This is the most dangerous way to do a long transfer. If the patient goes down sideways they will take both the caregiver and the patient to the ground. You need to use a gait belt or the back of the pants for center of gravity.
Are you a caregiver who is exhausted? The Inspired Caregiver book is helpful - it's for the health of the caregiver. I remember having to help my loved one in and out of the car. The wheelchair thrashed the back of my car. Caregiving isn't easy. We need to take care of ourselves. Great advice in this video, especially the help with the care of the caregivers' backs. Thank you for this video!
all these methods on youtube are unhelpful and assume the person can stand and walk on their own, often using an able bodied person to demonstrate the transfers. How do you move a person who can't stand up or sit up on their own anymore when a hoyer lift is the right thing to use but completely unavailable?
Thank you I was struggling to get my mam in a taxi with covid 19 you can't sit in the front seat so I suppose I better make sure to ask the driver to pull his seat forward for leg room and then he can adjust it afterwards I have been refused from taxi before because they didn't want the bother (coming out of a hospital he said ur better of waiting for a ramp wheelchair access one) next time will defo take their badge number, thanks this video helps
The arm rest of the wheel chair always hinder transfer esp for totally not able to stand patients. If the arm rest can be push behind then we can pull the wheel chair along side back door, let the patient sit in a basket, someone inside the car and outside the car can together lift the patient inside or to any location.

I’m having some health issues with my joints, but we had a family trip planned for New York City. This
I’m glad I watched this. I’m going to need to get a transport chair for a friend who can still stand up but whose walking has become very poor.
What if the person has 2 broken feet and cant stand or put pressure on them how do i get them in a vehicle thsts not a low vehicle either
Keiro your doing a great job for Japanese communitiy I commend your organization James I.Yamamoto Jr.
Thanks so much for this anxious about helping my grandmother in the morning.
Please do same video for SUV. Would you recommend a gait belt?
This does not talk about if the patient is overweight. My mother is 200 lbs and cannot maneuver herself into a sitting position.
