Yeah. It would be great a wet sanding, orange peel removal on HARD clear coat... Like those of chevrolet 2017. I believe Orange peel removal is the highest detail level.
First!! I love wetsanding. I think I'm going to wetsand my whole truck before I polish and ceramic coat it. Did some test spots. Anywhere I had sanded came out so much more clear and sharp

Jason Ifill hey man I got my paint color matched at paint scratch .com. Check the code in our door or glove box. I used a brass Ink dropper like Larry from ammo uses. Ps I did end up sanding the whole car and doing a three stage polish and ceramic coating after and it came out fantastic.

Good point to bring up that 5000 and polishing will still continue to cut. Some thing beginners can think about and test when practicing. Nice vid brian!
After a while...you can get it just right and cut the perfect amount of clear to remove the defect by the time you are through polishing and finishing.

About stained cars i have to say,about half of those cars with etched clear look great after wet sanding and polishing, but later those spots start to slowly appear again. I do those cars same way you did in this video, but unfortunately in some cases it just doesn't work. I wonder if anyone else had that problem,maybe it's our hard water and very hot climate?!
I’m still relatively new to this and agreed with your comment to get a few used junk panels to practice on. Just to be on the safe side until I think I can “read the clear coat”, I’ll measure first and make some rough calculations on the life of the clear. I have a BMW X3 with a top like the car you worked on ( admitted it’s not that bad). Most of the etching came from a previous owner. The hood was so bad and ugly I had it repainted. I’m thinking the worse case scenario is if I hack the top of the car I can have it repainted. The best case is I can save it. Excellent Video !! Don't know if you will read this but I'm a detailer in north Florida, where we have very acidic bird poop coupled with viscious heat, UV, and humidity. Consequently we see many etched roofs and hood panels where the etching is baked into the clear. No way will 3000 grit work unless you really sand into the clear, and I'm nervous about going down to 1,000 grit. Rather than go for complete etching elimination, what do you think of 70% etching reduction and creating a good layer of protection? Let me know your thoughts, if possible. Thanks- Jon

This was an awesome video and well planned. Thank you for sharing. I tried this method over very abrasive compounds and pads and got great results. Question. On a part of the car after sanding it looked dull and I could not see the imperfections but as I polished I saw some light imperfections. Any idea how to fix.

How do I know the difference between an acid burn in the clearcoat done by birds and a burn spot made by a machine? I feel that sometimes they look alike very much and if I wet sand a spot that is not from a bird but from someone that burned the paint I'm going to do worse. Thx
I looked at a newer silver Kia with what looked like etching from bird droppings but it looked like it was below the clear. I couldn't feel anything and even with my handheld light I couldn't see damage to the clear, it was strange. Have you ever seen anything like that before?

Great video! I have a 2018 Black Lexus who’s paint is in excellent shape but the prior own allowed for about 4-5 bug etchings on the front hood. Compounds will not remove them. Any recommendations? I’m considering spot wet sanding but I’m not experienced. Thanks
Is there a strong water 💦 spot product you can use 1st? That if it doesn’t remove most or any you can determine it has to be wet sanded in your experience...
Hi Brian, great video! What do you do about stains in single stage paint? I have a customer with a 1965 Pontiac Catalina. Original, single-stage. It has 7 or 8 small, dark stains on the hood, looks like some sort of liquid splashed on it and stained. The depth gauge was only showing 2.5-3.5mils. What would you do in this situation?
Since you are doing videos on buffing and sanding, could you do a video about "holograms" on how it accrues and how to fix them. I personally have not had those happen to me but would love to know what can causes it and how to get rid of them. Also would like a video on something else and I'll try my best to explain what it is. So I worked in a body shop for a few months before I was let go due to the painter quitting and forcing me to leave due to the next painter didn't want a preper. Well while I was was wet sanding with a da I would keep getting markets in the paint and the looked like little "c" and I have no idea what was causing them, I think the painter called them chicken something
I will put something together for holograms. As for the other problem....make sure to keep fresh water flowing over the panel while wet sanding to keep the pad perfectly clean. build up causes those marks.
Brian if I have a sealant on the car do I just go straight into it with the sanding or do I need to remove the sealant first? I would use distilled water for this correct?
My car is like 1 year old, it's a metallic black. Bird poop has caused some etching. Today I tried with a heat gun and put the temperature to 470 degrees Celsius and kept it for 2 minutes on the problematic spots, with 2 inches distance only. There was no effect ... 😂😂 I shall try use a 3000 grit sandpaper. I wanted to ask if high temperatures can cause something bad to the paint and clearcoat in the next months or so, i.e. on the 2 spots where I kept that heat gun on them or will it be fine just as it looks now?
Sir, what was the pad & small Flex polisher set-up for polishing the edges? Is this your technique, or is this an industry standard? I've never seen this before.
Speaking of the clear coat, I want to Iron X my car before I clay bar it. Do I have enough clear coat ?? Don't want to thin the clear coat out? The car is a 2014 Nissan Sentra. I keep it well maintained it looks new.. I no your working on a clear coat chart. Thanks, Brian.

What situation would you use a closed cell polishing pad insted of a open cell pad ? And vice versa
Closed cell can be a bit more aggressive.. Hard clear is where I break them out.
I figure at the end of the day,the Trizact is the best disc to use.

That car was very well polished, I wonder why it wasn't properly protected to get those stains
The stains came from hot tar, unfortunately. had a decent sealant on it but not much stands up to hot road tar.

These were from hot tar. But if you come across hard water deposits...it is worth the try.

Great video, do you decide to wet sanding when you don't remove this stain after wash and clay the car or you decide this way about you experience?
If you use a bright shop light ...you will be able to see the defect well below the clear's surface.You can feel it as well.
