How to Craft Tress out of Oatmeal for Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer

  • Let’s craft some trees using oatmeal and balloons. This is a fairly cheap way of crafting trees. I hate twisting wire and also hate how fragile flaking can be. from now on I will most likely be making all my trees the way.
In the video I will walk you through how you can make your own trees out of Oat meal, Sculptamold, and hot glue. anyone can make these at home.

I recommend that you lightly wipe the oatmeal with water on a brush, then take a salt shaker and dump salt all over the wet oatmeal, let dry, then primer it and paint it.
Salt prevents mold from forming over time and prevents odors.
The trunks we do differently but I love the aesthetics you have done with yours. Great job.
My group makes trees the same way lol have been doing this since 1989.
Also for small trees and bushes, you can use eggs as you casting mold, wrap em in masking tape, case on glue, then oatmeal, wet, sadly, primer and paint. Crack the egg on the bottom, then drain the yoke into a bowl, peel out the shell (or just wash out the inside as the shell is calcium and if cleaned won't rot).
Our trunks are made using any type of cylinder. Elmer glue then layer over it all, then take toilet paper, wrap it around it and let dry. It gives a nice wood look to it.

Hay franky just wanted to throw this out there you can make your own ( sculpt -a -mold ) by simply shredding up some cheap toilet paper rolls and then mixing it with plaster of Parisabout a 4 to 1 mix 4 parts shredded toilet paper to one part plaster the paper can be easily pulverized using a 5 gallon bucket and an electric drill with a paint mixing paddle disk just fill the bucket about half full of water then add 5 rolls of toilet paper into the bucket then blind the water paper into a paper pulp once it's been blinded allow it to set for about 10minutes this will allow the pulp to settle then using another bucket pour the excess water out the pulp at the bottom of the bucket can then be removed and placed outside on a small tarp to let dry once it has dried then you can take the pulp and put it into a large ziplock bag and begin to work it with your hands until the dry ingredients are separated into an dust like state use a face mask or respirator when working with any dust or when mixing up any material such as plaster of Paris or cement ETC. Yes there is some work in doing this but it cost less to make your own sculpt a mold then to buy it at some art stores it's a thought and the best part is you can whip up a batch anytime you need to just get yourself a couple 8 lb containers of plaster of Paris also you don't even need to dry the paper before using it you can stain the wet paper then weigh the contents and then just add a couple scoops of plaster to it . any leftover paper pulp can be put into a ziploc bag and placed in the freezer for next time just don't pre mix any plaster with the leftover paper pulp that you are going to freeze anyway though I would throw that out to you

@@emilylindstrom724 Thats freaking awesome! not the part about you having no space, the part about you crafting. Sorry about the space issue. I know what thats like. I also need to get started on some dungeon tiles, just don't know what style I'll end up going with.

Love that look! Using the oatmeal was a great idea :)
Have you thought about making a mold out of the first batch of sculptamold canopies? Could save you having to redo the balloon thing every time, though you'd end up with same-sized pieces.

i wonder how long it took for the oatmeal to rot. being 3 years later, it would be awesome to know the shelf life of the project

I’ll let you know when they rot. They are more damages from my players than from natural causes so far. The modpodge does a good job of sealing it. I think keeping them dry is key. I dont want to test what would happen if they got wet. But they are still well and in use.

I love the classic RPG look. Just one question, what is the material you use to make the top of the trees?
