      I agree, tho I also KNOW Hank does not have a death wish, and is more careful than he may sound sometimes.
      It takes insiration and intuition to Storm Chase successfully and Hank has both in excess. He should sell some of these energies to other chasers so they can get close and survive without needing to change their underwear as often.
      Or maybe, lecture in the off seasons so new and even veteran Chasers can expand their knowledge a bit, and stay safe while up close. Certainly the choice to push through the RFD was wise in the long run, and saved a ton of hail damage. Just how could Hank know a second tornado was birthing behind him? Oops, Siblings and Satellites are truly dangerous and demand 360 focus from every chaser [as El Reno taught us painfully.] SO glad Hank has those dashcams in the Windbreaker so he can see as wide as possible.

I tracked online the effects through local townships that got hit first with reddit and took all precautions. We lost power for a long time, and had to clean up several neighbors yards. Don't kid yourself, Hank doesn't. He knows he's in constant danger doing this and could die at any time from the tornado taking a wrong turn. He's talked about it a lot on his channel before. In order to be a storm chaser, especially one who gets up close to tornadoes and films them, you have to accept that risk. You can minimize risk as much as possible, but you can never eliminate it. There is never a "safe spot" when a tornado is on the ground nearby. And even with live radar there's a very slight delay, and the resolution might not be good enough to warn of the position of some hail cores or another developing tornado. Even a seasoned meteorologist and storm chaser can only use their best guesswork when finding a safe path close to a tornado while avoiding hail. Some storm chasers just don't even try to avoid hail. When you're chasing tornadoes, you're going into the most violent place in the entire storm system. All the rotational energy of an entire mesocyclone, focused to a single funnel. Not to mention the hail cores, outflow, inflow, straight-line winds, lightning, debris, and torrential rain. If the tornado is rain-wrapped, and/or it's night, it's even worse.
      Anyway, my point is, anyone needs to be humble when it comes to storms. Know your limitations, minimize the risk as much as possible and accept the risk you can't minimize, and don't fool yourself into thinking you can call any spot around a tornado "safe". That's one of the things I like about Hank, he's like, specifically NOT one of those people who ever thinks they're safe or lets their guard down. He's always questioning his own decisions, you can hear him on camera sometimes say stuff like "Oh crap, oh no, what have I done" and stuff like that. Not a bad thing, just shows he's one of the humble storm chasers and not one of the ones that thinks they can predict the future or be "safe" near a tornado.

    Mesmerizing and terrifying at the same time! Stay safe, Hank! Kinda got a weird sinking feeling about this year’s storm season.. I’m in Southern Ontario Canada and we experienced a Derecho on Saturday; so far one EF2 tornado was confirmed in the town of Uxbridge and Ottawa had a downburst with EF2-rated winds of 195 kph/122mph. Reports are still coming in and assessments are being done to see if there were more tornadoes imbedded in the system.

      I live in Southern Ontario too, just a little away from the Detroit border. I heard they got one, didn't know we were under the gun. Supposedly we're about to get hammered in my area with the second big storm in a row.

    • @NixyRumancek
      @NixyRumancek Před 2 lety +1

      Same! So far just the one tornado in Uxbridge; Ottawa was hit by the derecho, just like the rest of SW Ontario. I got lucky and was 4km away from where it hit in my city - literally one of those "it rained on one side of the street but not the other" scenarios. I knew what it was on radar and was chasing when it came through. For sure thought everything would be wrecked by time I got home. Other chasers sending me their footage was pretty grim. Those transformer towers near Ottawa that got crumpled were eerily reminiscent of Great Plains tornado footage I've seen, definitely surprised only one tornado came from that storm.

      @@NixyRumancek my brother and his wife and kids live in Ottawa and I couldn’t believe the pictures I was seeing! I saw footage of something that looked like a tornado someone filmed from their apartment building in Ottawa, but maybe it was a funnel cloud that didn’t touch down.
      My town was South of the storm. We got blasted with wind and rain for maybe 10 minutes, but nothing NEAR as bad as other cities had it.. am I right in understanding that Derechos are a fairly rare phenomenon in Canada?

    • @NixyRumancek
      @NixyRumancek Před 2 lety +1

      @@MusizKanuck I've not seen any videos from Ottawa but I'm still trying to catch up on my Twitter feed from that day - sounds terrifying! NTP concluded their evals for Ottawa and said it was a downburst with winds reaching 190km/h. They're finishing up their analysis in Ottawa. They still have ground/drone surveys in Rawdon, QC and London, ON. I'm surprised only one tornado came from this. I saw several scuds (false funnels) that day, and the damage certainly looked tornadic in nature. Lucky you weren't in the thick of it.
      They're definitely rare in Canada.
      Canada's last string of significant derechos would've been in the late 1990s - I remember one from 1999. NOAA survey on it says the storm did a number through Thunder Bay and northern Ontario before heading into Quebec.

I have always recorded lightning storms, I have hundreds of thunder recordings dating back decades.
    I once was on a rooftop as a teen, and I experienced something similar to anvil crawler lightning in NC, but it was an otherwise distant storm. The lightning also had nearly a thousand branches and covered the entire sky above me like a dome, and it moved almost in slow motion. It looked like hands forming hands forming hands. A second or two after the jaw dropping spectacle, the thunder followed in a slow, surrounding path like nothing I’ve ever heard and seen since. If you see this... was that an anvil crawler of rare and extraordinary proportions, or was that something else?
