  • The Orioles were in the depths of Baseball Hell just 2 years ago, but they had the underlying pieces to be the best team in the league in 2023. This is how they pulled off their incredible rebuild.

Being both an Orioles fan and optimistic about the future is such a foreign feeling. Feels amazing to see all the Os fans start coming out of the woodwork again. Although I'll miss the $4 tickets, seeing Camden Yards full is more than worth it.

I've been an Oriole fan since 1970. 1971, 1979 and 1983 trips to the World Series the last being another WS win. Not bad to see 4 WS appearances in 13 years. Fast forward to 2001 I watched Cal Ripken circle the stadium to say goodbye. The bad years were hard to watch. I'd peek in at a box score or look at the standing and wince. In 2021 I started hearing the buzz about young players coming up. I felt there was a whole new level of energy and I liked these kids. In 2022 I was feeling these guys may be ready sooner than people think. In 2023 I signed up for MLB TV because I really felt I was going to get a treat. Aside from the 101 wins we had the Mr. Splash section and all the antics in the dugout with sprinklers and homer hoses. I felt younger again. Now they are back at the big boys table in the WS chatter. Go Birds.

Mike Elias, GM of the current regime, deservedly receives a great deal of credit for the Orioles' success of the last couple of years. Most
of all he deserves credit for building up their farm system to be the best in baseball. However, his predecessor, Dan
Duquette, drafted or acquired and partially developed a number of major contributors to the Orioles such as Austin Hays, Ryan
Mountcastle, Cedric Mullens, Anthony Santander, and Felix Bautista

Let's see if their new ownership is willing to spend the money. It's not easy because you have to be smart about how you spend but if you're not spending at all, that's a slap in the face to the fans who pay their hard earned money to see your team play. You're getting that money back with fans coming to your games.

The biggest move of all was getting new ownership. They just went from an owner who couldn't care less about the team, the fans or the city with shallow pockets to an insanely wealthy group of people who love Baltimore. The Angelos family is worth about $2 billion while the new ownership group is worth over $100 billion. Safe to say money won't be an issue anymore. Should be fun to watch this team grow knowing they have the money to keep all of them together long term.

There aren't many teams that have been able to turn the ship around that fast without going out and buying a bunch of free agents. They've hit it big on their high draft picks (which isn't always a guarantee) and deeper in the draft also. I expect them to have an Astros-style/Braves-style run in the next 5-10 years.
