Now I feel enough brave to do it by my self ! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks a lot! I'm rebuilding my CV joint on my T2b. I'm ready to do it correctly now. ;)
Hi John, I am glad that I found your Video, because I didn‘t know that I have to care about the way to reinstall them. Thanks Ralph
You are welcome, and thanks for the comment 😀
good information, i'm rebuilding my axles and this answered all my questions. thanks John!
Thanks for the comment, Steve. Glad you found the video usefull 😀
Went together like clockwork!
Great, simple explanation and instruction. To the point. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Very nice explanation... 👍🏼
Damn, your the best John. 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Nice, learned a lot!
I think going from 14" to 16" wheels on the Vanagon, this step is important when rebuilding cv joints. I've done several and they seem to not last, as perhaps the larger wheel/tire size introduces a steeper angle on the shaft creating stress on the joints. Thanks for this revelation👍
Changing the Wheelsize has nothing to do with driveshaft angle. Think about it another time 😊
Thank you so much for the info.
Great vid john and good to hear BW confirm it, my cv joints have a gasket on the outside, maybe that is just the 16" version?
I have just overhauled & Reinstalled the CV joints for my Holden Commodores rear axle shafts but since the outer CV joints are a non plunging type & the inner CV joints are a plunging type they didn't need to be clocked but 3 out of 4 CV joints were fitted back to front so I had to refit them the right way !
Excellent 👍
learn from you regarding CV clocking....thanks
Thank you!
Thanks !!!
That's good because they say that CV joint clocking isn't critical in a street car but I have been wondering why I have been going through the inner CV joints in my Holden Commodore,I haven't been clocking them !
Thank you, very much! I don`t know that and I think many "mechanics" do it completely wrong! I will do restoration on my VW Golf Mk2 soon and I rebuild everything myself, because I see "work of mechanics" after they "repair" and in Latvia we have big problems with mechanics. My VW Golf of 1983 live because I do all jobs mostly myself. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment, glad you found it useful 😀👍
@@Italjohn Yes, it is very very useful! I can tell my story. Here in Latvia we have very bad roads, because of poor EU country and roads are destroyed in 6-8 years (econony on the expensive ingredients and not proper technology). New road - perfect is bad after short period of time. Everywhere is holes on the road surfaces and we have disaster situation in many directions (last year very many roads New ones!) was destroyed by absolutely improper surface treating with small stones and some kind of "glue"... This "glue" and stones fly away and I get 22 holes in my cars body! It is something... and "country roads" which are simple roads without asphalt are destroyed by the hard machines which transport wood bricks... In this situation my old vehicle is going bad very quickly. "My friend mechanic" sometimes do small jobs for me, when I don`t want to. But... after he 1 year ago change CV axes (wrongly) I get the same "problem"... ticking on the left turn... Your video open my eyes. Thanks!
Thank you 😊
You're welcome sir 😊
Ohh brickwork fail ! Only heard good thing's 😮 will check there gear thoroughly 👌
I watched 2 of your video and learned some new stuff thanks so if it's clocked good how many degrees do you gain
I have no idea, sorry
Great video. What happens if the axles aren’t clocked correctly?
You will limit the travel in the joints
Very good video john, what is the purpose from clocking the cv joint ?
Hi there. If you clock your joints you will get a slighty more suspension travel before they binds.
Oh I see now thank you very much john.
Hi there. What would happen if the axel was not “clocked”? Thanks.
I could limit the travel distance of the cv joints. Especially if you are off roading and need all the travel you could get.
Like it
Thank you 😊
2:11 the manual says to use a hydraulic press ( because it’s a tight fit ) . Why are you able to remove it that easy ? Is it because its a different design or are all like this ( also stock ones ) your answer will be appreciated!
Some are hard to get off, and some are easy. I think (don't know) the high quality ones are harder to get off. This was the cheapest axle I could find at brickwerks, so I guess you get what you pay for. I just want this in the car for spare/emergency use.
Italjohn13 will be good for emergency use . I love brickwerks as it gives you a huge variety of parts (and qualities) . I always get original and OEM as I had a bad experience with aftermarket parts ( at the end it was always more expensive than just getting the genuine part )
I had to use a hydraulic press as the 38 year old axles were very tight on the joints!
Just did this on my T2 baywindow joints.. Does it matter what side facing the wheel and the Gearbox?
No not really. But some say it's important to put them back the same way you took them out. If they are brand new it does't matter wich way you put them.
@@Italjohn well. I guess that putting it back as it was ship has sailed. 😂
I was more interested if the wide side or the narrow side should be at the wheel or the gearbox.. Thanks for your reply.. Greetings from Sweden.
@@pierrej8069 Both sides of the axels are buildt the same way, you just need to get the "ring" on the cw joint on the outside. Regarding the same way as you took them out has to do with the twisting of the axsel rod. If you flip them around the twist will be the other way and that could weeken the steel rod.
@@Italjohn yeah.. I have the one and only ring on the outsides.. Just about to grease them up.. Thanks. 👍🏼
Did they come built incorrectly from Brickwerks?
Yes they did.
John, did you ever know Stein Thorvall?
Hi John. Sorry for the late reply. No, I don't know anyone with the name Stein Thorvall
Hi John if they are fitted correctly what whould happed on the car?
@@vndlela1564 I could limit the travel distance of the cv joints. Especially if you are off roading and need all the travel you could get.
Who put that together the wrong way around?? Did you buy it like that?
Yes, it was like this when I got it from www.brickwerks.co.uk
Italjohn13 - they’re usually very good! Have you been in touch with them since?
I would never have known it was the wrong way
I will send them the video link. I will post the answer here.
@@c7uk Got an aswer from BW, they will show this clip to their supplier. He also says that this has happened before as well. Hopefully this will improve the quality in the future.
Comfer ??? I think you are meaning to say chamfered edge. CHAM--FER.
Sorry for my bad English, I'm still learning to pronounse
@@Italjohn No problem at all!
