    Gimbal modes - I think perhaps you skimmed over this key subject a bit - here's my standard explanation which might help people who are puzzled -
    In FPV mode (which should have been called 'Unlocked' mode), the gimbal head will follow the direction of the camera handle without restriction - though the movement will be smoothed. It means that the Pocket will behave like any other camera, apart from the smoothed movement.
    In Follow mode - which should have been called 'Horizon Lock' mode - the gimbal head will always stay horizontal. This means that you don't have to worry about keeping the horizon straight. The camera will look after itself in that respect, and that's handy because with the tiny screen, it's hard to tell if the horizon is exactly straight or not. Note that "Follow Mode" has nothing at all to do with tracking a face or other subject. This mode is perhaps the most often used.
    In Tilt Lock mode, which should have been called 'Tilt and Horizon Lock' mode (except that's too long) the camera behaves the same as in Follow mode (horizon always straight) but in addition, the gimbal will point ahead in one direction. If you move the handle, you won't be able to point the camera up to the sky or down to your feet. You can set it to straight ahead using the 'recenter' option, and you can adjust it down to your feet or up to the sky using the little slider on the right side of the screen. It will then stay pointing at the sky or your feet (or anywhere between) regardless of handle movement.
    In all these modes, it's always possible to pan the camera from side to side. If you want to lock that axis as well as the axes locked by Tilt Lock, you'll have to use the controller wheel accessory and hold down the right hand button on the controller. That makes the camera point in a constant direction, regardless of how you move the handle, thus preventing panning.
    Hope that helps.

      Thank you for the concise explanations and "should have been called"!!

    • @dacbuc
      @dacbuc Před 8 měsíci

      Well, to me it seems that FPV mode should have been called FOLLOW, since the camera follows all the 3 axis handle movements, but smoother.
      FOLLOW should have been named ROLL LOCK, as the camera will try to get vertical lines as vertical as possible. Tilting and panning will still follow the handle movements.
      And TILT LOCK should be TILT & ROLL LOCK, as only panning will follow the handle movements.

    • @Ozpeter
      @Ozpeter Před 8 měsíci

      @@dacbuc I think the names used are standard descriptions for gimbal modes. But indeed some are a bit confusing. Almost the most popular video I ever made was an explanation of gimbal modes, several years ago!

    I've watched a TON of Osmo Pocket videos just before & after my purchase recently and this might be the BEST all-around info completed into one video I've seen so far! I knew much of this already, but only because I watched like 20 other videos... this one video has some GREAT info! Thanks for making it :)

    I'm watching this clip for the third time!
    First time I was watching it just to be familiar with freshly purchased Osmo Packet.
    The second time I was watching this movie to get some tips for my short trip to Pocono Mountains.
    Now I'm watching it for the third time because I have big commercial photo shooting tomorrow, and I also need to record quick video just to send it to the client as an info clip. Now I need your tips to set the camera once and just start recording tomorrow without even a chance to check it afterwards. And this time your tips are even more helpful! Thank you!!!

    Filter selection depends greatly on frame rate. If you do a lot of 4k60 an ND8 is good. At 24 that's an ND 16, maybe 32.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  Před 5 lety

      Very true! It’s pretty dark this time of year in Ohio so I’ve been using the lower ND filters. ND32 for 24 FPS in the summertime!

      @@keith-knittel - I live in the mountains and it can be sunny any season. In winter it can be worse, even though the sun is lower, it can reflect off of the snow on bluebird days. I really hope DJI improves the Timelapse option. I want raw vs jpg for the images in the timelapse folder. I voted on that option on the forums.

      @@rogerhuston8287 I agree! Raws for the timelapses would be awesome!

    I like the DJI Osmo Pocket, but I don't love it. I bought it as an accessory on a recent photo trip to Paris. It was great for carrying on the Métro and around the city. Great footage for not a bad price! Thanks for this informative video. Lots of good information that I'll reflect on in my photography CZcams Channel. Thx! 👍

      The Osmo Pocket is a great supplemental camera for when you don’t want to break out your big camera, but still want to get a shot. It’s an amazing travel camera! Thanks for watching!

    Two tips for sound
    1. Point the screen at the object you are recording. The mic is below the screen and set up for vlogging.
    2. Put a small dead cat over the main mic. The mic on the bottom of the pocket is for noise cancelling
