lol... Duki Tsunoda will be out of F1 at the end of this year. The only reason he is in F1 is Honda wanted a Japanese driver. It's a demand Honda makes every time they are in F1. Let's not forget the Albon to Williams experience. Daniel brings recent Red Bull knowledge and feel to AT, which Lawson doesn't. With all respect to Yuki, he's only driven an AT and follows the engineers. Daniel's bringing a fresh but very experienced set of eyes to help the engineers. I'd suggest that AT have written off this season and are going to use the rest of the races as an extended test session of some 24 season bits/concept to get (whatever that team is called)'s car up to speed quicker- no use waddling around the back of the field wasting budget. The same as Red Bull who have now moved their attentions to their 24 car, development time penalties haven't worked in this case. While AT can't win, RBR can't loose so why not. Plus if Lawson is with (whoever AT is next year) there is a reasonable chance it will be a better sorted car.
Bonus- best of all, we get to see DannyRic in Las Vegas. It DTS haven't scheduled that one already, phone calls should be made.

If Daniel performs in that tractor of a car then there's a chance he will be brought back up to the Senior team. the main reason riccardo is on and lawson in not, is that lawson doesn't have the experience, literally. usually rookies go through extensive pre season testing to get familiar with a whole new category of racing. lawson obviously can't do that if the team chooses to bring him on board mid season. that will make him worse than de vries for 2 or 3 races most likely, which defeats the purpose of mid season driver change - team clearly wants immediate result.

His mess involving KMag in Canada and Austria just stick out and that's already on top of him completing wrecking his Baku weekend. My guess is that Ricciardo is just a stock gap option until Lawson or Iwasa would be ready for an F1 drive. The truth is that Nyck was expected to outpace Yuki on experience alone. The fact that it’s even close is a failure for Nyck, and the amount of crashing and just bad drives he’s done sealed his fate. I think that Nyck was an attempt at giving Yuki an experienced teammate to learn from and that hasn’t happened. It was inevitable with how atrocious his performances and attitude have been regardless of how bad the car is.

Because of this they can really judge how good yuki is, yuki looks to have improved a lot since last year, but we cant be sure. Yes, he's made some bad mistakes and he's lost to his teammate more often than not, but he's also a rookie in an awful car and his now former bosses have way too high standards that aren't realistic in many cases. Besides, he's cleaned up his on track performance and had been putting some consistent finishes together. Nyck simply needed more time and it's beyond cruel that Horner and Marko weren't interested in giving him that time.

  • @apathynoises6456
    @apathynoises6456 Před 10 měsíci +1

I think what you missed is that the context has changed quite a bit from when AlphaTauri signed De Vries to now. Last year most people were unsure if Tsunoda is even good enough to continue getting a seat, so bringing in someone experienced like De Vries was seen as the safer option compared to Lawson.
This year Tsunoda has finished 8-2 ahead of De Vries. He's only got 2 points but he's also finished 11th three times and 12th once in a terrible car. So I don't really agree with what you said earlier - Tsunoda has absolutely destroyed him.
I think the reason Ricciardo comes in now is to assess both him and Tsunoda side by side. Sergio Perez is doing terribly - if it wasn't for the fact that Max is single handedly leading constructors on his own, you can bet Checo would already be getting dropped. This AlphaTauri duo is an audition to replace Perez next year

Of course we have to take into account that quali at Silverstone was slightly damp (at least for the first laps), but we also need to remember that Ricciardo didn't get tyre blankets, and he was out on a green track versus a fully rubbered-in one like on Saturday.

Liam Lawson has to be pissed right now and understandably so. Hes earned at least a shot at that seat, but because of De Vries and now Riccardo hes been passed over twice. Plus he hasnt even been given an FP1 outing or tyre test.

lets be honest, neither Perez or Ricciardo can touch Verstappen's halo. But I think it would be a very good redemption story if Danny can fight his way back into the senior redbull seat. Redbull can't stay head and shoulders above the competition forever. They will need a 2nd driver that can perform.

    Theory time.
Checo is struggling and they are looking for a replacement.
Tsunoda is yet to prove himself and I don’t believe is in a position where he’s able to be Maxs teammate.
Ricciardo I believe probably set competitive times during that tyre test and they now want to see his race craft in an environment they can easily access the data.
Ricciardo beats Tsunoda, the seat is his, Tsunoda out, in comes Iwasa and Lawson for the new rebrand.
Tsunoda beats Ricciardo, Checo stays, flirt with Norris for ‘25. Ricciardo goes back to test/reserve, Tsunoda stays at Alpha Tauri, incomes Lawson/Iwasa.
Tsunoda trounces Ricciardo, Tsunoda given a shot at Red Bull, Ricciardo reserve, Iwasa/Lawson Alpha Tauri

"A few tough years at McLaren" well, he was only there for 2 years, and that included a race win. And that wasn't even a lucky win. No weird retirements or safety car nonsese. The McLarens were just suited to the track that day, proven by Norris' P2. I also remember another race where, after a penalty, he made one of the greatest comebacks of all time. So those 2 years at McLaren weren't really all that bad. Hell after his Alpha Tauri experience this year I bet he will be longing for the McLaren. Especially with their recent form.

Danny can help develop the car in the right direction faster than Liam could. Yuki doesn’t have the experience to give feedback to engineers that help their 2024 campaign. Car development from the cockpit perspective is an underrated skill. The Aston Martin for example is where it is today in no small part due to Seb’s years with the team before retiring.

I'm sad for De Vries, but it's the right choice. They can see Perez failing, and if he doesn't pick up before the end of this season, they'll want to replace him next year. And with whom? I'd say, testing out the actual skill of Danny Ric right now, is very smart of them. Especially if they're not 100% sure of Perez anymore.

Idk, I think De Vries was always seen as disposable and used as a stop gap since I think RB doesn't seem to see something worthy in Lawson (if they did he probably would have already been on the F1 grid), Iwasa is still too soon for him to do the jump and Ricciardo was still on evaluating (or re-educating?) after Mclaren. So yeah maybe they were "yeah well, if he does good its fine, if he doesn't well, we should have some of our driver ready by that time, gg"

i don't get the "it's unfair" argument, he was given a lot of time for not even being a rbr academy driver and he obviously didn't improve and the fact tsunoda isn't destroying him in the points is only because there are no points after 10th place, which he just missed out on most of the time while de vries wasn't ever even near that position

  • @Roguescienceguy

I think he's a great driver but getting into F1 in the moment is really difficult and RB/AT have real issues when it comes to the 2nd drivers in their teams.
Also, Piastri just began to catch up to Norris, so not giving NDV a few more races to improve just as much, is a bit of an overreaction imo.
Then again, Red Bull needs S-tier drivers to be within a few tenths of Verstappen to effectively be his wingman, not A-tier ones like Perez or NDV if you give him some more time.

I assume Max is a big reason why they got Nick to begin with, it helps being Dutch and childhood friends with the face of their brand.
But they also decided to go with Nick for a secure pare of hands to help the team be consistent, now that Gasly switched to Alpine. So im 100% with this choice where they can now have Daniel in the sister team with no pressure and getting som time to get into the rhythm again, to then replace Perez next year with Daniel and get Liam into Alpha Tauri.
