I carried my now 9500$ Chanel classic flap in Eastern Europe, and as I was told and was proved right everyone assumed it was fake. When it was not. So when I got back I sold it. It’s gotten to the point where the copies are so good people aren’t buying the real thing and like you said, even if you do have the real one- nobody will ever know crossing you on the street etc.

I just have a funny story to share …. I was at the Chanel boutique and I set my $40 purse down on the counter , someone starts shouting at the sales associate that was helping me saying that if my purse in the counter was “New season” because they were interested in buying it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m starting to feel most people only buy purses because it’s “Chanel” without taking a step back and really buying things for what they are actually worth.

I totally agree with you! I always take a step back before buying items and I always discover that quite a lot of the times I prefer the design of some other brands (or even non-branded ones). So, no Chanels in my collection because I realized that I don’t really like their design. I think that many people will realize that they’d rather something else if they actually take the time to consider carefully cause I can’t imagine that Chanel suits EVERYONE’s style when everyone’s so different

      Hi. I agree & disagree.
I agree with wot u say 👍🏼 | Same time, I'd say that style, fashion, image....don't exist in a vacuum. Meaning...it shouldn't happen...but humans judge by apperance...& treat the person accordingly.
So even if ur dressed PURELY 😉 4 u...People will still form an opinion of u. Based on wot they see.
So I'd never want 2 wear an item that there were of sooooo many fakes of.
🤚🏼It'd bother me that some1 might look @ my item on me, assume it's fake...& actually believe that fakes ARE 😉 my taste level.
(😅🤨 I'm not paying £1,000+ for that dubious honour, lol.)
▪︎ I think the smart brands recognise this. So 'play' around with it. Eg: Gucci's "Guccy" bag. Or Moschino's "This is a very expensive jacket" - (Printed on the back of the jacket.)

Re: your Balmain story: I had a similar experience in the Cavalli boutique in Venice. In 2015 (or maybe 2016?) my husband and I were in Venice, and when we saw the Cavalli boutique, my husband thought I should go in, since so many of my party dresses were Cavallis. We started looking around. There was no one else in the store. We asked for a dressing room and were pointedly ignored. The ladies who worked there just continued chatting amongst themselves. I was dressed in a very low-key St. John Knits ivory trouser and jacket set (with matching shell), and a pretty pastel Hermes scarf around my neck to cover up any cleavage for churches (there are lots of pictures of me that day). What seemed to make me unworthy of their attention? I was in a wheelchair. Oh, well. We left, and I continued buying pretty Cavalli dresses at Saks Fifth Avenue. I have never set foot in a Cavalli boutique again, since the sight of someone in a wheelchair seems to render them invisible to Cavalli sales associates.

Hello Sophie! Been refreshing my page for the latest video! I am so glad Chanel has good preloved prices. It’s of course bad right now for resellers as the resale price isn’t as high but good for the rest of us who want a classic style at a lower price. Also definitely agree with the Bobby bag. Very boring and doesn’t seem like it will hold. For the Fendi bag I prefer the baguette bag! Looks very classic! As for jewellery I love the unique pieces and think jewellery is definitely something that should be unique and individual. I loved those earrings David got for you last Christmas I believe. Thanks for the video Sophie have a great week everyone ❤️

I completely agree with your comment that if you see something all over social media, it kind of feels like you already own it in a way (probably because you see it as much as you would if you actually owned it), & then why would you bother buying something when it feels like you already own it? There are a lot of bags I see in the boutiques & I absolutely love them, but why buy one if I can just look at pictures any time I want?
Maybe it’s because trendy anything just isn’t my style, maybe it’s because I already have more than enough of my own so I’m happy to admire everyone else’s from afar. Maybe it’s because I know brands are going to come out with something just as beautiful next season (& every season after that), so why be in a hurry to purchase anything? Who knows?🤷🏼‍♀️

I followed your advice and looked on the preloved market and got a beige Claire Chanel jumbo- my unicorn bag- for myself for Christmas and I’m so glad I made the decision to buy preloved! It looks brand new and I paid nearly half of what a new bag is. I’m so glad I didn’t force myself to save more and purchase new.

The Balmain story is mind-blowing because only someone in their first week on the job would get it 4 sizes wrong. Probably wanted to say 36 and said 46 instead. The difference is so visible even if someone is terrible with numbers or not familiar with French sizing. Unbelievably unprofessional but consistent with the rest of their behaviour, chatting to themselves etc. Thanks for sharing

I love Hermes Birkin but I do not play the game, my husband was told they would not sell me a bag because I only wanted the handbags and nothing else from the brand, which is true. Totally get what you’re saying- but even though the Jumbo Classic Flap is massively overpriced. I would still buy it new from the boutique as; 1. I don’t want to get ripped off and sent a fake bag by buying preloved and 2. When I think about the jumbo monetary wise it is not worth it, however it is worth it to me as I know I love the style so much I would wear the bag for a lifetime. Bought it for current price brand new in 2022! Yes it’s costly but I don’t regret it! I take good care of my bags and I feel better knowing any scratch or stuff was done by me. It would still be expensive preloved and depending on all the flaws, idk if that would just bother me!

The weight on the bracelets are substantially heavier than any custom price of jewelry I have ever seen. @@rockermystic yes the durability is the value. I agree on the fakes. Plus even of others don't know, you do know it's fake and of the criminal groups you support...not worth it. Plus the humiliation if someone discovers it's fake? uh oh!

So right! Thank you for this video!
I have exactly the same opinion on these items. Especially the problem of social media that devalued luxury. And the quality is getting worse and worse!
I have luxury items but i feel like wear them it’s not classy anymore! Seeing all kind of people having the same things (and may be not the nicest people / influencers) makes me feel like uuugh i better by something niche, good quality and unknown.
I don’t know about hermes, i wanted to by my kelly for years but is it actually fashionable today?… it’s a big question for me. Is it worth to buy something with same social media issue? Even 10 years ago i could impress someone by having it, not sure if it has the same perception in our days. Social media helped and ruined our society. By the way the new chanel19 bag is made so cheaply inside and the leather is already scratched when they show you the item (it’s so sad, because the model is beautiful, i really like it, but to expensive for what it is). In terms of « value - quality » hermes wins.

Fendi has never made a better bag than the Baguette. 🥖 I like the Peekaboo and many of the new bags, but the Baguette has transcended It-Bag status and has become a tried and true classic. I think of it the same way I think of the Chanel Flap. It will always be collectible, it will always be chic, Fendi will always sell some iteration of it, and wearing it will never “date” your outfit. In fact, I reach for my vintage Baguettes more than my new designer bags. They garner so many compliments and they always make other women smile, as everyone immediately thinks of Sex and the City. If I were you - I’d look for a fabulous vintage Baguette, in pristine condition. There are so many unique ones out there (exotics, intricate beading, unusual colorways) and most of them can be had for around $1,200 or so. I purchased an embroidered + lizard Baguette from The Real Real last month! 💖

I actually like the look of the Bobby, but I am saving for the Celine Box which is too similar, and more classic imho. The Celine has also been holding a pretty good resale value, when compared to Dior in general. When I do invest in another Dior bag, it will be a Lady Dior and nothing else!

I just had a custom made diamond necklace and earrings jewelry designed. Compared to Tiffany pricing, it was cheaper but still very costly if you go with a higher quality diamond color and clarity.
On the fence about VCA Alhambra. I’ve seen some very close dupes (costume) on Etsy which makes them lose their unique appeal. I love the lariat style necklace that Kate Middleton wears. I’m rather smitten with Blvgari serpenti collection instead.

That’s the thing about being an individual who knows their style as well as their lifestyle. In this current luxury atmosphere where FOMO abounds you need to know the type of person you are. I have ALWAYS been a jewelry person so from a young girl I would always request jewelry for gifts & always loved playing in my jewelry box after school & on weekends. I have the typical “basic” Cartier & VCA bracelet which I never take off & pair with sentimental cord bracelets and crystal stones. Cost per wear for me is super low on these for me. As much as I am also a handbag person 9 handbags in I am at purse-peace. I have one Chanel bag which is a 2.55, no Hermes since I have zero interest in their items. But I have Dior, Fendi, Gucci, BV & Prada, YSL, Celine & Loweve in my collection because in terms of bags, I want variety so colors & shapes are important in my decision. So as much as designer jewelry may not be worth it so are designer handbags since you can also go to an artisan who makes quality leather bags too.

Couldn’t agree with you more on the Cartier love, nail collection. After 15 years of owning the love bracelet, I sold it b/c is no longer special.

I am with you on Chanel flap and Speedy. I own Chanel, but no classics. People on social media drove me crazy with those. I couldn’t see anything special about them. I would love to have a Birkin, but refuse to beg people to take my money. I have looked at that Fendi bag and think it is trendy, even though I like it. I think the letters on the bottom are prone to scratching when you sit it down. I have been giving careful consideration to my choices of bags. I really wanted a Peekaboo and bought a medium one on the pre loved market. I found it to be too heavy and not as roomy with the bar in the middle. I agree, there are bags that I like, but for certain reasons, I will not buy. Great topic.
