  • I tried reading Chapter 1 of graded Mandarin Companion Reader "Just Friends" at the Breakthrough Level. Just goes to show that passing the first 2 HSK levels doesn't necessarily mean you can comprehend much beyond the confines of the exam format -- which is why it's important to expose yourself to materials beyond standardized tests.

Tried something new today. What language(s) are you learning? 🌍

P.S. Do you think I should start a separate channel for language learning-related stuff? 🧐 Ofc it would be too much of a coincidence if all of you were also studying Mandarin 😄

Chinese living in Amsterdam here! I am self studying Dutch for the inburgening haha, super interesting to see your video and see the other way around haha! Your level is higher than you think, for example with 天天,your first intinct is that " is this everyday?" and I was like yes girl you got it right! haha

cuz 天天 literally means day day, so it means every time. for example like 次次,similiar structure, 一次mean one time, 次次just means every time. 顿顿,一顿饭,one meal, so 顿顿 means every meal! 人人,everyone, etc\..

@@weifang24 woah thanks for explaining that! 顿 = a new character for me. This reminds me of a time when a girl explained that 人 is one person, 从 is two people following each other, and a character I forgot with a third 人 one top in the middle, you have many people (or something similar).
In case you somehow want to buddy up and exchange languages, let me know 👀 I'm not good with any technical grammar, but I cán always tell what sounds/feels right in Dutch. Subbed to your channel hehe.
Best of luck with your inburgering 🍀

Reading is a great way to learn, especially using a reader with a pop-up dictionary like DuChinese or Pleco.
I started learning Mandarin using DuChinese and just by reading the stories I reached the point where I can read native children's novels. I haven't needed anki so far at all.
