Super cool to see those old Thunderbolts in action during their prime.

The cool thing about seeing the dispatch center in the first clip, is that notice on the grey table, that is an old Motorola QuikCall I encoder, with the extension. Today, these are extremely rare and hard to find. What an awesome piece of history.

The siren shown in the video was located at Harry Stone park. Not sure if it's still there or not. Most of Dallas's old sirens are still in place. That's the Dallas Civil Defense director at the time CW McCoy towards the end of the video.

It appears to still be around, according to the most recent satellite views available. Good eye!

It's sad that dallas replaces thunderbolts with 2001-130's, But I may get more thunderbolt sirens around towns in texas and oklahoma.

Holliday, Electra and Archer City still have a few active Thunderbolts. Wichita Falls used to have at least 20 Thunderbolts, but they have been replaced with Whelen Vortexes.

I have always thought that if they were just going to leave those thunderbolts in place that they should just test them WITH the 2001s for EXTRA coverage and then if albeit one of the thunderbolts broke, then no actual coverage is missing.

its kinda weird to see an original thunderbolt like never got restored or anything

Interesting to see that pretty much all the sirens in the system where manually activated.
Kind of makes me wonder how they would of done it at old station 5. given that the control box is mounted well out of arms reach in the station!

I bet they had either had 2 AR timers, one on the pole, and one in the building, or maybe just one timer in the building.

Oh boy I new the Thunderbolt 1000/1000T's are installed in dallas back in 1970's and then replaced it with 2001-130's in 2010.
