How do you keep a car as commonplace as the Ford Fiesta exciting? Well, a slick body kit and an engine with more power per litre than a Bugatti Veyron is probably a good start.
Aiming to ape the same thrills as the full-fat Fiesta ST hot hatch, albeit with lower costs and a bit more sensibility, there's no denying that the Red Edition certainly looks the part, so what's it like to drive?

I've wanted one for years and now I have one thanks to my very kind wife!! Pure bliss and fun to drive!
nice review. Just ordered the black edition. can't wait to get it!! all round good car.
Great review, getting mine soon!
Thanks to you guys and rest of the CZcams community, I ended up getting one for myself. Had it for 2 months now and absolutely love it. Running costs are cheap, it's really nippy and the lowered suspension with 17" Continental tyres is a deadly combo for a pride ride 😆. Cheers guys and keep up the good work 👍 😉
This was my first fiesta, loved it!!!
Got a ST200 now love that more though!😆
Posting update ........ having got some miles under my belt now on urban and motorway i can report i am still smiling and still having lots of fun . ...Why would anyone want to spend another £7,000 just to get a badge that says ST. my seats are comfier and more practical anyway. Good mpg all round . GET ONE
Just bought one today! Thanks for your help I can't wait till the 17th when I can pick it up
What sort of mpg were you getting? How do you find it on the motorway?
getting the black in 2 weeks. extremely nice piece of kit
Getting one next week, but it's the black edition 65 plate! Very excited
Definately would be driving this car if I could! Looks fun to drive.
Got the black edition 3 days ago WITHOUT a test drive , i always know what a fiesta will give me ! 140 bhp from a 1 litre .HOW ?
It looks fast is fast and you can feel it push you into your seat as you accelerate. When you first get one i would recommend you give a good gap to the car in front if you are in slow moving traffic you might launch your self into somebody.. Went VERY fast up a long local steep road without intending too. I am constantly checking my speed because you don't just drive the car you become part of it and it is possible for you to get a bit carried away. Only 2 minor niggles the radio panel looks broken when its off and the mirror switch looks breakable but then how often do you alter your mirrors once set up. I am 60 and now i know why boy racers half my age ware silly grins.
Its really not that fast. You're making people think they're getting a supercar. I had the ST and I never nearly launched into the back of someone...
keith norton thanks for the info keith, ive just bought one today without a test drive so its great to have a bit of advice, as for the smart arse comment above, when you've been driving a shitty corsa, tapping on the pedal of a new/faster car can give you a bit of a shock. I did it in my boyfriends car and nearly went up the arse of the car infront of me because your not used to being so light on the pedal 👍🏻
Bethan Leigh Clarke I also had a shitty corsa, but never have I ever nearly ended up in the back of someone by tapping the pedal, if you're doing that then quite frankly you shouldn't be driving. I also ride a motorbike that is quicker than most supercars and I've never nearly ended up in the back of someone.
keith norton good for you im very happy for you. I think youve took mine and keiths comment out of context completely. Im switching from a 75bhp car to 140bhp there is without a doubt going to be difference in the pedals. Even the dealership joked with me about it.
@@ridingwithsam I think it feels faster than what it is if your used to being in a slow car but you right it isn’t ridiculously fast especially when you get used to the power
To be fair, this infotainment system is super easy to use, thanks to those buttons that every car reviewer hates. I won one and I really find it easy and quick to turn on or off whatever i need + there are voice commands which work quick as well.
I had a 140 Ecoboost fiesta and it was such a great car, but I have to admit going from that to an ST, the ST drives so much better but for the money, the ecoboost is still great
I would love one of these!
Absolutely awesome drive ........ So good I just had to buy one !
+Andy Mowforth Good choice! Hope you enjoy it!
Getting mine in a month or two👌🏻🔥
Got one and wouldnt be without it Top Fiesta!!
Just bought myself one today and the pull compared to a city car doing 60BHP is massive and far more satisfying, can't wait to pick it up next week.
Hope you enjoy it!
Yeah coming from a 75 bhp 1.2 16V Clio, I was pleasantly surprised myself how potent this 1.0 Litre 140 bhp 3 Cylinder is. Not only does it pull hard but it's very quiet too. A true engineering feat in my opinion. Who needs a 16V 4 Cylinder car anymore lol 😆😉
Daniel Lloyd these comments are getting me sooooo excited to pick mine up!
Bethan Leigh Clarke I'm happy to say I have'nt looked back since getting it, great looking car and in my eyes better than the new fiesta coming this year.
Bethan Leigh Clarke Your certainly won't be disappointed I can assure that. Daniel Lloyd is absolutely right 😉
picking mine up saturday, can't fucking waittt. gorgeous little beast it is
Ooo... Be sure to let us know what you think of it :)
Stunning car, I have the zetec model great car to drive
Bought mine today 😜❤
Bethan Leigh Clarke how’s it now ? Got Any pics on IG ?
Great review. I'm looking at getting a used Black Edition as a 2nd car. I drive a 2015 Mini JCW and I love it, but the boot is so small that it's just not practical for long journeys. The Fiesta wouldn't be as quick, but when going away for the weekend, it would be far more practical for carrying luggage, and 140BHP from a 1.0 engine sounds good
Thanks for that Keith. I think I'll pop into a Ford dealer tomorrow and check one out!
Thanks to Keith's comment, I popped into a Ford dealer on Monday and took a Black Edition on a test drive. It's an ex demonstrator. More mileage than I'd ideally like (12,000), but I was seriously impressed by the performance of the 1.0 engine, that I put a deposit down. Not only is it the same colour scheme as my Mini (black with red roof), but it was registered on the same day. It's fate!
Considering one for my next car, or something very similar. I like my little Ford Ka Black Edition too much though, such a fun car especially for it's size
I recently bought one of these having had the 125BHP Fiesta Titanium for the last 2 years. The engine has very good acceleration and is good for cruising on the motorway, suprisingly quiet. My bugbear as with the Titanium is that 2nd gear is too high so at low revs there is a delay before the engine picks up, I don't like having to change into 1st gear to turn a sharp corner especially when it is on a hill but have found this necessary on some occasions.
I paid extra to bring the Fiesta Red up to what I thought was the same spec as my old Titanium, but was disappointed that the wing mirrors are not electrically folding, why not as they are electrically adjustable and heated!? Also being a 3 door car, I now have to leave more space to enable the large doors to open. I was advised by the dealer not to get the ST as I do a lot of long journies and they said the ST was not a long distance car with respect to comfort. I would sum this up by saying the Fiesta Red is a very good compromise between performance, ride, handling, economy and price. It is a pity that when you configure it, you can't have the spec or colour you want. I wanted blue and 5 doors at the right price. Ford say you can't!
Why are they not electrical folding? In Belgium they are according to the Ford website?
I would love to see myself in one of these!
I'm a grandmama who loves fun fab car performance and I am awaiting a Ford Fiesta Red Edition next month. I made a mistake in not doing my homework after my last Fiesta and ordered an EcoSport which really is a blot on Ford's good reputation.. so fortunately now, I have had a test drive and am allowed to swap the EcoSport for a special Red Edition Ecoboost Fiesta :))) ..oooh - so excited!!! (Read Jeremy Clarkson's enthusiastic review on the Red Edition Ecoboost)! PS I do long hauls to see the grandchildren and family up north in the UK and it was not pleasurable driving the EcoSport on motorways at all i.e. as compared with the smooth handling of my last 1.6 Ford Fiesta.
i have this car and theres a tiny burn hole in the back seat of it, any idea how to fix it??
Does anybody know if this car is also affected by the ecoboost engine recall after all the latest news regarding fords 1.0 litre and 1.6 litre ecoboost engines over heating and catching fire
whats roughly the farstest u can go in 5th gear before going over 300000 revs?
does anyone know what the instrumental playing in the background is called?
Get mine tomorrow
+Adam Harvey Hope you are enjoying it!
I want the black edition is what I want but the stereo really does put me off lol
difference between the st line and zetec s?
Does it have the exhaust tho…
In terms of ps per liter, the Seat Leon Cupra must be as powerful, having the twice the volume and twice the ps.
Having been tempted for some time, I went into my local dealer yesterday for a test drive. Lets just say, having owned a Nissan Pulsar GTIR and Daihatsu Charade GTTI, the Fiesta did not disappoint.
The salesman gave me the option of personal lease or finance, with both options at a very attractive price, also he told me the Sat Nav optional extra is £99 at the moment, until end of March and if the car is registered in February, Ford will take £500 of the rrp price. These deals are only available for finance option tho, not personal lease.
It's definitely a bit quicker to 60 than 9 seconds. The standard 125bhp version manages 9.1!
+101francis101 really? ah cant wait ahaha
I'm 18 and I've been looking for every sort of hatchback from a hyundai all the way up to bmw, other than the bmw 116I m sport I do think this ford would be right for me as it is a fun car. on the other Hand I drive long distance to work, so the bmw bmw 116 m sport is a lot better interior and drive. I am struggling a lot to chose, I do have another 7 week until I'll be buying one, hopefully I will make up my mind by then!
+Daniel Northcott ordered mine and it will be here by tuesday, out of curiosity, which one did you get?
i didn't look at Mercs, BMWs or Audis since even the base model exceeded my budget but i got an amazing deal from a friend at a dealership and he saved me 1700 pounds worth of equipment (satnav, parking sensors, spare wheel, tinted windows, foldable mirros and some other maintenance stuff)
+xxAlx Hope you enjoy it! One of our team members has just ordered one as well :)
xxAlx In the end I bought Vw polo GTI. You are right BMWs are pretty expensive, specially if you are young driver. That's a very good deal on equipment! I'm still determined to buy a more luxury German car, but when I'm a bit older. Matter of fact I've worked out it will take nearly 3 years to get an Audi s3, which I think is a fun but smart car.
I hate the low profile tires. The rims get damaged too easily
How much to insure for 17 year old?
Does this car have DAB digital radio? I bought one today but could only see FM/AM options.
+Protocol1978 It was optional at the time of release but if you buy one now it is included as standard. Hope that helps!
How much would this be
Lovely car to look at and nice to drive, always feels as if it wants you to put your foot down. That being said, I find the seats incredibly uncomfortable. The lumbar support feature is too much and feels as if someone is continually pressing their feet into the back of your seat. As a result I'd hate to do a long motorway run in this car. I also have to agree that the infotainment system needs updating. The radio, phone, aux buttons etc. are angled nicely towards the driver but doing something simple like changing radio station from a preset isn't easy because they are angled the opposite way to give a symmetrical look. It also generally feels dated and with something as simple as changing the display to be a. Bigger and b. Colourful i.e. not just the standard blue colour would really improve the interior of this car
+TH-93 because of a weak back i have a problem with ANY car seat ,,,,,, try this , wind the angle of the seat back a bit more than normal to make you lean back further and then re adjust the seat height so you can see properly. it works for me !
+keith norton thanks Keith I'll be sure to try this. I've started getting used to it a bit now
Is this a ST?
Good first car?
Yeah, great first car to own B.
I'm looking at one of these as a first car, I'll get it when I have passed my test, and I've looked up insurance, at about £1800 a year, with my mum and dad on the policy and me as the main driver, black box installed.. Would you say this is a good first car, for a 17 year old who's passions is cars?
Definitely a great first choice of car mate!
its in insurance group 12, fairly low but not as low as the standard fiesta. By all means go for it. I don't know where you got 1800 pounds from? You must live in a high class suburb to get that haha. Black box however might not be a great move, say if you're a car enthusiast like you say you are, than black box might not be a wise move especially because insurers like to take the piss at time and withdraw customers meaning you're no longer insured but be wary. The cars fantastic. I have one as a car I keep to drive around the area with as it its much more economical than the aventador and the range. I bought mine as an ex demo with little over 2000 miles on the clock and depreciated 5 grand off the asking price if you were to buy it and spec it new. I suggest you buy a used one incase you haven't bought it already, fantastic car and seriously underrated.
How reliable is the Ford Fiesta?
It had a negative score on reliability. The ST scored better.
would this be a good option for a 17 year old
+offroad2410 It's a great car (one of our team has just got one for himself) but it may be a little pricey too insure. How about one of these instead: www.carkeys.co.uk/guides/best-first-cars-for-a-newly-qualified-driver
+offroad2410 Also, if insurance is a concern, then check out this handy guide: www.carkeys.co.uk/guides/top-five-cars-in-the-lowest-insurance-group
rather get a used fiesta st and slap a mountune kit on it for the same price...time to save
63 mpg my ass. Mine gets 37.
I was getting 39 in my ST. Shift up!
XCaptainSmileyX mine does the same. I only drive around town though
Ahh someone help can't decide this car or the st! 🤔
Get the ST.
ST for sure, but this is one remarkable car, the st sits over 21 insurance groups higher however.
Getting one next week, but it's the black edition 65 plate! Very excited
