Which game nearly beat your all time favourite?
Dragon Quest VIII is my favourite game and it was nearly beaten by shadow hearts covenant!
Legend of Heroes Trails series, ie Trails in the Sky Trilogy, Trails from Zero and Azure, Trails of Cold Steel, Trails into Reveire and coming soon Trails through Daybreak.
I only really started playing for real last year and played through a lot. There certainly were some really great games I've found but only one came dangerously close to dethroning FF7 as my all time favorite game. And that was Ys VIII lacrimosa of Dana.

Specifically Persona 4 so I can finally wrap up the 3,4,5 run of games and share my thoughts of golden. 🤘

I love Persona 4. I played it for the first time last year (first persona game too).
FF8 is one of my least favorite final fantasy games. It's really fun to see someone else with a different opinion from me. I'm glad you enjoyed it. And that Squall toy was probably so fun to play with.
We've talked about this before but Xenoblade 1 really wasn't my thing, although i did play it on the Wii. So I never played 2. I need to.
Sea of Stars is so good. Such an amazing soundtrack. Feitogaming always has its music in his videos.
I bought Harvestella based on yours and Just the Gems loving it so much.

Great video once again. If I were to go by games that actually beat the original Final Fantasy VII back in the day, I would vote for Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Cross. Going beyond the PS1 era, Final Fantasy X was my favorite for may years. To me, it was the first jrpg of the PS2 era that said "yes, the next generation of jrpgs is here". Later games like Persona 5 Royal have surpassed it. What about CS IV? I am playing that right now, so I had to put your video on mute and go away to let it play through to avoid spoilers!

Final Fantasy VII is reeeeeally hard to Beat and it's my favorite game of all time, too. But three games that came very close are Final Fantasy XIV, Star Ocean 3 Till the End of Time and Monster Hunter World. I love these games so much and they're definetly in my TOP 5 Games of all time.
I've yet to play Harvestella. I'm sure I'll love it. 😎

Yeah SO2r is AMAZING. By far the best remake I've ever played. And it raised the bar with SO MANY QoL improvements and additions
Honestly the legend of heroes Trails series has been my favourite JRPG when I started played it, haven't played any other seires that beat Trails upto date. Also Klaudia best girl for me in sky. Ellie in Zero and Azure and Emma in cold Steel.
Also I think Legend of Dragoon and Breath of Fire (Minus 5) is also a good contender for FFVII.
Trails is so good. The long term storytelling cannot be matched!

Xenogears isn't that dark lol. Valkyrie Profile, Koudelka,Final Fantasy XVI and Lisa The Painful unlike Xenogears has ZERO happy moments before the end credits, just absolutely joyless experiences.
@@Chelaxim"dark" does not mean "gore". Game can be dark because of its theme/ambiance/vibe
Xenogears has the same problem every other RPG with both on-foot and mecha combat has, which is that one of the systems is a lot less fun than the other. I hated the Gears battle system so damn much.
Xenogears has the best story and narrative I've ever played. The music is also legendary, and the game was not even finished!
HI John, As an old man, my favorite is Final Fantasy 6! Well, these are very close to my top, Phantasy Star 4, Shining Force and Lunar: The Silver Star, I could replay any of thoses games anytime!

My favorite jrpg is Legend of Dragoon, but honestly the FF7 remake trilogy is looking to dethrone it. I loved remake and I’m extracting everything I can from rebirth - it’s the only game I want to play right now.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is incredible! I've started another playthrough of it!

Great video! FF7's my favourite RPG too.
Tbh, I like Nier: Automata but find it a little overrated imo. I played Replicant first and absolutely loved it, but didn't really get as attached to the story or characters of Automata. I can recognise why it got so much praise, but for me, the philosophical questions it poses aren't presented very interestingly to me.
Same, Automata is ok but everytime I Heard people saying "It's a Masterpiece" i'm like : "Huh......Really?" I found Replicant more likeable Even though you have to beat the game several times

Cheers John. Xenoblade Chronicles X, not for the story but having such a huge world to explore and flying around in mechs was awesome. The game has some irritating mechanics though.
I really need to pick up X. I'm still hoping we get that port of it hahaha!

Better than Final Fantasy 7.. Well my favorite game of all time is Dragon Quest 11.
So games that came close to that.
What makes a game important to me is the cast and the feeling of “squad” with your teammates. Which is why DQ11 but also FF7 are such great games.

That's some awesome games you've mentioned. I really need to get myself locked into completing an Atelier game! I mean both 4 & 5 are amazing! My first one was 4!
I enjoyed FFVIII as well but I wasn’t a fan of the dynamic levelling. I still beat the game but I wish they had a traditional level up system. I still need to play the Persona games, Nier Automata and Sea of Stars!
Honestly it's so good. Honestly if I had to recommend just one of those three it's tough but NIER AUTOMATA is an utter beast
Final Fantasy VII is my all time favorite too. Xenogears and Chrono Trigger almost dethroned it for me, but not quite. Same with Star Ocean Second Story R and Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers. It might be cheating to say that FFVIIR almost dethroned it as well lol
So with remakes of FFVII remakes they are incredible but before I make the statement if they are better than the original I'm waiting for the last game to come out hahaha!
FF8 needs a remake, no need to remaster, rebirth or any rebullshit, just a simple straight 1:1 remake

I recommand a LOT Chained Echoes if you liked Sea of Stars. The story and gameplay of Chained Echoed are on another league than Sea of Stars in my opinion. 😁
I agree. To me, Chained Echoes was better than Sea of Stars in almost every way. The only thing I liked more in SoS was the OST
Edit: actually on 2nd thought, I forgot about the epic moments in SoS... like when you go to the Sea of Stars, or the final boss fight. That is one thing I absolutely LOVE about Sabotage Studios - they make epic shit lol! I played through The Messenger after SoS, and it has multiple epic scenes too. The base final boss, and the dlc final boss, are both AMAZING sequences. Ending games with those kinds of fights is so goddamn LEGENDARY. Like I've-been-gaming-for-over-3-decades-and-these-are-instant-core-memories legendary
@@gotaplanstan Only thing that I would have more in the Chained Echoes OST is more different battle theme, but it was quite good as a whole.
@@Terranigma23 agreed! Yeah I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't like Chained Echoes' OST. Cuz I did. I just liked SoS' a bit more
So Chained Echoes I actually really need to get back into, I actually got stuck on a boss battle and got annoyed with it hahaha. But it is class!!!
my all time favourite game is Final Fantasy X, but i have to admit.. the whole The Legend of Heroes Series from Trails in the Sky to the latest game Trails into Reverie... these are absolut top class games. and i like the whole world building the characters etc. it got me hooked, wanting more and more with every single second i played. in every single game, when someone new joined or when i met someone i recognized.. my heart skipped a beat and i was more than happy to play further and further. I cant wait for the next Arc in the Trails series

Same, I held off on Cold Steel for so long due to my backlog, then when I played it, instant hooked, dropped everything else to play, then the cliff hanger ending and had to wait for CS2 that's when I went back to the old entries and I was beating myself up on how such a great series went under my radar for so long.

FF6 WAS my all-time favorite until recently. Octopath 2 beats it now, and so does CotC. And TS and UO are both close too. The last few years for jrpgs has been INSANE

Persona 4 Golden is one of my favorite games, I played it when i lived in a very small town...and the hangout was the convenient store. Yet,besides Kanji and Naoto I despised the whole cast. I usually don't hate characters, but most of that cast rubbed me the wrong way. I still want to throw Yosuke inside a TV myself.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is my favourite game and the last game i played so I suppose nothing has come close. XC1 Definitive Edition was my previous favourite
Also i wonder how much your favourite is based on nostalgia and if you were to play it again todaywould you feel same way
XC3 is a banger!!! So with FFVII I tend to play it every year, nostalgia could play a key but I think the overall world I am really invested in as well!

Turn-based RPGs need good systems to stay intereting, and both of these games (and their series) have them.
Nocturne just has so much atmosphere, and I love the way your power level can snowball especially in NG+.

What do you mean by beat Final Fantasy 7? I'm guessing sales? Your all time list? There's been tons before and after FF7 like Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics, Lost Odyssey to name a few. Some of the games you've mentioned already is better then FF7 like Nier and Trails series if you get nostalgia out of the way and see it for what it is. My first Final Fantasy was FF4 but I don't rank it at the top because of nostalgia that's ridiculous. My list of all time greatest FF: FF6, 14, 11, 10, 4, 5, 7, 7Rebirth, 7Remake, 9, 8, 3, 12, 10-2, 13-2, 1, 15, 16, 2, 13-3, 13
