What's the worst Spider-Man game you’ve ever played? Chances are, you said The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now, what's the worst Spider-Man movie you’ve ever seen? Uh oh, that’s a pattern. Nearly everything tied to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a disaster, and while the discussions of the movie's good and bad aspects have been talked about at length online, The video game never got the same attention, at least, not the attention it was looking for. Yea, this game was panned heavily on release, and I want to find out why. I have a soft spot for this game because, for years, this was the only Spider-Man game I could play on my PS4, as I sold my PS3, and my other Spider-Man games, to get said PS4, which does mean I sort of had to like it at the time. But, now I have access to a ton of great Spider-Man games, so I can look at the game with a critical lens.
So, I want to answer; was The Amazing Spider-Man 2 good, if so or if not, then why? Or perhaps, should you buy it? Well I can answer that one for free; no, because you can’t buy it. Activision did not renew the licence for their Spider-Man games, meaning any old Spider-Man game needs to be bought physically, or you gotta sail the high seas. Now, we would never condone piracy here on the That Boy Aqua channel, but I can say that purchasing these games through classified vendors is extremely easy, except for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and I think this says a lot about the games reputation. Many of these vendors have mission objectives along the lines of wanting to preserve abandoned games so they aren’t lost to time, and yet, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a tough find. So basically, these websites are saying we want to preserve video games, but not this one, cause this one sucks. Well, does The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suck? I mean, sort of, but it's more complicated than that.
Before we get too ahead of ourselves, I have to mention that while you may seem stuttering or performance issues here I don’t want to hold it against the game, because there's a good chance that I’m not playing the most up-to-date version, as when purchasing the game through aforementioned vendors, you can’t always get an update. I can in good faith assume that performance issues, of which there were plenty, are likely fixed, but no amount of patches, plastic surgery, or even paper bags could fix the monstrosities on display. This is what most astounds me about The Amazing Spider-Man 2; it looks worse than the first game! How, the heck, does that happen? Keep in mind, The Amazing Spider-Man one released on the previous console generation, and while it too had some questionable art decisions, the massive phone for a minimap that takes up what feels like half the screen was a head scratcher, but genuinely everything here looks worse.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a movie unlike any other and The Amazing Spiderman 2 game is much the same. A sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man movie, not The Amazing Spiderman game, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2024 is regarded as one of the worst Spider-Man games ever. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game was panned upon release, and considered worse than The Amazing Spider-Man game that came before it. After Marvel's Spider-Man 2, looking at The Amazing Spider-Man 2 years later is a sobering experience in terms of realising how good we have it. The not so Amazing Spider-Man 2 is something I planned to look at with more depth. I intended for this The Amazing Spider-Man 2 critique, part of my ongoing Spider-Man retrospective, to be really positive. The That Boy Aqua Spider-Man videos have generally been positive ones, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Game was supposed to follow this trend, but alas, TASM 2 the movie and TASM 2 Game have a lot in common in terms of quality. This The Amazing Spider-Man 2 review aims to explore that. - Hry

that's actually a pretty nice deal tbh
Fun fact: this game has a cameo in across the spider verse. The uncle ben death scene pops up in the scene where miguel is explaining the canon
I caught that 1st watch, as terrible as the game was it was nice to see it get acknowledged like that.
@@derrickdaniels3955yea true I was like "I understood that reference" when seeing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ps4 game.
Lmao
@@MikloelChivo0901 I was like "ain't no way"
I remember seeing that.
Man, I remember having tons of fun playing Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 back in the day. I even liked the damn movies.
Oh, the nostalgia...
Same
Same page here
the first one isn’t really that bad of a story or game but the mechanics are trash
The first one was better for me the second one was meh when I first played it back then
Movies was absolutely trash
the menace system in this game is genuinely waccc
Yeah, man. I couldn't relax in free roam without worrying about my rep going down.
u not a crip stop overly using c's
@@BatmanfrmDaXhe never said he was 😭
I liked it because it fits how in the cartoons and comics he’s a menace to some citizens because of j Jonah’s writing and podcasts so your rep matters
@@BatmanfrmDaX bruh 💀 this is a spider man video essay. chill lmao
Harry literally dying while Peter just gives him a pep talk☠️😂
It's like he want him to shut up but he can't speak 😂
This game was actually the very first game I played on my Xbox 360 when I was 8, and the first game I rebought and played on the PS4 when I was 11. Still cant believe I bought this game twice and finished it twice.
I still remember kid me grinding for all the skins, grinding to keep my good karma, and constantly going back and fourth from Aunt May's house to change the time and my suit every five minutes.
The only other Spider-Man game I had to compare this to were the Spider-Man games on mobile, so I thought this was a masterpiece back then. It may be crap, but its still very special to me.
Assolute right, dear friend!!
Bruh we have the same childhood, I also got this as my first Xbox 360 game😂😂
I remember hating this game so much back in the day. Mainly as I was shot and killed by the task force every 2 seconds. Great video.
Imagine hating a game after getting shot every two seconds 🤣
do a video on tasm 1 or 2 game in 2024
Skill issue
i watched radbrads entire playthrough of this game. i thought it was a masterpiece. it was essentially the first spiderman game i was exposed to before all the good ones.
crazy how far we've come.
Heyyyyy, same here! I can't believe I forgot that I watched his series on it! Still love watching his vids!
it had a great story. watching it was fun, but I think playing was something else.
I personally enjoyed the game at the time. After playing Insomniac’s Spider-Man games would I say it holds up? Definitely not, but I can’t bring myself to hate the game.. only thing that really annoyed me was how stiff it felt and the menace system. I’ve always loved TASM whether it be the movies or the games.
when i was binging all your spider-man videos i wondered why you never covered tasm 2. let’s go!
Funny enough, I can occasionally see a copy sold at certain GameStop locations.
I love TASM2 film. Worst Spider-Man film is definitely Far From Home doesn’t even feel like a Spider-Man film imo
same
Agreed. It's the most Spider-Man of the live action films. Spider-Verse is the best IMO, but live action goes to TASM 2. It's the closest to comic Spidey we've ever gotten in live action.
Tom Holland's spider man is like that 1 intern who always gets the extra task left out by his boss(Tony Stark),in homecoming it was OK but the over dependence of tom's villains being influenced by Tony really felt forced, like just because mysterio hates tony stark, peter got a villain, even in no way home his villains are nostalgia based,MCU spider man doesn't have a single emotional connection with any villain unlike other spider man which makes it a bit bland imo.
"By the time The Amazing Spider-Man came out, we hadn't received a widely praised Spider-Man game since Ultimate"
Shattered Dimensions, by the same developer:
Someone finally shares the same amount of love for the vigilante suit as much as I do. I spent the whole game in that suit when i played on the wii u
Fun fact, this game was preparing the 3rd game with the Sinister Six formed by:
Vulture,Hobglobin or Green Globin/Harry,Rhino,Doctor Octopus,Sandman and Mysterio Being led by the Chameleon and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin and there are villains who were arrested by police officer Jeandewolf and they exist in this universe are they:
The Hood,The Rose,The Enforcers and Big Man/Crime Master
and a curiosity about the two games:
It was for the Wolf-Man,Morbius,Doctor Octopus,Vulture and Kraven It was for him appear In the first game and Kraven would hunt all those creatures that we fight that are classic villains in this game but they are hideous horror creatures even so this idea went into the second game in Kraven's mansion but with few villains
In the game the amazing Spiderman 2 Morbius and his gang of vampires would appear but were deleted Several others villains exist in this universe that have not yet been shown as:
Wolf-Man,Morbius,Hydro-Man and The Hammerhead vs Mister Negative the Gang War that Shocker says in one of the lines that they hate each other and are trying to kill each other and finally the Venom being the final boss of the 3rd game alongside the Sinister Six Based on Andrew Garfield's Movies from an alternate universe Being the end of the game trilogy With Venom alongside several villains That exist in this universe and were not placed and used yet.. They left it for a sequel that will never happen.. To close this Saga unfortunately very sad.. Who knew that? and wanted All these things and one more game? 🤔🥺😭😔🤧 like and Bye!
This is very unpopular, but ever since Spider-Man 2018, I just wanted so bad for insomniac to try to replicate this web-swinging system. It's not great. Hell, it's not good. But I've never been so immersed in a spider-man game as I was with the dual trigger system, and the cool dynamic animations for the web rush.
Extra Hint: If you wish to explore the city while worrying less about the Hero/Menace system, put on the Vigilante Suit, level it up to the max, and with its Heroic Bonus, the meter will decrease slower and gain Heroic points faster.
Dude you put so much effort into your work and it shows. You’re definitely on of my favorite content creators. I hope that you have a great day and that your happy with your life
And certain people say Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was rushed but had 5 years after the first game to be developed. While TASM 2 game had 2 years after the first to be made. I won't be ungrateful for Insomniac for actually putting effort into their games unlike to Activision's latest games.
Id take SM 2 over this game everytime
The only positive I can say is that the combat is better than people make it out to be. If you time your taps right instead of button mashing, you'll do more powerful and advanced combat just like in the Arkham games. TASM 1 doesn't have the same level of depth in combat but I still prefer that game overall. Also I'm pretty sure the game doesn't even tell you about the button timing outside of a loading screen lmao
I always liked the left trigger for left hand swing and right trigger for right hand swing, I was 13 the last time I played this game but that was the most memorable part of it. Well that and the dbz ki blasts you get later in the game😂
One thing this game has going for is an infinite stan lee cameo
So funny thing, it may look like webs attached to buildings but they still reach out to the sky. They just pivoted the web line to look like it will attach to buildings
Does anyone remember when Spiderman would make some dance moves each time you changed suits? I loved it.
I too have the same soft spot for this and TASM1, cus I couldn't/still can't afford a PS4 growing up so I played this and TASM1 so much on my Xbox 360
Maybe include Ultimate Spider-Man on PS2 as well
Oh boy I was waiting on this one lmao
Great vid!
The TASM2 game was the first Spider-Man game I played, and I still love it
I still own this game for ps4 and enjoyed it quite a bit when I played it years ago.
i haven’t watched this vid yet but came here to tell you how much i love that you acknowledge listening to these vids to sleep or grind to.
Only a few minutes in but I gotta say, the only thing that I still wish Spidey games would adapt and refine from this game is the double trigger swinging. I always thought it was so cool to choose which hand to shoot my webs from. Made me feel very immersed and like I had more control over which direction I wanted to go, and I feel like insomniacs Spider-Man games could desperately use this because the amount of times I want to go towards and around a building to my left only for it to auto shoot to the right and make it look and feel super awkward is insane. The best thing about it is if they incorporated this they could easily have it be a toggleable feature in the menu just like some of the swing assist settings they put in 2.
Nah
Still can't believe that the first Spider-Man game I played just became 10 years old now. I was 5 when I played it now that I'm becoming 15, it makes me wanna go back to play it again
Good thing I was able to play this as a kid, despite the flaws, this game still has a place in my heart.
I think is hilarious how they adapt perfectly the way the first film is REALISTIC and all the villains from the 1° game are hybrid animals
And then this game is exactly the opposite just like the 2nd movie 😂😂😂
Movie is still better in every way a solid 7.5 not even the worst spidey movie is truly bad
The worst Spider-Man game is Spider-Man 3 for PS3 and Xbox 360. TASM2 Game isn't good but I'd rather replay this game 2 times over than to ever touch the Spidey 3 game.
Edit: Man after watching this video, I have a question. Why did I originally like this game when it came out? I guess because I was younger and was still on a Spider-Man high after the second TASM came out and I wanted this game as a birthday gift. I realize now that this game makes me wanna play Web of Shadows and Edge of Time instead. And I don't like either of those games(Web of Shadows has more bright spots tho), but they are better Spidey gaming experiences than this ever was.
This is the first Spider-Man game I’ve ever played because back then this is the only Spider-Man game I could play.
Nothing like going to a marker on your map only to find two dudes posted up in an alley
And how sometimes the soundtrack just got the regular theme in the background for serious moments 😂
This game was my childhood,i decided to replay it last year since i still had the physical media and i was extremely disappointed on how i liked this as a child.
I remember to avoid that hero and menace system i would just reload a mission and swing around without doing the obj lmao
To this day, it’s the only spider-man game I haven’t platinum’d whether it be on ps3 or ps4. I’ve been tempted to purchase it solely to platinum it and keep my streak, but it’s so damn grindy that I don’t know if I can bring myself to do it.
Getting the suits to max level was the most painful trophy, it took so many hours. Collecting the comic books was extremely boring but they're not that hard to find as they show up as white dots on the map.
Released on 360/ps3 too.
I smacked my phone so fast when I got this notification, woohoo new That Boy Aqua vid!
This was my first spiderman game
I would love to see a video on "X2 Wolverines Revenge." I feel like im the only person I knew who played it, but it was such a unique wolverine experience. Especially in the ps2 era.
I seem to remember the swinging mechanics were good in this
this was my first modern spiderman that i ever played which started my journey to play all of em
asked and you deliverd love your content bro I'm gonna watch this vid while eating
Also playable on my Wii U
I loved the game since I was playing it on the WiiU when I was a kid, I still have the game, spiderman 3 and web of shadows. Personally out of the three Web of Shadows was my favorite.
probably an unpopular opinion but i highly disagree that Tasm 2 is the worst spider man movie. Andrews Spider man actually feels like spider man in terms of his quips and humor, imo far from home is the worst one. also the Mcu spider-man has some of the worst action and visuals of any spider-man movie
also im not saying that the writing isnt dog shit in tasm 2 because it is and the script is terrible but to me the movie was enjoyable simply because of the swinging, action and humor also that ending was one of the most brutal, tragic and emotional things ive witnessed from a spider-man movie, and for what andrew was given he had an amazing performance even with the shitty script. but Tom Hollands spider-man has virtually no swinging and boring action and you feel disconnected from the movie the entire time and its hard to get immersed when flash randomly pops up and acts like the biggest douche bag when he himself is a loser, at least in tasm flash acts like a real human, mcu flash is just in the movies way more than he needs to be. and not to hate on tom Holland but he just takes me out of all the emotional scenes, for aunt mays death i lowkey laughed because of how shit his acting was in that scene
@@ConstantAce agreed brother. TASM 2 is only missing a good plot but everything else is good and also remove Rhino and save Green Goblin for the future. It's flawed but the good outweighs the bad. Tom Holland's overrated, his only best one is No Way Home.
@@Shahriyararin63It's a classic Spider-Man story that uses multiple characters and plot threads as a jumping point for its aesthetic. The film basically has this borrowed approach, in this case borrowing from multiple Spider-Man comics. It's like multiple comics put together in one film. Not everyone's Spider-Man, but it's the style of storytelling it was clearly going for.
@@AntsTheaterCorner2698 true but like they should have picked one and not focus too much on teasing the future
@@Shahriyararin63 That's Sony. Good thing Miles Morales will finish his trilogy in what could be the greatest animated film trilogy of all time.
I actually liked this game when I played it cause it was the newest Spider-Man game at the time. Also the fact I couldn't really play TASM1 because my PC couldn't handle it or the game would crash after the first giant spider boss fight. I still never finished it. It was surprising to me how well TASM2 ran. I guess the graphical downgrade was worth it when you consider that.
Game-wise I still had fun with it but I don't think I considered it better than Web of Shadows or even Spider-Man 3 which I also loved.
Love that Alex webb reference 😂😂😂
I remember my lil bro getting this game and being so excited to play it, he even finished it in a couple days. This was one of the few games I couldn’t finish. Something bout the web swinging really irked me and I couldn’t bother after a few hours lol
Hey Aqua, it would be awesome if you made a video on the Peter Jackson's King Kong game that came out for the ps2. It was a great game and frankly to this day, its still one of the best movie adaptaions into a game that ever came out :)
9:51 Sick
Hearing Aqua saying that the game is hard to finds just reminded me that I have the game downloaded on my old pc for nearly 5 years now!!!
I always liked that left and right hand swing was on the triggers shame insomniac didn’t bring this one over. I think this game has the best web swinging after Spiderman 2.
I got super into this game when Insomniacs Spiderman game released…because I couldn’t afford a PS4 and needed a fix
i was waiting for him to do this video
I didn’t even know this game was a thing
This game came out the same year as Batman Arkham knight, I can’t believe it
TASM 2 game came out in 2014 while Arkham Knight came out in 2015
I was really iffy on the first Amazing spider man game but then I started to LOVE it. I honestly never played the 2nd one but I’m kinda interested
This was the second Spider-Man game I ever played, and the only one I had for a while on Xbox. I definitely wear rose-colored glasses when looking back on it
I liked that game, not love, but liked. I think I liked it more than TASM1. The thing that pushed me over the egde and made me delete the game was the hero-menace system. Sometimes I just wanted to swing around and I couldn't because that task force or whatever it is would chase me around, unless I do the repetitive crime activities. I remember even searching for mods that would turn this off.
6:57 he looks like Asajj Ventress Star wars the clone wars (as soon as I saw the face I immediately saw the similarities)
I loved TASM 1&2, both the games and films
I know they're bad but I love them
I still have this game but you know I really like the swing with both triggers
did you know where i can download this
@@mono3265 sorry I have the disc
I've been playing through the PC version on my Steam Deck and it's not that bad. The only real issues are the bugs and the hero/menace system. The rest is just mediocre or the few high points. The swinging isn't amazing but is a unique and fun system regardless. And it looks great on the smaller screen with the graphics cranked and still runs at a locked 30 fps (60 only works with Vsync turned off, but it was 30 fps on Xbox 360 so I don't care tbh). I main the Edge of time suit, a texture mod for the Miles suit, that looks absolutely amazing
This was my first ever Spider-Man game, I loved it and still do
This game was a mixed bag for me back when I played it during its release.
I enjoyed touching on Uncle Ben's killer again, the attempted ambiguous take on Carnage, the suits, the suit buffs, the combat, the RPG-esque conversations, Kraven's mentor-mentee relationship with Spidey (as well as the big game hunter's later betrayal), the new web-swinging mechanics where the triggers are mapped to Spidey's hands, and the more personal connection to Peter that the game tries to facilitate through his segments where you can just go around, getting his comments on things and talking to others.
I didn't like the sidequests that you mentioned not liking either, how Carnage wasn't the main focus despite being more interesting and fun to see on screen, how the RPG-like conversations didn't really add much to the game or the story, how Kraven felt so disconnected from the rest of the plot, how the new web-swinging mechanics didn't look as fun or feel as good as they could have been, how Peter's sections weren't executed to their full potential, there were waaaaay too many villains (which is saying something when the movie was bloated with 2 while the game had, IIRC, FIVE villains struggling over the spotlight) or the reputation system.
While the rep system was a neat idea, I felt like it was too punishing when you fully maxed it out, and the fact that the story missions (from what I can recall) affected it was quite irritating, since you couldn't make decisions to raise it during missions; if the mission wanted you to be a bad guy, you were a bad guy when you finished it, which would negate a lot of work to slowly undo that rep damage, and even then it was still going down every second. That damn rep system made me never want to replay the game after I beat it the first time, which is a shame since I still go back and replay TASM 1 to this day and consider it be my favorite Spider-Man game alongside Spider-Man PS4. Additionally, the rep system just made the open world tedious to the point of being stressful, as I was always being sidetracked with stopping crime to make sure I wasn't being hunted, and it got to the point where I stopped having fun and actively stopped doing side content altogether to just zip from one mission to the next, as I hated seeing that damn bar go down. All in all, good idea but awful, abysmal, astoundingly terrible execution. While you liked it somewhat, I ended up hating it and it's the sole reason I returned my copy of the game after beating it and haven't got a new one since.
With all that being said, this just makes me appreciate Spider-Man PS4 more, as it fixed a lot of these issues while expanding upon what I liked about TASM 1. Peter's segments are interesting and fun (though dialogue options weren't brought back, which is fair as I'd only want them in a Spider-Man RPG game... but that's never gonna happen lol), swinging and combat are better, the story is great, the side content is... bearable, and all the villains are amazing.
For me, the Amazing Spider-Man 2 game and film are still better than the Spider-Man 3 game and film.
how can u say something so right but yet so controversial lol.
The true definition of a sigma 😢
Yeah...no
@@TrumpsLawyerr Yeah.. yes
funnily enough. my local library has a copy of this.
Yo, respect for mentioning Alex Webb, Love that guy
Damn, I love talking about Spider-Man to Persona 5 music
I remember, when i was younger, being confused how people thought older games had looked good at the time. Now? I remember this game looking a loooooot better than it actually does. Im getting that from a lot of early-mid 8th gen games. Pain. Im getting old.
I played this game on the PS3. And I absolutely loved it on the ps3
I actually enjoyed this game when it came out and have been wanting to replay it
While this game doesn't hold up to Insomniac's games, I can't help but feel nostalgic for TASM 2. I remember being excited for this game and its large variety of suits (the TASM Vigilante suit is one of my favorite homemade suits too). I even pre-ordered the game at Gamestop to get the pre-order suits. I thought the idea of having the left and right trigger being used for web slinging was awesome, and the idea of the crimes system felt awesome. And that soundtrack is so freaking nostalgic I don't know why. It sounds kind of like the soundtrack for Bully.
Unfortunately, the crime system became too much when you got punished for not wanting to do a crime or not getting there in time. I also felt the graphics took a hit and thought it was weird how the TASM 1 suit looked more detailed and realistic than the TASM 2 suit. I was also annoyed that they didn't go the first TASM game's route of taking place after the movie, so that the story isn't a 1 for 1 adaptation of the movie and it's own original story.
Love the persona music
6:40 I’m just walkin’ ere
this was my second spider-man game i ever got, and i loved it. Probably would be bored by know though 😅
I remember absolutely LOVING this game
As a new content creator, it's a genuine question. Do you not need to credit the music you use in your videos ? Such as the very common use of Persona 5's ost in your videos ?
Also great vid.
I’ve been waiting for this
This was the only Spider-Man game I had until 2018 😭 Even growing up i could never play this game for long as I had the Arkham games and lego games as a kid, so I never had too much enjoyment playing this. Thats said...I have nostalgia. I dont like the game, but I also can't hate it because it was the only Spider-Man experience I had for SO LONG. It's also why I probably like Batman a little more than the wall crawler
I think you should review other older marvel games like deapool
Back, I was a little optimistic about this game being fun. I found it fun because of the suit missions, boss fights, and the stealth. Its when I played Insomniac's spiderman later that I realized how incredible shit was Activision's spiderman.
Hey dude can you cover Spider-Man edge of time? It's flawed yeah but I got a big soft spot for it.
the performance issues are not because of the version of the game its because you are playing on newer hardware and the game cant handle it its the same with tasm1
i love both games i own tasm1 on steam and tasm2 on ps5 and still play them to this day
this mightve been the earliest ive arrived at any video after its upload. 45 seconds. anyway, good content bro, I love your channel asjfnawiofnawfwofjqwoifjwiofjqwioj
I just found this at my local shop for $25. I haven’t gotten around to the first yet but the second looks bad
Even tho tasm2 game was mid it did randomly have amazing moments to it that insomniac spm doesn’t even have. Being able to sling shot WHILE web swinging ( like spm 2 PS2) was cool, using the left and right triggers to web swing was cool, having a combat arena (even tho it was pretty basic but I wish spm2 PS5 had a combat arena), some crimes like burning buildings and car chases are better than the ones in spm2 ps5. Otherwise tho it’s still mid at best.
Agreed, even though SM2 PS5 is goated, TASM 2 also has some finishers and stealth that are better then Insomniac games
I actually enjoyed the amazing spider man 2. My only real gripe was that the game was too short. My parents bought this for me on release, and I beat within a day. Then again, I played this back when i was eight and didn't understand things why things like FPS and Graphics and how game mechanics are important.
Happy 10th Anniversary The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game.

Shattered dimensions? Edge of time?
I appreciated tasm 2 game because it was the only spidey game available until Spider-Man ps4
This game did the 2099 suit with the glowy effect?
Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the first Spider-Man game I played, and i wanted more. Which just proves that I love Spider-Man too much
Have you played the X-Men origins wolverine game and the Deadpool game
I spent way too much time with this game back when I was like 8 years old and I genuinely wish I had spent my time on something else
I still own a physical copy of this game for ps4. Kinda hoping to sell it for a good buck.
