonight.
he was put over at the same time and if he won people would have been hyped for like one or two weeks and then would be like "who's next"... the only bad booking I really felt Wrestlemania had was ending the streak... though at least we got Brock Lesnar ending Super Cena so take what I can get

“Buried”? You guys are absolute clowns
How does a feud with Lesnar, who Roman is still visibly afraid of, equate to a Cody burial?
The only way this ends with a burial is if Cody recommends stupid ideas to Lesnar like Moxley did.
Yeah they totally dropped the ball on this, last night was THE perfect timing for Cody to win the belts!
No not yet they need to build him up some more we got to remember Roman Reigns is also the guy that's beating wrestlers who for all intensive purposes were bigger and better than Cody Rhodes for him to just win the Royal Rumble then all of a sudden win the title at WrestleMania would be too predictable and it would almost feel like he didn't earn it he's going to need to have some hard battles before you find his way back to Roman and I am calling it now they're going to let Roman hit 1000 days and then have him and Cody have a rematch and then Cody will win the title but I think not letting him hold a turnout was actually a good thing because this will keep things hot between Cody and Roman for the future and besides if Cody wants a title now there's no guarantee people will be nearly as invested in him as the top guy because right off your head you can think of several guys that could definitely beat Kodi to a pulp and he wouldn't be because right off your head you can think of several guys that could definitely beat Cody to a pulp and it wouldn't be closed take Brock Lesnar for example most folks aren't putting Cody over Brock and that's no not to Cody all I'm trying to say is he's going to need to go through a few more battles before he gets the big one again
@Kingmight Nobody will care by then dude.
@Literally God Yes they will. 95% of the people saying WWE dropped the ball were the same group that said Cesaro should have won. They still "hate"watched Drew at Clash and Sami at Montreal. They said nobody would care about Cody because Sami lost but they did.

"People are always into the story until they're not into the story anymore." Exactly how I feel. I'm burned out now, I don't care anymore. It's exhausting to get hyped for no pay-off over and over. I don't care. The ending to Raw tonight certainly didn't help things just reinforced my decision to be done watching for a while. It's been the same exact finish for 3+ years. WrestleMania is not the place to do the same finish as every other show.
The fact there was NOTHING afterward to give a feel good moment was absolute trash too. How many wrestlemanias has it been without a feel good ending now? Isn't the show of shows supposed to be where the feel good happens?
But it's the story. That's all. I've been hearing the story. The story that has to be told the story 🤣🤣🤣🙄🙄🙄
Yup this exactly.
Yeah, the never ending story. 🙄
It's sad that the people that invented Wrestlemania have to now be reminded that Wrestlemania is where storylines end. It's the climax show. Then they started having "Backlash" and rematches and now this year everyone is talking about "wait till Summerslam" as if Wrestlemania was suddenly a transitory event. Wrestlemania is not supposed to build to something else (aside from next year's Mania aka Cena/Rock).
They blew it. There's just no way around it.
Many people have said the best "fights" are between WWE Creative v The Fans 😅
Don't worry WWE fans, when Roman hits day 2,037 of his reign, that's when his storyline is really going to take off !!
That’s okay, the storyline will still make sense on day 2,038, unlike an AEW storyline on day 2.

Nobody thought Codyno would win.
I blame Vince McMadman.
My problem with this match is that it's been the same thing for 3 years now.
Yeah and people were literally sick and tired of it
So solo was the deciding factor in both the Roman vs Brock match last year and in the Daniel Bryan edge triple threat? It’s the same shit as clash at the castle, and the same finish that heel champs have used for years(Jinder, JBL, Seth Rollins with J&J). But to act like every finish has been the exact same for 3 whole years is bullshit 😂
I’m honestly just tired of the screwy finishes with all the interference done on behalf of Roman….and nobody to ever back up his opponent. I haven’t watched AEW in maybe 8 months, but….despite AEW’s numerous, significant flaws….I don’t recall the overuse of screwy finishes in that promotion. Just gave go away heat to me. I don't tune into actually wrestling much. This I did, and they killed the story. I seen people walking out of the stadium also 😂
I was convinced that the ref would see Solo and restart the match until they were walking up the ramp. It would have been a great boo moment to set up an even bigger pop.
Yeah that's what I was hoping they'd do because it would be a logical and exciting twist.
I knew he wouldn't restart it...but logically that crap drives me crazy. You kick a guy out of the "ring area" but yet when you count 3 he's right there and you're not thinking "wait a second..."
Literally the opposite of how Dusty won then lost the title.
Would've been perfect.
@@spsawyer22 yeah I thought when he got on the apron the ref would have the thought of how did he get here so quickly when I kicked him out. Dead giveaway. Especially since this is the first time in the Bloodline reign where you had a real main event guy to take the title from Reigns that people really wanted. I know some people wanted Zayn but he has not been presented at a main event level.
No man that should not have happened. That's the reason why we still hate starcade 97, where sting should have one clearly without shenanigans. Similarly Cody should have done it alone without any shenanigans
After tonight, I don't think Cody's gonna remember what Company he's wrestling in 😵💫
This felt so much like sting/hogan at starrcade 97, sting finally winning at superbrawl didn't mean anything, hope that doesn't happen with cody but it's hard not to think the time has past....wonder if Roman went to triple h and said "yeah, cody winning doesn't work for me brother"
I dont think so. I think Vince did it last minute, and they are gonna make Cody beat Brock and then a few others before beating Reigns at Summerslam most likely. Dragging it out further since Zayn pulled so much momentum away from Cody that more people, including me, wanted to see Sami beat him instead. That story had more momentum and was better done than Cody's at the time. The problem is, now it just feels forced and drug out too long. They should have just done it anyway and people would have still accepted it because they knew what it was. Prolonging it this way hurts it. But I think Vince did it to keep the status quo in place while the sale went through, as Reigns is the biggest star in the company and to have a first time champion on top right at the moment of the sale might have hurt something.
Went back to this after last night's episode of Smackdown. Brian's comment of, "It better not be leading to Dwayne vs. Roman".......welp lol. *sigh* As much as I wanted to see it happen I did NOT want it to be at the expense of Cody

They can keep the bloodline without belts and they would still sell merch. Wwe booking sucks.
theres plenty of other great directions for the bloodline. After losing everything, Roman starts to become more and more unhinged, lashing out at the Usos. The Usos beginning to question their own loyalties to the chief, the revelation that the only reason Jey turned on Sami was to protect Jimmy from Roman. Solo and the tribal elders beginning to question Roman's leadership skills. etc.

I doubt it. They'll always have their weekly crappy ratings and they'll still sell out their big shows. They want Roman to break the record.

How powerful it would’ve been to see The Bloodline enter this Raw with no belts… missed opportunity. Would’ve been a killer, sobering moment.
The first half was so good. Then, when the ref bump happened (like every other Roman match on the last couple of years), I knew it was going downhill from there. They had a 4.5 first half and a 1.5 second half. After taking all that punishment, Roman no-sold at the end and just randomly popped up to hit a Spear for the win. This is coming from a massive Roman fan, but this was the time
I stopped watching wrestling about 2012 and have peeked on every now and then. Its been mainly bad, I have kept up with this channel to hear about certain story lines and had an interest in this bloodline story that was going on. With Vince pushing his way back into the company, we should have seen this coming. Vince really has lost his mind years ago.
As CM Punk said back in 2011 to Vince "You don't know what makes a superstar in 2011?" In the years following that, that question really hits the nail on the head, he doesn't and hasn't been in touch with the fanbase for a very long time.
Vince hired Cody and was gonna make him champion though. 😒
@@James-if3kc comparing boring , talentless roman reign to punk is insult to wrestling...
Same here exactly. I peek in when something sounds cool, but I enjoy hearing Jim. That's enough for me. Admittedly, I followed AEW for a bit but haven't cared much for it lately either. It's a funny thing. The fans know exactly what they want. But wrestling companies couldn't care less and go out of their way to do the exact opposite.
I was disappointed in the result because I’m a bit of a Cody homer since he left WWE at first and have been pretty invested in seeing himself prove himself right in the ultimate way by winning the belt. But last night while I was disappointed I wasn’t ready to get on the “they fumbled it” wagon largely because of how the match went. With how the match got booked last night it was fairly easy to grasp the rationale to leave the belt with Roman for now because of how they handled Cody. Had a banger match the entire time, always staying in the match and showing he belonged, and every time he would start to have an advantage Solo would cut it off which was fine for me to see as that’s normal from a heel champion to win through hook and crook. And the ending I was able to live with because again it seemed he had it won when he was about to land a third Cross Rhodes in a row, a perfect way to conquer an elite champion, only to have the heel interference cost him the match. That all makes sense logically for me to be in line with a heel character and keep your face strong by having the face clearly belong in the event and have their win stolen while the heel is happy to win by any means required.
I would’ve felt a lot differently about Cody had the match gone differently where Cody was outclassed the entire time and then lost the match. If that had been the case then to me that would devalue his standing but I didn’t feel that way with how the match went down. Prior to Raw I felt that there was ample ability to continue the story with how the match went and have Cody overcome adversity before he finally wins. And maybe if done right that would be a big moment that stifles the doubts about his path being too easy, albeit I felt long term story allowed his path to have plenty of roadblocks considering how he had to leave and return. It’s also really hard to see how to have a bigger moment than last night with how behind him fans were and winning the prize on the biggest stage in the sport. It’s hard to believe there could be any better stage to do it than wrestlemania and I’m not sure how you’d keep the support to hold off until the next one.
After tonight’s raw it’s even murkier of how to feel. With what they did with Brock it’s such a 50/50 about how it could go. It could be a complete burial of Cody and snuff out any chance there had been of the huge moment. But it could also be the adversity on the long term path that sets up the ultimate accomplishment arch for him finally doing it. It’s just really hard to be optimistic to that commitment from the WWE especially knowing that Vince is fully back involved with things and how that will impact this since we know he’s prone to change his mind on a whim. If they commit and he overcomes huge adversity to finally do it then it’ll possibly be a fine call. But if they don’t do that it’ll be hard to see it as anything but a huge fumble of a guaranteed big moment.
Dude relax, trust me it's all part of the grand plan regardless of who's booking. Vince flew to Atlanta to sign Cody... there's a massive investment in Cody and that Nightmare logo lol. Cody WILL DETHRONE Reigns
Cody will be champion. He won’t dethrone Reigns. Roman is going to lose out of the blue in a shocking manner. He might lose it to Sikoa.
Too much to read
I agree but after Raw I don’t know anymore. Vince is gonna fuck it all up.
I said the same thing as well. That night was the night to do it. You can't predict the future. You had a great shot to TAKE A CHANCE that you'll be better in the future. Odds are you can't beat a 8/10 moment. 10/10s are too rare.
Now I'm waiting for the hour long raw after mania review. Vince is back in charge
This was the flat out wrong call. And whenever Cody wins his first World Title for WWE it will never be as good as this would've been. And nothing about a Cody win would've stopped any other stories moving forward. This was an awful call.
Indeed, it would have actually opened up many different lanes to choose from. This match is going down in my personal records as "The Cash Cow Slaughter"
Knowing how petty the carnies in wrestling are he may never get a title. He burned Vince and Paul and they could have easily taken that personally because they're carnies and petty.
I’m no conspiracy theorist, but I believe Vince has his hand on the book. Triple H has got to know that putting Cody with Lesnar is a distraction. It’s not going to get Cody hotter because you almost can’t at this point. I have a feeling they’re going to Luger Cody if they haven’t already.
If u don’t like it, it’s Vince
You don’t have to wonder if it’s Vince. It is Vince.
he does as far as what's the top four Mania matches? or this guy is in the millions range he needs to be on the show. that type of thing. he's not writing raw or smackdown or even booking a full WrestleMania.

I knew Cody was gonna lose when he hugged his family before the match. If he was gonna win they would have hugged and celebrated in the ring after.
When the match finished, we just turned it off and felt… nothing. After 25 years of being a WWE fan, going to countless house shows and multiple WrestleMania’s, watching who knows how many PPV’s including every Big 4 since 1995, I have nothing left.

I'm not sure that it wouldn't be as good as this opportunity if they do it again. People can fail at the first hurdle and then bounce back and show their resilience and return and be wiser to situations and be stronger, smarter and more driven to beat him. That said, I was ready for Roman to drop the title, move the Bloodline implosion to a upper mid-card feud and move Gunther and Imperium into the top heel spot, have Gunther beat Cody by Survivor series and have that be the program going into Mania 40. I wonder if Raw is their way of moving Cody to the 'back of the line', and build him up as an even more resilient babyface or it is a burial? I agree with the question about who else? Jey or Solo as part of a dissension in the ranks angle, but I don't buy them as much as I bought Cody.
The only way this works…is if they do their own version of Omega vs Okada. Omega lost the first one…then they had the draw in the rematch. And the third one, Omega won in the most cathartic way possible.
I doubt WWE can tell that story though.
Cody isn’t Kenny Omega and Reigns for as good as he is now isn’t and won’t ever be an Okada type. Imo that story doesn’t work as well when going into it the challenger is a baby face and the titleholder is the cheating heel. Part of what made Omega-Okada interesting by the end of it was how as the dastardly heel, the leader of The Bullet Club, The Cleaner would come close to capturing the big world title but Okada would always find a way to avoid the One Winged Angel and eek out a clean win as a great champion. Kenny couldn’t take the belt with darkness, but when he turned face and accepted light he was finally on that level playing field with Okada and was able to do it for the belt.
Okada losing was part of the story (the 3rd match at the G1 was to show Kenny could beat Okada on a given night even if not for the belt) but the biggest thing was Omega chasing the belt. Cody and Reigns is a little different imo in that actually giving Roman a loss is almost as big/bigger than winning the belt at this point. It’s hard because if Cody wins a 3rd non title match clean it almost peaks the story in a different way.
I've been waiting for this one.
The ground & pound spot was perfect.
Has anyone ever heard another champion say acknowledge me? I've only heard little children shout that at their friends.
Idk how you fumble this badly. It’s been 3 years of buildup for the eventual Roman downfall and a hell of a year of buildup for Cody and they’re too stubborn to have Roman drop the belt. I don’t think there will be a better moment to do it.

I dont always 100% agree with Jim and Brian but with this I agree with them 100%.
It'll be Gunther. Triple made him, is protecting him, and will give him the world title win in a smaller moment on a smaller ppv than what Cody should have gotten at Wrestlemania. And, honestly, wrestling is petty and has a very fragile ego. There's no way Trips isn't still holding on to some sort of grudge over Cody's moment in AEW where "he destroyed the throne" with the sledge hammer. If there was any time for Trips to get back at Cody, this was definitely the time.
