    For anyone out there sturggling with pushing the bushings out and worried about bending the arm like he did, if you have access to an acetalene torch, i was able to just burn the bushings out in about 3 minutes each, and it seemed to be much easirler than pushing. Thanks for the vid, really helped me figure out where I needed to start.

      Good tip! Glad I could get this out there so people at least had a frame of reference!
      I don't have a torch currently but it's on my ever growing workshop list 😂

    I would recommend renting/borrowing the proper press tool in the future, it would make the job easier, but kudos to you for getting the job done with what you had. Thank you for sharing. I have a 1992 that needs the same job and you gave me some insight on what I will be dealing with. I might just end up having it done at my friends shop.

      Yeah I agree, bushing press tool would've made this much easier 😂. You can also buy the complete upper arms and R&R them in about an hour or two probably.

    The torsion bar has a missing slot so it can only go one oneway. Its also easyer to just buy the whole top arm.

      Yeah I agree, if this needs to be replaced a second time, I'm just going the arms lol

    Great video dude! I’ve got a 93 also that I’m about to do a bushing kit on. Got mine from LCE Performance.

      @motor.mausGarage  Pƙed rokem +1

      Thanks man! I think those LCE bushings are way easier, I should've just done those 😂

      @@motor.mausGarage do you think you could press the bushings in with a C clamp or one of those ball joint clamps you can get at the auto parts store?

    • @motor.mausGarage
      @motor.mausGarage  Pƙed rokem

      The LCE poly bushings, probably. If they are OEM style, no chance in hell 😂. There is a bushing tool that looks like a C clamp, and that's what I should've used in all honesty. Can usually pick em up at harbor freight for around 30 bucks.

    Sweet build, specially with the roof rack, i have a hard time finding anyplace that make em for the 2nd gen and really want one for my 90 4runner

      Thanks! I've got some more plans for it in the future and would like to bring more of it on the channel.
      Gotta go with Sherpa Equipment Co.! Their Matterhorn rack says it's for the 3rd Gen, but will also fit the 2nd Gen if you have the factory roof rails, that's what's on mine (not sponsored 😂).

      That's the way to go! Can probably find a set for next to nothing in a junk yard tbh 😂

    I see you like to go in raw 😂 try a lil grease next time. it'll make your life so much easier. You can also put bushings or bearings in the freezer for a while and press while they're still cold. It'll shrink and decrease the diameter ever so slightly, making for an easier press.

    • @motor.mausGarage
      @motor.mausGarage  Pƙed rokem +1

      Yeah definitely should've tried the freezer idea. I'm not sure why I didn't use grease tbh I usually do 😂.
      Hopefully there's not going to be a next time for at least a few more years 😂😂😂

      @@motor.mausGarage Fingers crossed! I appreciate the walkthrough though. There hasn't been a lot on the 2nd gen IFS and I've been a little scared to mess with the torsion bars.

    • @motor.mausGarage
      @motor.mausGarage  Pƙed rokem

      Yeah there really isn't much out there for 2nd gens in general, which is why I wanted to make a video on it. Torsion bars aren't too bad. I would definitely get a new torsion bar tensioner bolt and nut though.
      My 2nd gen has been a desert car it's whole life so I got lucky, but a lot of people say they get rusted out 😂

  • @Zage55
    @Zage55 Pƙed rokem +1

    so wait you had to remove the torsion bar first???
    😅im such an idiot just replaced the upper control arm last week and i couldnt get the torsion bar bolt tight with an impact and it left the truck lowered on one side now i know thanks

    • @motor.mausGarage
      @motor.mausGarage  Pƙed rokem

      Yeah this suspension threw me off at first too. Didn't really get a feel for it until I swapped to OME torsion bars 😂

      @@motor.mausGarage I found this video because I was searching for one about how to replace a first gen upper control arm and that content is hard to find. But mine looks just like yours so I think your video will still work.
      My question is, and forgive me, I am a beginner, but to replace the whole arm I just have to loosen the torsion bar, remove the 3 bolts, seperate the knuckle from the ball joint (I'm gonna use a control arm with a new ball joint already installed) and swap the new one in and reattach everything?
      And I dont have to worry about taking any elements of the arm itself apart? Cuz it seems like that's what you were struggling with. Taking the old one out and putting in a new one should be easy?

    • @motor.mausGarage
      @motor.mausGarage  Pƙed rokem +1

      Yep! Should be that simple. 1st gen is also the same upper control arm set-up so it should be exactly the same minus all the bushing nonsense I was doing 😂

      @@motor.mausGarage Oh thank goodness! That makes me feel so much better! Because after watching all that I was like "no". Thanks for making this video. It's really not easy to find videos on the older models and the newer ones are not all that similar.
