I remember watching this video when I was around 4 or 5, and watching herbie, now I am close to having a license and saving up to save a local 65' bug or a 12 window splitty down the road
@@finn3188 Still trying to get the 65. The splitty I won’t be able to get sadly. It’s all his dad’s stuff and he passed away, and he won’t sell any of it. I help the old man work on the 65 every now and then but it’s just too much of a project for him, I hope he sells it to me one day.
@@tannerharris3015 aw, that kinda sucks but it's still understandeble for him. Really hope you get the splity. I found one in a barn on my grandmother's property, so I'm going to pull it out this summer. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪!

Very sad video, but true! I am a huge Vw fan from Italy, and I saved a 1972 Bus in wonderful conditions from a very sad end. Nowdays I own 6 Vw's and hate to see how people disrepect classic cars and my beloved Volkswagen! A Vw is for life... Cain Classics Naples, Italy

The VW Beetle convertible at 1:30 looks just like the one my dad had when I was very small, it was the 1st car to me, he would drive to the beach with the top down, we had fun at that time, but it eventually broke down I think I was 4, my dad had it in one of his properties, I felt so bad when it broke down, it felt like I lost a family member. RIP 1960s VW Beetle I don't know the model year, I was too young to know.
Years ago there was a utilitarian car that was easy to work on, cheap to run, not all that fast, but in 72' was getting 52mpg. Now we have technocrap that costs $20 to change a turn signal. Some people call it progress.
so many restoration possiblities!.. and thats in the first few seconds!.. reminds me of the VW garage run by a friend of the family back in Oakville (ON, Canada)... one of my favourite places growing up.. damn near cried when he retired and sold the shop.. now its just some generic garage.
I miss my 69 vw bus and my 74 beetle :( someday I will complete another project.. It's a great feeling to take something like in these pic and bring it back to life, you would not regret it at all...and YES chicks do like the VW'S :)
Damn, All those beetles just rusting away. Shit that sucks. I own three and i am about to get another one, and I love them. They are just so awsome. If i was a millionaire, i would buy all of the VW's i can find, restore them, and sell them cheap, just so other people can enjoy them.
damn this video gets me thinking, what if all those vw's could talk. the i could spend my entire life sitting and listening to them tell me their stories. air-cooled volkswagens are some of the coolest cars ever
I really don't like VW, as a car company. But nobody can dislike the Vw Beetle. Such a nice and adorable automobile, the true dog with wheels. You can trust it as friend in any occasions.
One can only hope that possibly some of the cars shown here were saved and are back on the street's. seeing that oval window sedan with the crushed in roof really hurt to look at....OUCH! Inreresting vid Bro. Lola
Not everyone thinks of "peace and love" when enjoying the VW. People like me (car freaks) just like the style. I love the look of a 60's VW, sitting low on some Empi rims, with the bonnet removed, a chromed out motor, maybee a surf board rack. I owned a 70 bug, unfortuanatly i had to sell it. BUT I WILL OWN ANOTHER!
wow, this is quite sad! i wish i could save every one of them! damn ,im gonna have nightmares thinking about all the abandoned ones now! rust in peace vee dubs.amen.
man oh man i was watching going man some of those look great I bet that the car is still good and they just left it for a new car I am buying a 68 beetle myself. its a dark blue.
there is a rusted old bug near my house that has years parked. The owners want to junk it but I want to save it. I couldn't believe it but it runs perfectly
Then again, they did have their time to shine and now that time is over so they are aging gracefully. But it is sad to see those split-windows rotting away.oh and by the way i know were they are located.

my grandfather had a 68 Camaro. an it was beautiful. then, they got rid of it because it was too expensive. then, they got a 80's audi quattro and got rid of it for the same reason. now they have a 1996 toyota camera. my grandmother has a '01 VW jetta vr6 turbo. which they will give it....TO ME! for my first car, I will never do this to my VW.
Several Agencies from the Mexican Goverment used VW type 181 ("Safaris") in the earlies 70's and 10 years later most of them rest in yunkyards property of the Goverment (Wich means "No parts for sale"). I saw in a field property of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (A public health institution) about 70 or 80 type 181 waiting for the scrap yard. The type 181 was unsuccessfully launched in Europe in the late 70's and all the production line goes to the VW's mexican facilities.
i am considered an oddity in todays day and age, im in the generation "Y" group (todays 20 somethings) im getting ready to buy an old 74 bug for all the right reasons... this makes me feel sad, and i agree with americanmuscleof1969 and say that fords today are not what henry ford envisioned... i think he would feel sad at seeing this too. anyone should be able to love a classic..
@hunterziegelmann Chances are most of those parts kept other Beetles on the road. Or maybe it's the leftovers from a massive dune buggy factory somewhere? I sold a '68 for a hundred bucks because I figured letting someone make a buggy from it was better than watching it rot away. It had a welded pan and my dad didn't think it was roadworthy, yet we went airborne in it several times without a problem...
shame left to rot. some may have been in a good running position and were just forgotten.some others might have just needed a simple repair such as a battery. the rest either got into a freak accident or were neglected to the point that they seized and were deserted but almost all of them could have been salvaged for parts. :( depressing
Oh my gosh! They should be brought up on charges! Lol, i'm in Canada and there are none of these around. I had to get one in colorado and heve it sent here. Those should have a chance to be resurrected! Hurts soooooo bad.
