The new ownership gets 40% but it’s 40% of the 70 some % that the Angelos own. So the new ownership does become majority owner right away. They’ll just get the other 30 some % after Peter passes.
as a longtime O's fan, I am happyto see the direction the O's are heading
It's worth noting that Sig Mejdal, the assistant GM who came with Elias from Houston, also does a ton to help with player scouting and development. Elias deserves all the praise he's getting and more, but you don't hear much about Mejdal and he's a brilliant baseball mind as well.
Sig is the data science wizard. Elias would be much worse without himm
His knowledge of the numbers is unparalleled.

and he turned down GM positions of his own to stay with Elias/the Orioles.

If there's one thing I can give Peter Angelos credit for, it was that he was the one owner against the 94 strike and the one owner who refused to use replacement players. While that was partially due to wanting to preserve Cal Ripkens games played streak, his past as a labor lawyer also probably helped that.
Probably the ONLY good thing he did
He had to appose it he was a labore attorney. If he crossed the picket line that part of his law practice would be worth zero. He would have to sell his practice or fire all his labor attorneys.
The one thing that can be said about Peter is he did try in terms of spending money for a while. The problem was he never spent the money wisely enough to get people who knew what they were doing around him.
John, however, was a complete idiot in every form of the word
Friend in NY is a die hard Yankees fan. He KNOWS the Orioles have at least a decade of good baseball coming and he’s actually loving it. It’s all about love of the game itself.

Absolutely! Thinking about the O’s extending players, is such a weird thought to me lol. But now, it’l hopefully become a frequent thing. I’ve seen people comparing them to the Astros, and I think thats the best comparison.
They have core players. But it’s time to build around these young guys! It’s time to sign a star pitcher! While I find it unlikely, IF they came out hot signing pitching.. imagine that, plus Holliday on that roster in 2024. Nastyyyyy
Extremely happy with this news! I am tired of hearing how the Orioles need to go out and sign an "Ace" like Kyle Bradish didn't just pitch to below a 3.0 ERA and ended up 4th in Cy Young voting. Grayson came back after a small stint in AAA and looked dominate. Round it out with Means returning fully healthy, Tyler Wells (lead the league in WHIP in the first half of the season) returning with a full tank, and Dean Kremer giving you 5-6 solid innings every time he steps on the mound. I'm not too worried about our pitching. All I'd like to see new ownership do is throw some good contracts at the young starts like Adley and Gunner before their rookie contracts expire and they demand huge sums of money.
Yes, but adding an Ace would certainly help us in the playoffs. But I agree singing Adley, Gunnar and Holiday long term should be a bigger priority

I hope so but it’s a longshot to become a Dynasty. Look at Houston’s dynasty ,they got so lucky that a 5,5 second baseman that signed for $10,000 became a first ballot HOF and a top 3 postseason hitter of all time. Most of their original core is now gone and every player they graduated performed the same if not better. Good scouting yes but TONS of luck. 2 dynasty’s in 2 decades would be unprecedented.

Mike Elias did not inherit Kyle Bradish from the previous regime. Bradish was acquired in the Dylan Bundy trade with the Angels in December of 2019, which was about a year after Elias took over as Oriole GM.
As a lifelong orioles fan, that has been through hell. I’m also a penguins/steelers fan so I’ve experienced some really great success with the teams I’ve loved. But I’ve always been an O’s fan. I have never been more excited about sports in my entire life compared to now. It almost makes me wanna cry. But when our core gets signed to longterm deals that’s when I will truly cry. But….if we win the World Series at anytime with these guys I will completely bawl and idc what people think about that.

I don't know about a dynasty but they could be the next stros. There window of winning is for the next 5 years easy
But same time the oriole way is trading them away when they are at a high value and get prospects. Hopefully with this owner group they start paying some of these young talented players they have and eventually will be free agents
Smartest thing to do is lock them all up for like 5-8 years for a bargain like the braves

I love the direction the team’s going in. Trading away the vets and rebuilding the farm clearly paid off. As far as the offseason, I think it signifies a few things.
#1, its not the same Mets. They have a strategy. This offseason, they were never gonna break the bank. They wanted to BUILD the team, and I respect that.
#2, upgrade the roster! Bringing in Sevy could turn out to be real nice. Manea is a great addition. The rotation got better in terms of depth, which was a big issue last year! They have pieces to be better, and they certainly will.
Of course on a contention level, not quite there yet. But a breakout year for Alvarez sounds very realistic in 2023, and players like Sevy, and Bader could potentially “revitalize themselves”. I could see some of them getting flipped for prospects (depending on where they are”, and I could see others being apart of that future. I’m ready for the Mets this year man! Cant get much worse than last years letdown

Few months for paperwork after approved by owners so don't expect anything this off-season. Big news could be them locking down Rutschman during season before even giving him chance to hit arbitration and also a lot more willingness to go get someone at tradeline knowing they have finances to strongly compete signing them long term instead of only renting.

They have a great team as it is, and are only going to get better with some of the prospects they have in their minor league system. Glad I have the orioles to root for since the White Sox (childhood favorite) and the Rockies (transplant favorite along with the Byrds) really suck!!
As a life long O’s fan this is all I wanted cause we were sick and tired of the Angelo’s family BS of not knowing how to operate this team now that there are new owners I want to see some investment in this ball club to get us to where we want to be someday as WS champions

The best thing an team owner can do is to hire all the right people, and get the hell out of their way so they can work their magic. Peter Angelos couldn't bring himself to do that, and his idiot son John was 100x worse. Getting rid of the voice of the Orioles (John Miller) was bad enough, but then turning around and suspending the new great (Kevin Brown) was an all time low for him. The best thing they can do is bow out and be gone from baseball. There is a reason they are known as the worst owners in all the majors. Having Ripken back involved in the team is huge! The new ownership group is going to do great things, and I can't wait to watch it all!

Bradish was, but Bautista was a minor league free agent signing back in 2016

“Angelos family is worth billions”. You realize 90% of that worth is not liquid and it’s from their ownership of the club. If you have 10k in the bank and you own a 400k home free and clear your worth is 410k but you only have 10k to spend on stuff (you could use equity to get cash in a mortgage but that’s different than owning a club)

C'mon, a new owner first of all has to get their money back on the purchase...they won't be spending much extra cash over the next five years, especially since it is also a corporation in charge now.
