I love the way Sarah uses her eyes to act the different roles. She's a joy to watch as a performer and beautiful dancer, too
ryoichi hirano is one hot dancer ...
I'm so glad Ryoichi Hirano was finally made Principal. He's such an incredible dancer.
The way Christopher is giving corrections is just wonderful.
l love Christoper Saunders he is a wonderful character actor, he really connects with the audience, and makes the characters beliveable, and he truly knows his work !
Wonderful artists, a privilege to observe with total involvement, their passion.
One of my biggest wishes is to someday see Sarah Lamb perform. Gorgeous as always
I saw her in raven girl! It was amazing....
Did you ever see her?
I think I love these rehearsals more than the performances, there’s just something so much simpler; it’s about the dancing and acting, not limited by (amazing) costumes or the distraction of others on stage
I am utterly entranced by Sarah Lamb
There's a quicksilver smoothness to Alex Campbell's way of moving that's unmistakeable. And rare as well in male dancers. Steven McRae may have more amplitude in everything he does, like an Aston Martin DB9. Campbell's smoothness of excution on the other hand, is very much his own - like a Bentley Continental.
I didn't know that Sarah was from the US! She is so delicate in her dancing, such class and artistry. Beautiful rehearsal!
Stunning ballet, and fabulous dancers with a sensitive, knowledgeable and funny master, combined with great accompaniment. Thank you so very much.
There are no words for Sarah lamb
What a privilege to watch these rehersals... thank you so much for sharing them with us!
I absolutely love this... amazing to see the process, and to hear the dancers speaking so deeply about their characterization.
Mercutio is fantastic! Always the true star of the show no matter what medium.
Best mercutio I've ever seen.
I love Alexander
Hannah Noelle SAME! And I've seen a lot of them XD
ı really love to watch sarah. she is literally the reason why I'm so in to ballet. ı wish ı could watch her live performance
I've watched this 20 times now. Kudos, Alexander Campbell. Masterful interpretation, effective, and heart-wrenching. I saw the original year production - you're with the best.
Mercutio was simply spectacular!
Such a delicate choreography. So beautiful and amazingly constructed. Thank you for sharing this.
Sarah is such an intelligent dancer. Love her to pieces
Alexander looks great!
This series is incredible. What a great offering to the public.
Alexander Campbell just killing it in this!
Every couple of months I come back and rewatch this rehearsal, it's such a masterclass on Macmillan's R+J
watching the rehearsals are truly enjoyable, because you kind of have time to appreciate all of the movements
Best Mercutio ever. Alex was already good years ago doing the same role at BRB but now even more nuanced... that boyishness combined with the seriousness of the plot... Hope to see it in real life before he gets to do Romeo one day!
David Pickering is a gem, I love it when he hosts these rehearsals! There's one where he's going over mime in Swan Lake with Marianela and Thiago which is so informative and entertaining and just so fun to watch!
It's so fascinating to pay attention on how well their spotting is!
We'll be at the cinema (Silea, Treviso) for the live steaming on 22nd September, and we are so looking forward to it. So this live rehearsal was timely and just wonderful. And so informative. It doesn't hurt that Christopher Saunders, Sarah Lamb and Alexander Campbell are so articulate when giving their thoughts on what they're doing. Might have been nice to hear something from Ryoichi Hirano too, maybe?
Ballet dancers at this level are amazing. They deserve unqualified respect for their absolute dedication to their art and our entertainment. Bravissimi!
Absolutely love this video! Being able to follow in the rehersal so closely really highlights all the intricate details! Hope you will make more of these long rehersal videos!!
I had the chance to see the Royal Ballet with Romeo and Juliet here in Taipei 3 years ago. Marianela Nunez danced Juliet on the night I went to. Everyone was great, and so were the sets and costumes.
But the ballet was almost overwhelming for me: there is so much happening that unless one is already familiar with the choreography, it is almost impossible to take in everything. After seeing this wonderful session, I wish so much to see it again!
Sarah Lamb's bouree at around 29:19 is fire!
Sarah Lamb is an amazing artist with amazing technique.
Wish Sarah Lamb and Alexander Campbell cast as Romeo juliet ..brilliant technically and acting ..also special chemistry like Nureyev Fonteyn ..both so beautiful ..acting flows through their body movements as well musicality
Thanks so much for sharing this. Love all the insight into the meaning and nuance between the characters’ movements. Makes all the difference. Fabulous.
I watched a nice interview with sarah lamb yesterday. Nice person and intelligent.
I loved watching the ballet at the cinema, So cool and interesting as i live 2 hours away from London but love the ballet!
But he's too pretty to die!
dreamyicecreamy The best part is 52:57 when you see him stand up XD Haha just kidding he's an amazing dancer
'dance of the knights' surely gives me the chills
Alexander looks so comfortable on stage! Romeo and Juliet were frozen like statues but Alexander was making himself at home! Being comfortable with adjusting and making yourself comfortable in front of a crowd is a gift.
It was Juliet and Paris, not Romeo, in the rehearsal. Juliet was originally rather like Miranda - "Oh, strange new world that has such creatures in it" just reaching puberty, but NOT in love with Paris.
Alexander is indeed more lively and does the choreography so expressively. Rehearsals are piecemeal, and onstage performance for some dancers, differs markedly, profoundly, from rehearsal work. One must look to complete run-through to watch some dancers develop their character.
Sarah Lamb for me is the most pertect ballerine in the Royal.
My god they are exquisite! When are you coming to Los Angeles? We need good ballet here!
She's such a great actress as well as dancer
Sarah is soo beautiful😍😍
*whacks the stomach with that pointe*
death scene starts 47:40 , starts again 49:55 , then again 52:24
Shakespeare and MacMillan seem like kindred spirits.
When she kicked him 😂😂
But she is amazing
thank you....beautiful
The dancer, even when they're just nodding that's a dance! Beautiful...
Okay not gonna lie, I quite liked the Mercutio-Tybalt push…
What a master class from Saunders
I've just taken part in an Insights participatory workshop, Big Sing Christmas Carols, rehearsing then performing them to the accompaniment of a lovely brass ensemble. It was fantastic! Such a privilege to be rehearsed/conducted/accompanied by Lee Reynolds and Tim Anderson. The event was rendered even more convivial by the mulled wine handed round in the short interval between rehearsal and performance. I'm 65 and just debuted at the Royal Opera House! Ha!ha! I'll be back unless barred for over-enthusiasm.
Great pianist, by the way ;-)
Sarah is so elegant and delicate, then she drops that brain development knowledge like its nothing. A woman of many interests and talents.
i find it so interesting comparing this performance to the one he gave with the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Obviously he was younger then, but it really shows in the character, namely in the death scene when he goes after Tybalt again, in the old video he is a lot wilder with his movements, and when he acts like he’s fine its more class clown than charming. His acting has gotten a lot better also, even if it is out of context :D
Vanessa Murnane j
Is there a way I can find his performance with the BRB?
@@ballerinadolllover2434 Here's the link! czcams.com/video/Ut042IgymWc/video.html
@@vanessakim6890 thank you so so much! 😊
I've seen this rehearsal like five times now. Absolutely beautiful. How can I find the Paris and Juliet's Pas de deux and the Nursery scene in Prokofiev's piano score? What is its name?
Firenze OC I believe Paris and Juliets' pas de duex is in the middle of the montegues and capulets suite
Perfect
they are both so beautiful wtf
RYO IS FIIIIINE
this is magnificent...wow
Ryoichi Hirano is daddy
the video and the audio don't match up
I love RnJ the ballet. One of the small handful of the completely great ballets in the repertory.....
(he used 'literally' twice incorrectly. we hate that.)
Ugh, why are all ballerinas so beautiful ;-;
Their dancing is beautiful, as are their costumes. If you saw them in public you may not look twice.
wait wait wait... at the begining he narates that Romeo kills himself with a dagger, (@2:28) its wrong, its juliet that does it
romeo took fatal poison which kills him, juliet wakes up to find him dead, kisses him to try to kill herself, but to no avail so she takes the dagger and kills herself
Depends on the production as they may have changed it very slightly - but you are right in what happens in the shakespeare play.
What is the first song the pianist plays when Ryo goes to kiss Sarah's hands?
where can we find out where they will be showing the performance on the 22nd?
+Ann Jacobo Have a look at our cinema site - you can search by your location to find your closest screening ^E www.roh.org.uk/showings/romeo-and-juliet-live-2015
Royal Opera House thank you!
Is she wearing cut up tights as a top??
Yes she is. Very creative
common for 60 years.
Ouch thats one painful kick😐🤕
Lol she kicks him.
Sarah kinda looks like Taylor swift
I don't think Christopher liked in when Alexander pushed him at 43:27, even though it was part of the dance. Later on at 44:14 Christopher pushed Alexander back. I think Christopher took it personal 😂

Matthew 8:24-27
And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but He was asleep. And they went and woke Him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing." And He said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey Him?"
Is the first ballerina American?
+maybewise She is from Boston.
Royal Opera House Cool.
Sarah Lamb is such a attractive girl, she should brush her bangs back, she's hiding her pretty face.
She needs a tan
this would be cool without the dude interrupting
It is a practice though 😂
19:00 she kicks him
damn this rio guy is not a good actor
frid watch him rehearse liam scarlett's frankenstein. He plays the creature and it's mind blowing
In this he is Paris, her cousin, who she is not in love with. Just after a moment when she pulls away from his hands running down her arms to her hands, she backs off and turns to Romeo. This, of course is not rehearsed here.
