The Hindenburg developed a leaking gas cell. It is believed that static electricity sparked the hydrogen causing the craft to be consumed by fire. Hydrogen was the gas used to inflate it. Of the two gasses mentioned Hydrogen is the lighter and flammable gas, Helium is nonflammable.
