  • My honest review after owning the speed Queen TR7 and it’s matching dryer. These machines are the real deal and built like a tank! Made in the USA and solid. No cheap flimsy plastic parts, they actually get clothes clean and fill the dub all the way with water! Epic purchase. Worth every penny. But them, don’t hesitate.

In 1985 I bought the top of the line SpeedQueen. I had a family of five and used it 18 years with zero service calls. We moved and I gave it to my niece. When they say SpeedQueen is a 20 to 30 year machine they’re telling the truth. I bought a Maytag next and that POS constantly broke. I can’t wait for the washer and dryer in this house to fail so I can buy me this same set of SpeedQueen. My daughter just bought this same set and the deliver guy screwed up the dryer cord. The repair man came and fixed it. When he was leaving he said, see you in about 25 years.

@@rushevents My family bought a Maytag around 1975 and I had it until 2010. I loved that while it was spinning out the soap it also was pouring water on it. It stopped spinning one day and I finally had enough. That was when I found out that Maytag was bought by Whirlpool so I got one of theirs. Never did like it, did not do a good rinse.

Yeah whirlpool sucks my mother in law had a front loader and one day on our last trip to Georgia mountains the washing machine crackled I turned on the breaker. Not an easy machine to work on. I still have no clue If the power transformer cooked or a capacitor. You were would think a machine that isn't used that often would give you trouble. My Maytag washer will be seeing its 30 year birthday and still running well. Someone gave me a coin operated speed queen but it won't stop filling up water I have to Jerry rig it to work. I may make a Maytag out of it In other words hook up the clock switch from another Maytag machine. Digital boards just are problems no matter what anyone says. I don't need Wi-Fi or any other devices. 73

When we bought our house, the previous owner kindly left us the Speed Queen washer from 1950’s. It is wonderful. Recently our washer died and I’ve been using our speed queen. The water on the wash cycles were so dirty. I do t know if our clothes were being cleaned in our seven year old washer. It’s more work to wring out the clothes and empty the drum with the attached hose. Then fill it with clean water to rinse and wring out again. Drying takes longer because the wringer doesn’t use centrifugal force to get the water out. I feel like I need to learn how to repair the 1950’s model. I may never stop using it. Found your video, and I may consider getting a new speed queen. Glad my mom showed me how to use our old Jem of a washer.

Thanks for this excellent review. Just bought this pair today after a lot of research. My family just doesn't need the rougher agitation of the TC5, and my current 20 year old top loader has been leaving tears in my shirts for years. I knew the TR7 would work better for us based on the gentler agitation. I am so happy to finally upgrade.

Is there a way you can open the lid of washer and that washer keep fooling the tub with water? And also keep the lid open while the machine is washing clothes.
When I open the lid, the washer will stop filling the tub with water. I like keep adding clothes as washer is filling tub with water and I also like seeing how the clothes are being washed :)
My husband was able to do this trick with the classic version TC5 that we sadly left behind when we sold our previous house. Now we just got this new version few days ago because the other one was out of stock in the local appliance store.

You sound like our experience with Kenmore - bought a set in '87 and they lasted until 2014. They were still going but I decided to replace them just because they were getting long in the tooth. Bought a very cheap set ($500 for the pair) set of Admirals that surprised me by lasting 10 years. But the washer is getting confused on things so I just ordered a set of classic Speed Queens. They are being delivered on Tuesday. Considering my age now, I am sure the Speed Queens will still be working when I am six foot under, so this is the last washer and dryer I'll be buying.

I doubt that you'll need it but they also come with a 7yr parts and labor included warranty which is outstanding !!! I also love the extra wash cycles for the various types of clothes. And like you I have no trouble washing our bed comforters...ours is just a queen size but It could easily wash a king size just like what you washed obviously. And just like you mentioned in this video they are also made in the USA at the same plant that has been making speed queen's for over 100yrs. I would buy these again in a heartbeat but these will probably literally outlive me now 😄.

We've had our speed queen for almost 10-years and we've never had to put in a service call. Speed Queen is definitely big league when it comes to washers and dryers. They're about 30-lb heavier than the other laundry machines because of the metal gears and other mechanical parts which makes them mantinace free for years and years. It obvious that it's never going to break down, so I guess if we want a newer model we'll have to put our old one up for sale...or not..!!

I bought the last of the mechanical knob non eco models 11 years ago. Been a work horse. First time I had a machine that never thumped or bounced around no matter how we loaded it. Wife thought 800 bucks back then was a bit much, was twice the price of other washers at the time. She soon realized it was the perfect machine. I carried the old machine out by myself. Bringing this one in I needed help from my 2 sons.

This was an excellent review. I am, like you were, on the fence about TC5 and wanting to go old school. But after seeing this, I’ve made the decision for TR7. They are both same capacity at 3.2 cu. ft. Glad to hear you can wash a king sized comforter, so that answered my question. TC5 has 2 load selections and 6 preset cycles. TR7 has 4 load selections and 16 preset cycles. TC5 center post agitator is fixed to drum producing a vigorous agitation. Some feel it’s harder on clothes. TR7 center post is independent of drum therefore producing variability in cycles from gentle to heavy duty. Some feel this is gentler on clothes. I was also wondering about (and not a fan of) the locking lid, but pause button releases in a few seconds so that’s nice. Thanks again for a great review. Speed Queen should pay you for the excellent advertising and review.

@@cameronfeezee4989 Greetings. I have the TC5. And, yes, you can wash a queen size comforter. You obviously must use the "deep fill" option. There are some other settings you can choose, such as "heavy soil", "hot", and "Bulky" or "Heavy duty" setting. No washer is perfect, and you'll have to judge for yourself what you can and cannot do in this washer. I also modified my unit, so I can run any load with the lid still open. That way, while it is filling, I can push the comforter, or whatever I might be washing, down into the water before it starts to agitate. It's great what a little zip tie will do for you. :)

If your clothes are getting wadded up in the dryer, try shaking the wrinkles out each item before putting them in the dryer. It actually makes a huge difference. I've owned and washed with Speed Queen for over 30 years. My first SQ washer lasted 20 years and I have had my current SQ since 2007. The problem I have with the new wash system, which SQ introduced in 2018, is that it does not clean as well as the original SQ 210 degree agitator stroke. The model featured above applies what is historically referred to as an agitub, or tub that turns in opposite directions, rather than an agitator that moves independently to circulate clothes in a toroidal motion for cleaning. Agitubs have been around before and were quickly discontinued because they are less effective at cleaning and stain removal than traditional agitator washers.
All the above machine does is slosh clothes back and forth without creating strong enough currents to continuously circulate the clothes from the top to the bottom of the tub and back up again. With my current Speed Queen, even if I overload my washer, the agitator moves clothes down to the fins, where most of the cleaning happens and back to the top in a constant motion. Inside the TR7 load circulation is significantly less vigorous and the larger and heavier a load is, the less toroidal movement occurs.
It seems to me that SQ have, with this design, dumbed down their washers. The above machine has no breaks to stop the tub and, thus, requires a lid lock, which I find annoying. My current SQ can stop its tub from full spin in under two seconds. Using the agitub SQ have done away with the transmission that oscillates the agitator. The current agitator and tub design of the TR7 does not appear to adequately optimise the momentum that is created when the tub turns back and forth. Perhaps SQ could revise the tub and agitator design of the TR7 to create a more vigorous and effective wash action.
I am still of the opinion that instead of redesigning an already perfect wash system, which has proven itself over many decades, SQ could have incorporated eco functions to meet new government standards and allowed customers to override these functions if they so choose for a traditional wash and rinse. They could also consider re-introducing a suds-save function to reduce water use.
I understand that SQ are again offering models with conventional agitation. However, these models are very limited when it comes to cycles and other options, such as manually selecting water levels. I would like it very much if Speed Queen made available a top loading washer with the cycle and program options of the TR7 and the traditional agitator driven wash system.

My TC5 does have the drum brake so I'm not sure where that statement is coming from. The drum "indexes" during agitation, and also stops quickly when finished spinning. I usually wash full loads and use the deep fill option but on occasion when I have used the eco fill for smaller loads it seems to add the perfect amount of water for the load it's doing. Never understood the need for so many different cycle options as the only two I've ever used on any washer is heavy duty or knits/delicates.

Back in June I got the TC5/DC5 washer dryer set just because I wanted traditional dial controls instead of the led panels and I wanted the traditional transmission as it's just my preference and I love em. I got them from a small local dealer that's been in business since about 1860 and if I ever need service for them, they service what they sell. I usually use the heavy duty cycle with the deep fill. Mine have the 5 year warranty but they're expected to last 25 years and I've never noticed it stretching my collars or anything like that. I just get nice clean clothes. Looks like you're missing the grill cover for your lint trap, or do the 7 series not come with them? To me, a dryer is a dryer is a dryer so there's not much to say about them. I always use the timed dry cycle and half the year I dry my clothes out on the line instead of using the dryer anyhow. Only reason we got the matching dryer was because the old lady wanted them to match, LOL!

There's a reason that Speed Queen returned to their great original commercial-grade agitator washers after this expensive experiment, and why Consumer Reports gave this machine such low marks. I have a good friend who's a SQ dealer and he got so sick of unhappy customers finding that this swirling thing was crap and didn't get their clothes clean. As for me, I bought my pair in 2017 just before these silly things came out and boy, am I glad I did! If mine broke today--unlikely--I'd go right back to him and buy the same model today, only with the electronic panel.

    When I was a kid
On my bike I would skid
    Roll around on the grass
    Get dirty real fast
At night my clothes came off
    Our washing machine never stopped
    My Momma worked so hard
Gettin' rid of the dirt I picked up in the yard
Now over the course of fifty years
    I've had a few fears
But one I honestly can't recall
Is whether or not my washer "got it all"
I never gave it much thought
I just put on the clothes I had bought
And when they got soiled and dirty
I just washed them again to make them smell pertty
And when I washed my shirts and jeans
I never worried if my washer would beat them to smithereens
And I've done laundry a gazillion times
And this is something that never crossed my mind
If I've never worried yet about the clothes on my back
Should I start worrying now, and get all upset?
I say no, I've got better things to do
And I'm still gonna be happy, if my washer doesn't get out all the goo
I recently bought the TC5, it was around quarter to five
The guy who sold it to me, he was a really nice guy
I brought it home, and it may have beat my clothes to hell
but I personally think it works really swell
Okay, I'm done now with this short little poem
And I'm so glad I haven't had to worry about pullin' my groin

I read the manual for the TR7, and I didn't know there are even MORE cycles under the "Special Cycles" where you can select the type of clothing such as denim, super soiled, waterproof, athletic, etc., and the soak, wash, and spins are adjusted accordingly. Are they on a card that comes with the washer? I like that the pre-wash will stop when it's finished so you can go ahead and add the next amount of detergent, and re-start it when you're ready. The soak is really nice too! My dad has the classic (2017) type, and the tub size is bigger than you can tell on videos. I'm guessing the TR series has the same size tub.
My front loader is finally starting to have trouble... It had a good run of almost 20 years (Kenmore/Frigidaire), and I doubt I'd ever see that life again with a new one! But these Speed Queens are still built tough!

    • @fredwiley3731
      @fredwiley3731 Před 2 lety

government regulations will not allow a warm rinse. I have a 2017 classic model with more agitation than this guys model. Being old school controls, you can set the dial to wash and fill with warm water then turn to rinse and let it finish. for less soiled clothes you can select light soil. These new models will accept straight hot water from your heater and not reduce the temp with cold water., which is a good thing for sheets, towels, and whites. I am still afraid of the circuit boards so I would purchase the TR5 if i were you.

Not super satified. I might have had repaired my 15 years old Whirpool that was an excellent machine (ceramic drum just to tell you). After watching your video I will make a few tests to see if it improve. I've set mine at Normal Eco cycle, warm/cold winter and cold/cold summer, Auto fill and Medium soil (rarely working cloths). Our bounced a few times. We even had some water out. And cloths are not as clean as I'd like.
IMO, except if you have working cloths, the fact that you have to use hot water, soak and extra rinse altogether for normal cloths is an indication that it's not that good.

It is significantly louder than the TR7 so if that’s an issue it’s probably not for you.
