Meta announced a bunch of stuff worth talking about at Meta Connect 2023, and it's a stat holiday at the office, to boot. TalkLinked time, baby!
Would love more talklinked!
Not to discount your efforts, but what is up with this trend of creators putting an additional description in the Comment Section like this?
@@samusfan117probably to explain their clickbait title so it doesn’t seem like clickbait

Any idea why my frame rate drops hard even with a PC above recommended spec for starfield
In case you were wondering:
"Lady Dimitrescu is depicted as being approximately 9 feet 6 inches (about 2.9 meters) tall in "Resident Evil Village." In comparison, the Empire State Building in New York City is approximately 1,454 feet (about 443.2 meters) tall, including its antenna. Therefore, you would need over 158 Lady Dimitrescus stacked on top of each other to reach the height of the Empire State Building."
Thanks Chatgpt.
I thought they were talking about the Arc of Triomphe, so I asked Bing that; here's the response... "To answer your question, we can estimate that the height of the Arc de Triomphe is equivalent to approximately 17.05 Lady Dimitrescus stacked on top of one another. However, please note that this is a fun approximation and not a scientifically accurate measurement."
@@ClintTheriault I just chose a random building lol
that's a lot of vampire mommies. can I keep one?
@iEnjoyCrows She might object but 🤷♀️
Jesus, girls in Eastern Europe are tall…😮
I love the Quest 2's pass thru, its hard to explain how neat it is to see with vision that isn't your own eyes. Its especially good in the dark.
My quest 2 doesn't work in the dark without the IR blasters?
Yeah. Tie an IR flashlight to it. Take it out for a run in complete darkness or roam about your house at 3am
@@davidha95that's neat as heck. Sounds like a good tool for urban exploration too.😂
With an IR blaster attached, you’ve essentially got night vision goggles.
Yeah, the IR is great. My house doesn't have any large areas for room scale games (like Tea for God) but I have a good size front patio, the only problem is the neighbors can see what I'm be doing. My solution was to use IR flood lights and play at night, it worked perfectly in the near pitch black. Awesome experience playing in the cool fresh summer air! Plus, I'm a night owl anyway.
The only downside was if I looked straight up into the sky it would lose head tracking due to having no reference point for the camera to track. Four pieces of string crossing overhead (like a tic tac toe board) does help, but I plan on buying one of those pull out sun shade things if I get a Quest 3.
From my apple walled garden I sadly am too unaware of non-apple products to even offer an intelligent vote.
I enjoy talklinked thanks for bringing it back so regularly.
This was a fun hang out with on VR and a couple guys I don't mind giving time to. I feel like you guys have been doing a wonderful job post break. Thank you
I really enjoy Talk Linked! More of these please!
you should do more talk linked i LOVE these
I enjoy the longer conversations but I ignore it at night and wait to listen to it the next day at work. You have an immediate thumbs-up but I go away until tomorrow some time.
I'm so upset that Meta is doing what I've been begging Google to do for years. I really wanted the Google Glass 😭😭😭
Fanboys are lame.
@@anythingoriginal I don't disagree, but I'm already bought in on Pixel, and I use Lens almost every day. Having that Integrated into a wearable would be fantastic!
@anythingoriginal not really fan boys. the problem is augmented reality was what google alleged to be in the pipeline with the glass product. they lied about it for years like elon musk about self driving, spacex, etc. then let the product go to waste while others delivered it in a better way.
alphabet is just a trash company that disappointed many from its earlier days
@@anythingoriginal Convenience ≠ Fanboy, some people just choose what works best for them
The main difference between the Quest 3 and the Apple Vision Pro is that the former officially targets both VR (especially gaming) and AR and is an actual purchasable product. The AVP on the other hand seems focused on AR and is unaffordable for mortals.
Credit.
Kidneys.
AVP is made for developers, not mortals.
The VR system where "you can't move" would be ideal for sim racing or flight sims. Or any other sim where you're seated for that matter.
Big Screen is tethered but a lot of sim guys go for Pimax because of the field of view advantage.
"you can't move" is only true, if you don't have, basically, the index full kit but the actual HMD replaced with the big screen beyond.
So it's a plug and play replacement for the index HMD
You say that but being able to lean forwards, side to side ect. REALLY adds to the immersion and is also incredibly useful for racing, Flight sims ect.
@@MMPKit's still 6DOF, just wired
Who tf said it cannot move ?!
The Quest and the Quest 2 are still awesome bits of kit. I have both and one of the original Oculus dev kits and the progress they made is incredible.
I enjoy talklinked so much!! More of these please
I really enjoy these longer form yarns, more plz?
30:25 "sus" did not come from among us lmao black people here (southern USA) been saying it for years
sus is short for "suspect/suspicious" as in someone acting weird or a lil fruity
i first heard it on skithouse in mid 2000s with the nothing sus skit. in australia anyway. so yea way before among us
But yea still suspect/suspicious behaviour
Now we wait for the “META PHONE PRO”!
The great thing about Facebook's "oh you can play PC apps still with our headset" is that they then promptly got absolutely clowned in performance/reliability by Virtual Desktop on their own platform.
They do still sell the USB-C cable tho, which is handy as it's hard to find long high-quality ones.
it's ironic because Oculus came out with AADT (sliced encoding) for PCVR, which VD promptly copied which made VD a usable product. Then Meta released Link Sharpening, which VD then followed up on and released their own version, then Meta released the ability to swap between 264/265 encoding and number of slices, which VD then followed up on a few weeks later. AirLink still has network reprojection (ASW Mobile), which VD has yet to reproduce :)

I'm annoyed that they don't sell the Ray Ban glasses in my country (NZ). They'll let us preorder Quest 3 and everything else, but not the Ray Ban glasses -- we just get a message saying "this product is not available in your region". I actually legit would have bought those glasses if I could.
Nice to have the correction in the video. I listen to this like a podcast and now I get the corrected information.
Creative too! 😅
I loved Riley's deep cut Seinfeld reference right at the very end. Well done 👌
Maybe I missed it but does the quest 3 have WiFi direct
Can I connect to my pc over WiFi without a router 🧐
Love me some talklined and this was quite an interesting topic, really interested in picking up a quest 3.
I did find the head over Riley's shoulder very distracting 😅
Can’t wait for TalkLinked to experience runtime creep like WAN.
All the VR hype is great, but the first time I used vr it was actually Microsoft's HoloLens which was great, and had a lot of the features other companies showing right now - the only issue I had with them was the battery life and the small compute power - interesting to see a comparison of them, and understand why they not hyped having the same features
Jakob and Riley have really good on-camera chemistry, even more than James and Riley. These two could make their own Wan Show lol.
I will admit, I have been using the bing/chat-gpt integration, but not the one that is auto included in your search results, but the one that is more conversational like chat-gpt. But I have been using it exclusively for image generation with the built in dall-e integration.
I always love these episodes
I’d love to see more TalkLinked even if it meant fewer TechLinked videos. I enjoy these not just more than the Wan show but any tech podcast out there, even Waveform

Apple has done all their best to help Zuck selling this product. It’s price laddering at its finest and Meta didn’t even have to introduce a coke XXXL for 30$. Apple did it for them.
The Ray Ban smart glasses are the overlooked star of the show. If Gen 3 adds a HUD I will for sure get one

Do these things still require you to login into facebook or meta in general?
You have to log in with a Meta account but every Internet connected device we own has a login at this point. Your game purchases are saved in the cloud like Steam or any other storefront so there has to be an account system for that at the very least.
I can't wait for my BiscreenVR!!! :)
Guess I'm gonna have to buy this Oculus Quest 3

anyone have the name of the first song?
big thing for me is eye tracking as an input for vr
Sadly the quest 3 won't have that.
wow this show is actually very good, good job guys for real
I just hope the damn lenses are actually more durable. Picked up mine second hand, used it for a few days and didn’t realize my glasses were very slightly rubbing the lenses, even with the attachment. Going to try polishing them to see if they’ll come back, but if not, guess I’m getting a 3 😑
I think the channel thrillseeker published a guide on restoring quest2 scratched lenses
@@andreas4010 that’s awesome, thank you very much for that! Been dreading trying because when I originally looked into it, all I could find was a forum post where a guy used poly watch lens polish and it worked. I got some but have been too afraid to try it out yet 😅
10:25 ah yes, when the zucc successfully markets making an HD scan of your home n streaming it live to Meta HQ as a feature, and these 2 guys don't even stop to mention the privacy concerns anymore. :/
One thing I see is constantly under reported is for example the Quest Pro eye tracking is completely available to developers, it’s not obfuscated like apples is. So the app can watch how long you look at things and all the data they could want from your attention.
This is good. Like, replacing the fireplace good.

It's funny how chatbot went from, the thing that miserably failed to help you, like call center stuff, to a pretty competent AI assistant, like ChatGPT, meaning that calling the original chatbots, "chatbots", went from oh, those shitty bots, to calling these shit chatbots is being generous

For me the quest 3 has the same problem as the psvr2. Yes the tech is impressive, but are there enough compelling games for me to upgrade from my quest 2?
There is a little bit of everything :)
Asgard's Wrath 2?
Assassin's Creed?
Dead Hook?
Iron Man VR?
Battle Talent?

Behemoth?
Ghostbusters?

GREAT NEWS! Rayman Legends servers for 360/PS3/Wii U are... kind of working? For some reason I can't see anyone else's score and every challenge I did is straight up diamond cups? Weird, but considering my "Truly Awesome Achievement" dilemma I can't complain. The fast I get the achievement the better. Last online achievement btw.
Ok wait... what?
Michelin star WAN show - portions are smaller, but that quality though!
Kwebbelkop is waayy ahead of anyone else in the "Personality A.I." thing, I was expecting Meta to actually compete but they werent even close hahaha
Weekly 30 minute editorial chats on the week's news. Please make this happen.
A trade off I see very few people talk about in most coverage is how Meta’s almost entire business model is user data driven. They get to scan your room and use that data for anything they want. Or the Quest Pros eye tracking, which is not obfuscated by the OS, meaning an App can constantly track every single eye movement and your attention.
Do other VR headsets somehow obfuscate eye tracking data? If it is "obfuscated" I cannot possibly see how it's meant to work. Sure, it can be used in system menus or whatever, but how will the engine know what to render without that data? Genuinely I do not understand how that's meant to work in the way you described as if it were the expected behaviour; please do explain I might be wrong in this.
Am i the only one who noticed a background tune/music playing in the video? It distracted me a lot because this was the first time I put on fancy headphones and i can now hear it clearly.
I was so confused in that ad read. What the hell is a "Instant Coffee Pot"? And why is loblaw's No Name brand making them!?
Is this... is this a new show? I've never seen this. I like this.
I believe it's the third time they did this. They've explained that a "TalkLinked" is much easier to put together than a rapid-fire, joke-per-frame TechLinked / GameLinked, so when they're up all night, say, covering a big keynote, they'll just plan to put out an unscripted "podcast" in lieu of the usual show.
Might have to finally upgrade from My Oculus Rift CV1 that has been collecting dust for years.
Is there piano or slow music playing in the background? Just me ???
wtf yalls Mickey voices were perfection
15:51 It's "HD" in the sense that it's the same pixel density per degree (based on Meta's specs it's 18 PPD) as a 70" 1080p monitor 60 cm/two feet away from your face. I had a 42" 1080p display in use a few years back at a similar distance, that had a PPD of 25 and you could easily see individual pixels, so I'm not exactly jumping for joy for a much lower resolution experience. You're correct though that it's not entirely directly comparable.
I love Riley's Tim Apple voice
I'm still sad Google Glass was killed; they were way too far ahead of their time :(
Quest 3 is roughly the same power as PS4 but as a Standalone VR, how cool is that?
Quest lines are fucken insane. Is the only gaming device I like to buy after quiting console in ps3 era
more talklinked please.
I wonder why is everyone talking about the price of quest2 being 300 bucks, and quest3 500 bucks, when in reality quest2 costs 500 bucks, and q3 will be 650/700..
I want to get the Quest 3 so bad, but there are things that still bothers me a lot (FYI I have never had any VR headset).
1) The fact that I need a Facebook account is annoying and it is concerning that I can get blocked from using my device if I miss use the platform (whether I am aware of my actions or not). Would there be some way that I can use the headset as a PCVR unit without a facebook account?
2) I want to use this with my PC as a PCVR headset, but I am not sure how well that would work, I am aware that you can use the type C port on the headset for this, but all they mentioned was that the port was for charging. PCVR is going to be a big reason why I own the headset so I want to know I can use my PC with it flawlessly. Also if this works, how do I use an all AMD system that only has one type C port on it?
3) how experimental is experimental, they say there is a 120hz feature in experimental, but does this mean I wont be able to use said 120hz mode with everything?
1. You don't need a facebook account anymore, they only did that temporarily and there was so much backlash that they walked it back quickly. You can use a more generic 'Meta' account that is not connected to your facebook profile.
2. It does work with PCVR through the oculus app, both over usb-c and wifi. If you use usb make sure you have at least a 3.1 port, and a nice cable (the cable does make a difference), if you go the wifi route, then make sure you have at least a wifi 6 router, having a dedicated router just for VR streaming is optimal.
3. Experimental means it works, but isn't officially released as a stable feature, meaning maybe you see artificing or other stuff, or maybe it doesn't work with all apps, but generally when they put stuff out in experimental it's fairly reliable. (unless things break catastrophically, things move from experimental to a full feature pretty quickly)
Quest 2 is a good headset, so I have hope for quest 3 but this depends on the adjustability of the headset and the software powering it. Quest 2 isn't without problems but these are problems I can work around, so I might buy one and test it out before selling off my quest 2.
For me I'm upgrading from a Quest 1 so I know Quest 3 will blow me away! I have a PSVR 2 as well, but being tethered to my PS5 and also only being able to use the limited VR apps available for PS5 has been a problem for me, but I won't get rid of the PSVR 2 because Gran Turismo alone makes the headset worth it for me -- that's all I use it for! I'm very excited about the Quest 3, especially the mixed reality applications!
@@MVIVNpsvr2 is better in many ways like display tech and hardware of the ps5
