Screaming and insulting and finger pointing is not coaching hard. It’s trash behavior and it ruins players mental states.

Apparently Stan was riding his brother's coattails. The thing about people like Stan Van Gundy is that until it catches up with them they are incredibly nice to their bosses. That works until they get exposed for not being effective and end up out of the league. The problem is that because Jeff Van Gundy did a good job establishing the family name so this allowed his brother Stan to screw up several players and franchises. It ends up working out for Stan because by the time everyone catches onto his act he's got financial security.

This segment made me feel ashamed of myself because I used to think Stan Van Gundy was in the right. The coaching culture was always messed up, centered around trying to discipline young black men. I say that because I've never seen a coach, black or white, yell at a white kid, ever. The worst part is, I used to experience that myself, having a horrible coach who is too simple minded to be anything other than racist but the problem goes deeper than that. If you think NBA players were affected by this, just imagine what kids like myself with no nba potential had to go through.

As kids we were all confident in ourselves and the coaches we had were old school and thought they had to break us so we could play their old tired brand of high school basketball. When I played JUCO ball we had a head coach that would curse us the fuck out every practice. Even after I had a 100+ tackle season this man still asked me “Cornejo, wtf did you do last year? Absolutely nothing!” Lmao it had to have been his way of trying to get us right but in all honesty that Shit was STRESSFUL!
So as a coach now, the only time I go off on my players is if they’re doing shit they know they shouldn’t be doing. And even then I just give ‘em a look and they know wassup lol. Coaches have to teach at the end of the day

      Kobe actually quit respecting Phil.
Phil Jackson gave Kupchak an ultimatum - “Kobe or me.” Lakers traded Shaq and let Phil walk.
Then after two losing seasons they re-hired Phil (2006) and went to 3 straight Finals. Kobe had matured and quit disrespecting Phil in front of the team.
