I have recently acquired a few interesting bits ands bobs that I will feature at some point on the channel and I though I'd do a little video about what to expect. hopefully this will also motivate me to getting some of these projects done!

Very interesting Matt.. It's a long time since I've seen a ZX Spectrum and forgotten how small they were. Lovely to see the RS components mounted on cards.. When I started fiddling with electronics I seemed to live in RS Components shop in Plymouth and remember well the card mounted carbon resistors and variety of capacitors. I rated the Marshall Valvestate 80 and used on for band practice where I'd often get the comment that it sounded better than my JTM-60 ..

@@MatthewNorthMusic Yes indeed, I've been there, but sadly they don't have the range of stock that the old city centre shop did. They're based at an Estover industrial estate which is not the easiest places to find. Maplins in Plymouth were also a great place where you could go and buy 'one' resistor and the staff were quite knowledgeable as well. The revamped Maplins is nowhere near as good.

Hi Matthew! I would definitely recommend getting a modern psu for the speccy. Sinclair's psus were made to a budget and don't have a great reputation especially after all this time.

Well I'm sure a recap wouldn't go a miss will test it properly first though

2:20 Techmoan covered those record mechanisms. They're a a $10 module, the angled lever for lifting up the stylus is a dead giveaway. If you see that mechanism avoid: czcams.com/video/AXV8tXrPOR4/video.html

I know hence how I knew they were based on BSR still be a bit of fun to mess about with

@@MatthewNorthMusic Not sure what you could do with them really. At least there are decent record mechanisms around still unlike cassette recorders which are all hopeless now (luckily I have a twin deck from Sony with Dolby S I got for about £50 a few years ago). It's getting to the point where CD players will start to vanish and they're not simple things to repair if there's a major issue. Having tried to repair a two Sony Minidisc recorders I can see those disappearing too, in the end I bought a professional Tascam MD recorder which just needed a new rotary encoder to fix it and that works great.
