    So 4.5 years later I followed your rules. Thanks for the tube. I successfully set my osmo action for daytime riding with a different setting for night time riding, with excellent results. I'd say Osmo has probably improved the camera, but still, your step-by-step tube shows outcomes best

    Great Osmo tips! I really do love how 4K looks, but I believe the other reason to shoot in 2.7K or 1080 is the hardware limitations of the equipment your using. As 4K takes alot of disk space and some processing power. (I think 1080/2.7K would be best to use for people with older PC/Mac hardware) If you have a newer decent rig, by all means use 4K! This way you can also "scale" down to 1080 if you need to also... Please keep up the GREAT Work!

      @brechelt1 Před 8 lety +2

      This is the rope a dope answer. Most displays can't handle 4k yet, so they're ALL downed to 1080 anyway. Why eat so much card when you can capture 1080 or 2.7k to start with. I would use 4k to recompose tho. It would also make your lens look longer.

    I want to add I more thing. Shooting with d-link color mode will give you more exposure than a normal mode. You can decrease your iso more while shooting in flat color profile. So shooting in flat color will give you more exposure in lower iso.

    Great job on the video. I purchased my Osmo the other day and I'm browsing videos like yours so I can shoot great footage right away without having to learn by trial and error. I especially like that you covered theory and basics! It helped my really understand what was going on instead of just using the setting you recommended at the end. The knockout rounds help practice that theory too so great idea adding that to the video! Keep up the great work!
    P.S. I personally like 1080 @ 60 fps during parts of my filming with rapid movements to limit blur. I think blur is my biggest pet peeve where as noise appears to be yours. Nonetheless, great video!

    There is one good reason to use 1080p: A higher framerate that allow for slow motion. Probably not the best idea for low light conditions however ^^

    • @AfriOptix
      @AfriOptix  Před 8 lety +1

      Good Point! I guess it'll be a question of whether you're after slower motion or higher resolution. In hindsight, I should have actually shot and compared at 1080p so we have a reference to look at, before knocking it out in the first second of the first round. will do so in upcoming videos!

    personally i think you missed the point why people still shoot @1080 rather than 4k and that is = ( file sizes ) this can often be very large and slow to edit and upload not everyone who produces video wants large files for many reasons storage of the files for 1, slower render times etc etc it would have been nice to have had a 1080 comparison i have many 4k cameras but rarely do i set them at 4k for youtube videos

    I think the best way to use fast shutter speed is when filming something like a car chase or fight scene, it give the film a choppy look and exaggerates the sense of speed.

    This is a very good vid , however , it depends on what the focus of attention is and what you are trying to get ..
    The explaination of the settings and why is good ..
    On the iso 800 / 1/50th is good for the static view , however , catching people ,it is too dark. Good for the static elements.
    Still ,over all a good "starting point for those with no video / photography Knowledge.

    The reason I shoot in lower resolution when not required is to keep video file size small which is easy to port, less card size hungry and easy to trim for short extractions. The lower ISO at night is obviously cleaner where buildings don't have noise and you can read hoarding board signs. But it depends on what you want to use the clip for. If your objective is to be able to read the signs then yes that is true but if you want to show other things like presence of building, better silhouettes of people walking round, the overall place then ISO 3200 is doing pretty good job.

  • @MrDirt1212

    The reason you might want to shoot in 1080p over 4k is because sometimes you need to use 60 or 120 fps which is unavailable in 4k on the osmo.

      Thanks and you're welcome! You can definitely use an appropriate LUT to color grade your Low Light DJI footage to any style you're after. The Free LUT we provide works best in conditions similar to the demo video (bright outdoor sunny / overcast weather) but our more comprehensive LUT packs will cater for most situations, including low light: here's an example of a color grade of the same footage from this video, color graded using the "Warm Sun" Lut from the Everest Pack : www.dropbox.com/s/970kqp4bgilfovv/04_4K_ISO800_SHTR_25.00_00_20_14.Still003.jpg?dl=0

I know 4k eats a lot os space on the CD card it's why i got 64 gig card and when i do the post production often i do a lot of cuts in the footage which leaves the footage not too huge.

    great tips, thanks for posting. I've been tempted to buy one of these but every bit of footage I've seen has terrible focus problems, except for a very limited range, about 1m + everything else is 'soft'. I couldn't even drop it into a 1080 timeline alongside my HD footage, it looks poor. No problem if it;s all sand, sea and turf or cityscapes but if people are important elements in the foreground it's nit acceptable. Doesn't matter what the res is, if it's not in focus it l;ooks bad beside focused 1080 footage.

    • @AfriOptix
      @AfriOptix  Před 7 lety

      The focus distance of the Osmo is 1.5 m to infinity so not really good for selfie type shots. The Osmo+ however focusses from a much closer distance of 0.5m so this might be better suited for selfie type shots.

    Hi, what are best settings for filming myself outside..so I’m in focus and the background is blurred, and the colour looks bright? Thanks

      Buy a better camera with better shallow depth of field trust me I own the osmo pocket and although I love this little camera it just can't do much in the dof .

    Hi. Thanks you for these video. I Just purchased my OSMO and all accessories that comes in. Only the bike mount that i haven't purchased. I have purchased the Osmo for Shooting Professional Video for Movie and Professional Music video. My first question: Can i shoot professional footage of Hight quality movie like Hollywood? I'am from Mauritius Island. Thanks a Lot and waiting for you respond.

      You can shoot anything with the osmo. Shooting "professional video" is not determined by the equipment but rather by your skills, creativity and how you use the footage. There are parts of oscar winning documentaries that were shot on an iphone, just to prove this point . Searching for Sugar Man is one such oscar winning documentary.

      Hello,
      My experience.
      For 2 or 3 days days there is the stars night. So I tried tonight a nightlapse 1600 iso and 25 shutter, 1 shot every 5 second
      And... Nothing. Black. The sky was clean. I am in Martinique FWI.
      Sorry for my english....

      No problem with your English! Try to use a longer shutter speed so you are letting in as much light as possible. Since this is a photo at night, you can even try shutter speed of 1 second or even 2 seconds. After each trial check your images and you'll soon see a setting that gives acceptable exposure of the stars

      Thanks.
      I don't find how to fix the shutter speed of 1 or 2 seconds. Can you help me ?
