What's so extra nice about the horn concertos is that they were written for Mozart's friend Joseph Leutgeb whom he had known since childhood. And he even wrote the last one easier to play as his friend was getting on (the K412 numbered #1 but was left unfinished in 1791).
When i was a teenager,the horn fascinated me badly. And now is the same reaction. I am very happy not mention it s but Mozart. Thanks

.yes, it is hard to say anything but celestial.., and I am 60y an amateur horn player..(veterinarian for living ..haha) it is all sound, I can hear his horn even when he rest and orchestra takes the role.. He sounds beyond the real, but John Carminaro and Dale Clevenger found the same, so it's got to be something...

Does anyone know the horn Dennis used for these recordings? These are the recordings that were shrouded in political conflict that wasn't settled until 1976 if I remember correctly - it's a fascinating story that would make for a great 1-hour movie.

The hand position is incorrect,it isn't even Dennis Brain's horn. The instrument in the photo,is a 4 valve double horn. On this recording he played on an Alexander model 90.
Hasta donde yo se, la mano se introduce un la bocina más o menos, más abierta o cerrada según el sonido que se quiera obtener

Yes, they probably asked a struggling artist if he wanted to earn a few bucks, and he agreed to dress up and pose with a French horn. Asking what to do with his right hand, he was probably told "Just put it inside the horn. That's what the professionals do. Everyone will be convinced you really are a musician!".
So who is better? Leopold Mozart or Amadeus?
Obviously, they both are. Wolfgang was and is a superstar, but Leopold is something new to me. I also enjoy G.P. Telemann, and his concerto for hunting horn.
