had two older sisters who in the mid and late 50's played all of these and I had copies of most of them. So, now I am 65 and long for those times again, when a song was really a song not just some trash put out to make money.
Truly another great 1950's "Do-Wopp" ballad by (Brooklyn's own) the late Jimmy Weston and "The Danleers". Beautiful song on the MERCURY record label, which was a huge record during the summer of 1958, different world back in those days. Beautiful lead and beautiful harmony. Great song to dance to with someone you love. Dont think we will EVER hear love songs like this anymore! An absolute timeless "classic"..........
Yes it was a different world then & a very different America per se' with the Country at it's zenith!!! How can a Country fall so far in just over 60 years?🤔😒😏😞
Marvelous tune from the 1950's, and Brooklyn had a lot to be proud of in having the Danleers "represent"! A handsome quintet who really had only one hit.
One Summer Night I too fell in love with the love of my life and it lasted 55 years and God has him in heaven with him today and I thank him I thank him I thinking One Summer Night
One of my top favorite songs of all time. That guy could sing! I was thirteen in love with a girl seven years older. It never went beyond my own dreams.
This was a great Doo Wop ballad.I had a battered original copy of it I got at some junk store in Coos Bay,Oregon about 25 years ago. When I first heard it,I thought this was another Italian Doo Wop group.I had no idea they were Black until last year until I saw a picture of them on a Doo Wop CD.
It is very sad to me that most people my age isn't in to this music. I love all rock soul and doo wop from 1940s to the 80s. I know a lot about the older days. I love records 8- tracks and cassettes and I'm only 15. All I pray for is that the music and styles last forever. I may be 15, but on the inside I'm more like my dads age (58).
Memories of growing up in Houston in the early 50's and this song on the local a.m. radio stations. It was a great song to dance to at dances when it was all about getting the girl and having fun.
OMG!!! A Danleers video omg am speechless am a big fan of these guys wow!!! thank you for the post of this wonderful doo-wop group and most of all this beautiful song.....so smooth Wow i still can't believe am watching this group on video....OMG!!! Love the Doo-Wop
I have this song on my page, but not this one! just LOVE< LOVE this slow dance song! sure brings back alot of memories! Iwas maybe in Jr High School! 1960-1963! dancing in the teen clubs!
One summer night at a backyard party with the green/red & blue lights under the star's and this song is played ~ What can I say but Ooo Man what a night !..LoL.. Great times back in the day > ^5
Oh man, this is so cool. One of the most memorable ballads of the era. Such good memories or the fifties in Houston driving through Port Houston and listening to great rock and roll.
Nice find here by GNRSlashLover ... the "gazebo" background screams the Dick Clark Show on Saturday nites. This same gazebo was used when the show featured other groups such as the Flamingos, Shields and Ronettes! I even think the Silhouettes had a gazebo turn on this Saturday nite show? Good stuff, fabulous voices and great memories.
I was 9 years old when I turned on my radio to hear this music in 1957.Even at that age I loved all of it.Unfortunately I never could get into any of the music after 1963. I attend doo wop concerts today but I'm getting quite bored with the same old groups (coasters, platters, drifters). They need to showcase groups like the Danleers,Velours and the Pearls at concerts.
Thanks for posting. This song so describes the spring and summer of 1966 when my wife of 46 years and I fell in love. She was 17 and I was 21. What more can I say?
WOW!!! I am so glad to see Jimmy Weston sing this song live. Too bad the other members are not shown so you can see them. This was such poor arrangement. All members of the group deserve to be seen. They ALL have a part in the creation of this classic ballad.
@GNRSlashLover Thanks sister you have some real cool stuff on your channel was tell everybody about this video at work cos they all know me as the doowopman...Hey GNRSlashlover you know Doo-wop is all about the Girl..right!!? ; - ) XX
