  • In this episode of Let’s Talk, I go into the topic of Trends and Fantasy Self. It seems with the rise of TikTok, we are seeing new trends in makeup and beauty every other day. It seems like each makeup technique, even ones that are tried and true, need a catchy name.
    In this video, I do a GRWM using the Easley Reign Cold Moon palette and discuss my thoughts and feeling about Trends. I also touch on the Fantasy Self and what can we do if our reality isn’t matching up with our fantasy self?
    I hope that you enjoy my rambles, tangents that no one asked for, and psycho babble. Let me know about your Fantasy Self and what Trend would you love to come back around?

    I recently had the realization that a lot of the makeup I was buying was for my fantasy self. And after some experimentation and trial/error have figured out what works best for me and that's a more minimal/softer style. This doesn't necessarily fit in with the beauty YT community and that's okay, I need to do what's best for me and that is all. And I hear you on high heels, another fantasy self item. My feet are simply not built for them and I will gladly stick with my comfort shoes with arch support. Great video and message as always.

      Arch support is KEY!! I'm too "old" and tired to be uncomfortable! I'm about to give up on jeans.
      I think we all need to give ourselves grace to experience different things to find out what works for us and what doesn't, but you are right, it's also taking the time to do check ins with ourselves and if something doesn't work out, then stop buying more of it. 😅
      There is a level of confidence that comes with finally feeling comfortable in your skin, style, and environments (makeup is clutter just like any other clutter). I love that you have been able to find this for yourself!!! ❤️

    I absolutely LOVE these videos from you! This one was great! I couldn’t agree more about trends. I remember the very first trend I got sucked into in 4th grade. It was choker necklaces. My parents decided to make an example and not run out and by them for me. So I bought some things from the craft store and made my own! Lol. Great video as always Erin!! 🤟🏻💛

    💯💯💯💯💯💯 I agree with everything you said. I used to want to “fit in” in my professional life. Especially with being quite a bit younger being hired for the role I was in. Once I became confident in my ability, I changed the way I dressed. I also think it comes with age and experience and each individual person (where they are in life) where I stopped caring what other ppl think. I just dont have time to worry about it. Ive learned to relax. Im the type that has one purse or 4 pairs of shoes and will run through items before I purchase more. With makeup, I realized that I enjoy having a variety of things but also enjoy panning and finishing up makeup. I dont care whether its wet n wild, nyx, natasha denona or guerlain. Great topic and reminder to always check in with ourselves.

      I felt old and young for my career, which felt very weird. So I wanted to more experienced people to think of me as one of their own, and the younger ones right out of college to look up to me. But as we have both said, clothes don't earn respect and prove competence.
      I also think that once you reach an age, where you body starts hurting from doing regular things in the day, comfort is key. 😂

    Thank you for this timely message! I sincerely hope the younger viewers will take your advice to heart. I’m older than you and was nodding my head through the entire video! I’ve tried to instill these values in my kids as well. Also, I think "influencer" can have a negative connotation and I prefer "mentor". Two of my greatest "influencers/mentors" were my Mom and my best friend (whose name was also Erin!). Sadly, they both passed away 2 years ago within a few months of each other so I have turned to the CZcams community for the beauty and fashion advice I used to get from my Mom and Erin. My "handle"-Nomad's Dream-is an OPI nail color that was Erin's and my favorite. I will always repurchase it (as long as I can find it) and wear it with her in mind.
    Thank you again for a wonderful "chat", a gorgeous GRWM (especially your eyes!), and, from one healthcare worker to another, kudos to you for bringing your talent into a male-dominated environment (also not a nurse! I'm a scientist for cancer patients). Have a great evening! 😊

      @erintaylorwrites  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Oh the things I would tell my younger self!! I don't have kids, but I talk to a lot of parents and young people through work, and I think its a fact of life and a part of child/young adult development that kids don't listen to the advice from their parents. I remember thinking that I knew better for me and my life and didn't listen to my mom. Now I am thanking her for the life lessons.
      I'm sorry you lost your mom and your Erin. I love that you continue to honor them and do things in your life to keep their memories and lessons alive! ❤️ That is all a part of healing and grieving.
      Thank you for all you do for cancer patients! Cancer truly sucks! Working with people and encouraging them to take control over their health. I will say, my field is not male dominated at all. 😂 It is rare to have a male in my line of work, but it is becoming more popular.

    I'm finding my fantasy self at 48... Less is more. I don't need things to be happy, i need experiences. CZcams started as a hobby, but because of my over consumption, it need into a negative overwhelming space, i stopped wearing makeup all together, yet there sat an entire collection of makeup. I started doing makeup for fun again and now I'm excited to get back into CZcams. I could do many videos on my mind set and how it changed, but I'm a complete rambler😂😂😂 but have 300 blushes isn't really as fun as it seems.

      Trends are just crazy! I think with social media as well, that creators are trying to make their mark and come up with something that will go viral. I get it..but man is it annoying to have all this stuff crowd your feed when you are just trying to watch reels of cute dogs. 😂

    Hi Erin, I really enjoyed this video and your channel in general. I would’nt consider this thought provoking only because I’ve already thought all about this topic extensively :) But very well articulate and I agree with everything. I do hope that it helps someone who is struggling with this topic now. I think it is very hard to be a young person who doesn’t know who they are yet.
    Regarding my fantasy self, I actually turned into her. I have the exact job I wanted and have done all the things I wanted to do. I am now 54 y.o. And yet all I care about now is waiting to retire and live off of a piece of land in the mountains of southwest Colorado where I can dig for fine minerals and rocks all day. I’ve gone through the phases of the first designer purse, designer shoes, etc and now only wear the same pair of Gap shorts and a graphic tee on most days. I stopped dying my hair and feel like my authentic self for the first time. Aging is a wonderful thing. Thanks and have a great day.

    • @erintaylorwrites
      @erintaylorwrites  Před 2 měsíci

      I LOVE THIS!!!! Do you think the phase of trying to be what we THINK society expects of us is a necessary step on the path to know the real us? Like, we don’t know what we don’t want to be until we try it out? I do think that the state of mind that it seems you and I share does come with experience and living through years of not knowing who you are.
      I am so happy that you get to work through your dream job and that you have such a lovely retirement planned. Some of us are just not made for city life. 😂
      And AMEN to the wonders of aging. I work with elderly clients, and there is plenty of stress that comes with aging, BUT it is a GIFT to age!

    Yesss! I love "Let's Talk"! This! This topic! Trends are there to make money. Period. Every time a new one comes to light, I cringe. And don't get me started on "Core". The cottage core trend was so bad! Having a business in the e-commerce realm, keeping up on trends makes me money so there is the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other. One part, hating the prairie dress and the other, picking it up at that estate sale because you know someone is going to buy it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I threatened my daughter that there will be no "Sad, Beige Mom" trend in my house. Babies need color and vibrancy. Not beige walls, bedding and outfits just to "fit in" with the influencers. When i started YT, my "fantasy self" wanted the vanity, the special containers that fit in the vanity, the clear top on the vanity, the special containers to fit in the special drawers and I was sad that i couldn't afford the $10,000 to fund all of that. But then reality set in and i went to the Dollar Tree and bought what worked. 🤪 I love how you approach your topics logically and respectfully. The palette and the look are both beautiful!! I'm happy that you like the palette!!! It always feels good when you actually love something that you spent money on. 🤗

      yes!! No sad, beige mom and no sad beige children! 😂
      I love when you send me the new trends so we can see what will be "out of style" in two seconds! At least my love of bathing in blush is trending again! 😅
      Dollar Tree bins are the BEST! I just "upgraded" to Target bins. There is a way to have a nice set up with a lower cost, but there was the time where people had the HUGE Ikea close set ups with all the draws of makeup and now we see all of them doing the "Decluttering 90% of My Makeup" videos.
      I think we have all fallen down the hole of marketing because we are all human. And you know me, I'm not here to 💩 on people for wanting to change habits that aren't serving them well. We are all in this together and if I can spark something with my rambles while putting on BEAUTIFUL eye shadow, then I'm so here for it!!
