JR is in an abusive relationship with Audi. We need to help him.
😂
JR's relationship with Audi reminds me of Hoovie's relationship with BMW. Abusive, disastrous and expensive. Also highly entertaining.
@@davidgalinat4257 Alex's relationship with Mercedes also.
FWD's got the CVT... if timing fixes it you might as well walnut blast it and soak the pistons with B12 since the oil control rings are probably stuck by now. 2.0T things.
I sure hope timing fixed it, looks like it's only $100 for the set and OE tensioner 😳
@@WatchJRGo if the timing went, then you've got bent valves. Going to cost more than $100.
Are FWD only CVT? Presume that must be specific to America then as you got normal autos and manuals in the UK.
@@andybell7415 could be, Audi loves their "multitronic cvt" on FWD A4s for the last few generations in the US, likely as a gas saver
audi is AWD
The B9 generation was such a major upgrade for this car - no 2.0T timing issues, no more piston ring failures, upgraded PCV which meant less carbon BU, a fairly robust DCT... it's like a Camry in comparison. Good luck with this one, I don't envy you 😅
You should have this Kyle fella on more. He's entertaining to watch.
Dig through the archives, you'll find me ;) haha
JR are you turning into a Jr. Hooptie.
Basically a VW with an Audi badge.👍
I was going to say, isn't this stripper A4 basically a Jetta?
No. Engine is still classic longitudinal Audi.
The early B8s were a disaster (mostly due to oil consumption and timing chain tensioners failing). If the tensioner failed or some other reason it's out of time, you're going to need a full head rebuild with new valves at minimum on up to a replacement engine. They had this stuff mostly sorted out by the B8.5 facelift (2013+).
“Do the hood struts work? They try” killed me
I had the same thing on my 2011 A4 Quattro. It ended up being the fuel control module if that is the problem of the car, you can tell easily by opening up your door and a quiet place and see if you can hear the fuel pump prime if you don't hear it, that is generally the case. The module is located underneath the back seat just outside The fuel pump attached to the body
The Xenon lights are a pain in the axx, the directional versions even more so, you're definitely better off without.
Clean the Haldex filter when you change the diff oil.
I would like to see a lawn-off with Legit Street Car, using Sunday lawn care products of course!
Timing chain tensioner usually goes out around 100,000 miles, some will last longer, some will not even see 100,000 miles. The only guarantee is, it will fail, leaving you with bent valves. Anyone with the 2 L Turbo., should get the tensioner replaced at/around 80,000 miles.
Wow a morning video! I'm used to watching them in the morning but not a fresh video! Lol
Haha, it was done last night but the upload failed. 😬
I have one, 2013 B8.5 model A4 2lt Turbo wagon, but 230 hprs, and 8 speed auto, sports and manual, only has 130kms/80k miles, and the only problem Ive had was water pump at 100k km(normal) and more trans fluid at 120k km, and its rather fast but I have all the extras
It is a''basic '' us spec audi A4. In Europe, thiw model had even fewer options. For example, leather, electrically adjustable seats were expensive extras. The same goes for 17'' alloy wheels. The basic 16'' alloys were horrible.. The basic engine was an 1800 tfsi with 120hp and 6 speed manual transmission, manual a/c and plastic hubcups on 16'' steel wheels. This basic engine was the most reliable petrol engine though. The diesels were much more dependable cars overall.
As a european viewer I find it funny that an A4 with leather is a "luxury car" for americans. Base af with 2.0 tdi, fwd and manual cloth seats is what I imagine when I think of an A4, not luxury.
It saddens me to see John at 400k subs when he works harder than most CZcamsrs
Ha! JR and Kyle need to do more videos together… seems like a great dude.
Tire date codes don't necessarily mean WHEN they were put on... just when they were molded. I've ordered new sets of tires from a local warehouse and have gotten DOT date codes weeks, months, YEARS apart for the same set.
Bent valves, junkyard special. Fuel pump maybe? Or no spark. Compression test will show if there's bent valves.
I've owned three Audi's, a 2001 A4, 2007 A4, and 2010 S4, all with Quattro and 6-speed manual transmissions. The first one was great until a drunk driver hit me head on, and i was glad i had the Audi since my previous honda would have been a fatal accident. The 2007 A4 also had zero issues aside from a bit of oil consumption but thats typical for turbocharged cars. I still have the 2010 S4 and aside from maintenance, the very first issue just happened and i have to replace the master cylinder. Easy fix.
My 10’ bought new A4, stg 2 tune since 30k miles is now at 290k miles. It’s been such a reliable car!! Nothing but $40 oil changes, fluid swaps, filters and spark plugs the last 190k miles other than a water pump which only was $280 to fix. 😊
Cool! I've been working on an A6 lately myself.
You’re right about the offset pedals in RHD versions. I considered buying one back in 2012 but the pedals were so far offset to the right it’s unreal. My right knee was in agony before I’d even finished the test drive. I’ve no idea how anyone daily’s a RHD version.
It feels like the crank issue on the Equinox, will be interesting to see if this one is bad fuel or timing like you suggest. Cheers!
Hey I have a 2010 a4 Quattro there’s a fuse box under hood under panel for windshield wipers under the windshield wiper fluid storage part that blows commonly mine did sounded the same changed that and it worked
You'd be surprised how cheap it is to upgrade the rearview mirror and add a rain sensor. IIRC, it cost about $150 to add those features to my MK5 Jetta after ordering some parts from VW China.
Kyle a very good dude.
Weird there are no codes. Hopefully an Audi tech will see this and weigh in. This type of analysis is helped by 'experience' when no codes to direct a troubleshooting search.
I do like your next prescribed course of action...pull the plugs...compression check and boroscope. Lack of time of course can affect compression if valves not simultaneosly closed at TDC...low compression hopefully with no cylinder damage may support timing chain skipped time.
Spark and fuel...any presence of fuel? on the plugs when pulled...smell.
Lack of spark when cranking using a $5 in line ignition spark tester, plug by plug, pulling each coil pack one by one with in line tester when cranking the engine. No spark or no fuel = no run.
The parts alone is more than $1300. At least you can make some money off of it on parts if you can't get it working.
2010 Audi 4 FWD had a CVT and the engine was 211 HP at 5400 RPMs / 258 ft lbs @ 1,500 rpm. Their Achilles heel was and still is for most Audi gas engines, the timing chain after 100k + miles. Have fun!
Wow so many shared interior parts/materials with a mk5 jetta.
Best of luck on that. 2010 is one of the oil burner years. Our 2011 was using a quart per 3/4 tank of fuel. VAG hasn’t been concerned with making a long lived product for some time now.
Probably out of time due to a failed timing chain tensioner. These VW/Audi engines are known for that.
My 2011 at only 80K needed it🤦🏽♂️
@@joshruiz809 Recently changed the timing chain and tensioner on my daughter's 2012 VW EOS with the same engine. I'm assuming it's the EA888. And these engines burn LOTS of oil.
@@forbiddendonut while doing the water pump(plastic propeller, broke of course) they did it for preventive maintainance, it was starting to get loose. $1700 later
12:26 FHP calls them “Felony Trees” when they see multiple air freshener’s hanging on the rearview mirror with out of state plates. 😂
If the timing chain gave out then you're gonna need some valves and a cylinder head too as its an interference engine
There are many words in the English language, but for lack of a better word, I'll say I love what you do on CZcams. I needed you to know that.
Man I was so glad that it was gone when I went back to look for it again 🤣🤣
hahahah did you want it?? ;P
My brother had an Audi. Car broke down on a trip and he got stuck in out of state waiting for parts.
VW & Audi are notorious for not starting if they have a discharged battery. I'd try putting a fully recharged Healthy battery on it and see what it does.
A friend of mine ( back in the day ) had a VW Passat GL5 ( the 5 cylinder Audi engine) and that would crank all day & not fire if the battery was even slightly discharged.
Maybe they fixed that problem, but I'd still try a good healthy fully recharged battery first.
Water ingress ECU, relays etc check under the RHS panel in the box. Under the relays
I feel like my 2015 Passat Turbo has more options, lol
360,680 views for CRANK NO START Audi A4.Not bad at all.
Haha
I’d be curious to see a compression test. But I bet you can still make money parting it out.Still would be nice to see it run. Don’t think you can lose either way on this one
Good Evening John Ross. I was away for a week and was unplugged so I am catching up on your videos.
My 2009 Hyundai i30 even has auto wipers and a auto dimming mirror. 😄
So much for "luxury car"...
2.0T with Multitronic CVT should give 211hp factory or 268 with a tune. Good luck with piston ring failure and excessive oil consumption, like 1 quart per 500 miles. The multitronic CVT is a time bomb
Don't these have CVTs?
@@hojnikb corrected, thanks. yup vw passat had the first dsgs
Needs a de-tune to save the CVT
@@_RiseAgainst really? multitronic Is that weak?
@@amammes Ha, no idea. I have owned only one CVT. I didn't like it even when it was functioning properly.
Sounds like no compression so timing sounds correct
Ya, it seems to be cranking way to fast...
I have a 2013 B8.5 allroad with the 2.0 and I did the timing chain job myself, it's surprisingly easy provided you have the tool which I'm sure you can borrow from the ninja
Just watched a new video from "Royalty Auto Service" about troublesome Audi PCV blowing out the rear main seal as mentioned in your video
I have a Audi A4 B8 tdi Sline and has been a tank, reliable and i do 52mpg.
Funny also has dents in the quarter panel 😂😂
And mine is a RHD version and the pedals fit correctly, the difference is the throttle uses a normal pedal instead of the big one that Audi normally uses
Even with the car not running, JR is always the super salesman, pointing out all the nice things..
Probably a long shot but a quick check. Check the fuses. Good luck
With you living in a state that loves its Civil Asset Forfeiture and an Audi that smells like a skunk, the possibility of entertaining video possibilities is vast.
You can add Carplay the Audi MMI system. Sold a friend an 2010 Audi Q5 3.2L and he added Apple Carplay for his daughter.
It's such a pretty paper weight though and if nothing works out to get it running you have a lot of decent parts to sell. It sounds like my 95 Neon after it completely shredded the timing belt waiting for the light to change. I opened the hood and saw the broken timing cover and closed it again and called the tow truck. Between the age, bad paint, and a damaged drivers door it wasn't worth fixing again to me. Took a few minor things out of it and gave it away. It did also have almost 190k on it and I drove it from 2005 till Early 2020 so it owed me nothing and I loved driving it being a 2 door coupe.
I know it’s basic for you, but if I have cruise control and a decent stereo I’m fine! I have a 2012 Camry hybrid XLE and I have never opened the sunroof so…
You gotta get a rosstech vcds with the amount of audi’s you torture yourself with 😂
Hey i have an 07 i need to put in a steering rack and pump wanna help??? Its the 3.2 tfsi motor Hehehehe
That b8 Being fwd It's definitely a cvt
I hate to say this but you know how you would have a error code or a non-starter loose gas cap maybe the battery is the reason why it's not feeding its system the right power info and that is the reason why the car is not starting the battery thank you John Ross
Audi, a beautiful walnut finished screen door on a submarine!
Gasoline? LOL.
Always
Under
Dealer
Inspection. Then always a grand plus for anything.
Afternoon video UK watching 🇬🇧
Had a audi B6/A4 fwd with the 1.8 and the cvt transmission took a crap on me in less than a year.. granted i did beat the pi$$ out of it lol eventually the cvt stands for "cant verify torque" 😅
FYI That's not a "base" car in Europe lol. You could get them with the 1.8l Engine, 6 Speed Manual, Cloth Seats, no Trip Computer (missing buttons to switch screens on the cluster), a Monochrome MMI (Red Backlight) and probably Manual AC (not sure on that one). Oh and those Engines have terrible oil control rings. Unless it has always had high quality full synthetic oil with reasonable change intervals, they will burn oil like crazy. Audi just stated 1,5L Oil consumption per 100km (1.59qt per 62mi) is "within spec" in the manual and didn't do a thing about it.
400k well done bud.
All points point to part out imo....
AIN'T GOT NO GAS IN IT... MMMM.
Bye bye timing chain. That motors got no compression😂 you will need a cylinder head. There’s really no getting lucky when these jump time. Probably has the old style tensioner in it too. The lock is only held in with a band from the outside of the tensioner and it likes to shear causing it to compress and create slack in the chain.
It’s the fuel pump! JR has bad luck with pumps…washer pumps, fuel pumps…and those ignition coils are always suspect. Good luck buddy, if anyone can fix it, you can.
good video watched it twice already
Legend! 💯
Do compression test. Most likely bent valves. I am dealing with same crap on a tiguan just like the one in the background
Maybe it is a “walking” basket case. Especially if it leave the owner walking when it breaks down! Lol! I’ve also not heard good things about that era of cars.
Man, if your going to do the chains anyway might as well pull the entire motor and do a refresh.
The only cheap luxury cars are the Lincoln Town Car, some old school Cadillacs, and a few Lexus sedans.
Anything else, well ... there is no such thing as a cheap luxury car ... especially if it's from Europe.
You may buy that Audi for cheap, but you will inevitably pay full price for the car through its costs to keep it on the road.
Oh, and if you ever have to tear the engine apart, take the piston rings and make them into the Audi logo...
Love the looks of the Audi's (especially the A5 Sportsback) but wouldn't dare buy one due to their notorious reputation with the 2.0T engines. Once you hit 100K miles you are on borrowed time before a major disaster. Looking forward to you watching you analyzing and fixing this one.
LOTS of good parts to strip!
Turns out all the parts on the A4 are basically worthless except the engine. Literally every other part sells for $50 so I can't exactly part it out 😬
Nice HmmJetta?! Cannot believe that Audi’s didn’t have auto lights and Buicks have had twilight sentinel since idk the late 50s?
No black ice? That ain’t pimpin
It won't be timing in my humble opinion... (Based on how it cranked).... get the CVT issues sorted and go from there...
My guess is bent valves and failed timing component's
does this one burn oil? need to learn about how to resolve that issue on Audi's. Does the flush work? a rebuild? a at home mechanic fix?
With 160k miles this things gonna burn more oil than deepwater horizon
211 hp on the 2.0T
"180" hp as probably the old 1.8t
Funny guy, that Kyle!
No modern car timing problem has been fixed with just a chain.
Time to bust out the Pico scope.
What happened to no more project cars… I only going to part out cars.
Everyone whined about it... Now I have to kill them off screen 😬
Wernham Hogg!!
After owning a 2007 S4, check the fuel pump relay.
lol I don't think anybody uses the Ipod anymore which is why apple discontinued it two years ago. Now a days everyone just uses their phone or satellite radio
That engine is an interference engine, so, if the timing jumped, you will have bent valves.
Even my 2007 Honda Accord has fancy LED taillights. Is it really a Volkwagen Jetta in disguise? 😂
'Luxury'
Time for a scope. 👍
I had to take a double take at the remote... looks like a Hyundai fob. 😂
Ironman tires……. Did Ozzy manufacture them?
There is NO SUCH THING AS A ‘CHEAP’ LUXURY CAR…..REPEAT AS NEEDED…..👍😁👍
luxury car audi a4 ... this is the best joke i've heard this week :))))))) what a poc audi is
Dead battery and no drive cycles don't help. Will make it make it very difficult by scanner.
That smells a deal killer for me!
