    Ms. Hughes is a legend in the media game. The fact that her company is still struggling for financing and advertising revenue tells you how stacked the game is against independent Black Media.

    I hope some older people are really listening to the part where she says the older people need to create a succession plan! Teach the adults and children the art of business and sign over land, property, so no one has to fight for it in court later on. It’s past time to do better.

    Amazing interview. There were numerous points Cathy made (Black ownership, buying Black, controlling our image in the media) that the whole crew were quiet on because they know they've been conflicted and could do better. But she's so wise, she constantly complimented them on already doing it, possibly knowing they hadn't or not to their full potential, knowing it would resonate even harder with them and make them think.

I think Mrs. Hughes owned several stations by the time Oprah got the talk show. Oprah started as a TV news anchor.

    I Iove Cathy Hughes. I remember when she was on H St NE with the radio station. I was one of the listeners who listened at home, on the way to work, and at work. I tried not to do business at work until her program was off the air. I 'met' many BLACK luminaries and really appreciated Black philosophy thru her program. I was soooo sorry that she was no longer on the air daily. Especially her talks about the Piney Woods School in Mississippi. It was a pleasure hearing her today.

      Yes, They were a power couple in the DMV in the 60"s and early 70. When they divorced, Dewey gave her WOL as part of the settlement of the divorce. WOL was owned by Dewey Hughes years before. He was best friends to Pety Greene, It was Pety that calmed the Riots of 68 @ MLK's Death in DC, Great Men of that era!!! So much history from that era of DC, Chocolate City, USA!

    It's great to hear about her life's work. She's definitely the true definition of a boss. MJJ didn't name his children after Prince though. He, LaToya, and Kathy Hilton made a pact to name their children Prince. Prince was the name of Katherine Jackson's grandfather. I would have loved to listen to the music in Prince's vault tho

    a TRUE legend and BOSS.....My mother and godmother, are good friends of Ms Hughes. They've known her since BEFORE she came into wealth. And they would always talk about how impressed they were with "Cathy's hustle"..and how she would ALWAYS reach back and pull folk up to better their lives. We're from Wash DC...and I can remember when Quiet Storm became a thing...my Mom would tell me "Cathy created that radio broadcast...her and Melvin (Lindsey)"

    Lots of jewels in this interview. Even though she was at WHUR, Howard U radio and access to Howard University, the station sent her to Harvard and U of Chicago to learn the business and compete with mainstream radio. Planned her succession to her son, Wharton Business school, to help stay current. Importance of morning radio and Celebrating Black women whose stories need to be to told. Not the usual rah rah from the crew, they sat back to digest the jewels. Good interview.
