NORTH INDIAN DAL FRY/EASY RECIPE OF DAL FRY

  • Dal fry is a basic Indian dish made by cooking lentils with spices.
    This north indian dal fry is delicious, aromatic, healthy & the most comfort dish which can be enjoyed with plain regular rice, jeera rice,ghee rice, roti or with any kind of indian flatbreads.
    Prep time: 10 mins
    Cooking time: 35 mins
    Serves:5
    Cup measurement: 1 cup=250ml ;1/3 cup-80ml
    INGREDIENTS:-
    1)Toor dal/Arhar dal/Split pigeon peas-1/3 cup
    2)Moong dal/Petite yellow lentils-1/3 cup
    3)Onion(chopped)-1 medium
    4)Tomato(finely chopped)-1 medium
    5)Olive oil/Cooking oil-3 tbsps
    6)Salt-1 tsp/acc to taste
    7)Chilli pwd-1 tsp
    8)Turmeric pwd/Haldi-1/4 tsp
    9)Cumin pwd/Jeera pwd-1/2 tsp
    10)Spice pwd/Garam masala pwd-1/4 tsp
    11)Mustard seeds/Rai-1/2 tsp
    12)Onion(roughly chopped)-1/2 medium sized
    13)Ginger paste-1/2 tsp
    14)Garlic paste-1 tsp
    15)Green chillies(slit)-3
    16)Curry leaves-14-15
    17)Coriander leaves(finely chopped)-2 tbsps
    18)Asafoetida/Hing-optional
    TIPS:-
    1)When we will add in the cooked dal in the tadka ,we can add in 1 cup of water at this step if you like watery consistency.Usually dal fry tastes well if thicker in consistency.
    2)Adjust the salt & the spices acc to your taste.
    3)Do not blend the lentils,after boiling them.
    4)Please don't forget to wash your lentils.I have washed the lentils and have pat dry them(you need not pat dry it after washing,but can use it directly instead), but have just missed shooting that step.
