I'm normally a Hunter main, but I have been really enjoying the Arc 3.0 Warlock and their crazy "Lightning Surge" melee in Season 18. Dead Messenger is a little cheesy at the best of times, but combined with the Blink melee it's truly something else and I have no doubt Bungie will have to nerf it at some point. Enjoy!

Ran into a guy in trials running this but had the claws for the double melee. Literally, all he tried doing was bait a charge, run away, and repeat. Luckily he was pretty bad.

You want to shoot the dead messenger as you slide, if you shoot then you slide it makes the combo a little too slow
^ This right here. It's more "slide->shoot->melee" in one fluid motion. It's the same as slide->shotgun->shoulder charge on a Titan only this is much more forgiving.
That's impossible on controller at least. When you shoot while you slide, it cancels immediately the slide. And then the melee did not prok. You have to slide again.

@@unkystavros9706 hm. I tried it solo in private match. I think I got it 1 time working, but it's really not easy to do consistently. Or I need more exersize maybe. But I'm pretty sure Jake now it, and don't do it for a reason. When it doesn't work you are pretty messed up
@@unkystavros9706 you where right. I managed to get it done several times in a row. If you do the melee fast enough the game thinks you are still sliding. Then Jake needs more practice I guess😂
Nothing more awkward than run slide blink melee into a crowd and they all live... Like, "uh, hi fellas."
I think many folks know if they see a warlock wearing pajamas running straight at you like a titan... Just put your fist out and let him run into it.
I tried this with Claws and Ophidians, both have merits but I had the best luck with Karnstein. Often when you come out of the melee you've taken damage and Karnstein keeps you alive more often to follow up in case you only clip them with the melee blink.
Karnsteins is for sure the pick.
The arclocks biggest weakness IMO is survivability.
I run crimson and explosive personalty for the 1 burst after a tag with Explosive P.
I think the only other three options for the combo are ophidians cause they are probably just the best overall warlock exotic, and help with weapons swapping/follow up melees for the cleanup.
Transversives for a better slide (lets you "zig zag" with the combo)
The worse of the 4 is claws.
Thing is, as good as the combo is, its not ALWAYS up and even when it is up its not always the play.
IMO its best to pick an exotic that helps with more than just the combo, as "op" as it is.
Claws Of Ahamkara is probably a better exotic for the build, let's you do the combo more often.
That's what Aztecross was using for this "build."
I think karnstein is best in my opinion .
there's actually a more consistent way to do this, if you slide first you have half a sec to fire dead messenger and then immediately follow it up with the melee button and if you do it fast enough destiny still thinks you're sprinting

Build looks fun, but curious, how come went with harmony on PoM instead of Moving target, or does moving target not do anything on PC?
You can also slide over ledges, and it will create a landfall under you when you slide melee.
Does it make any difference using Arc grenades on the Dead Messenger?
Watching your play style helped me get better and help me to go flawless in freelance

Fun one aside from Claws and Ophidians is Karnstien Armlets; hilarious to heal after melee kills to challenge the next guy with good health
Transversive steps always drop in the high 60’s for me. These always get me hype to keep grinding freelance playlists!
Can be worth switching Dead Messenger to Arc if you have time and it works with your build
Something I've thought about after seeing this build a few times now... Why not use Explosive Personality with Auto-Loading & Disruption Break!? I get that Dead Messenger has the 3 waves but I've also noticed in almost all the gameplay I've seen of the build, an Explosive Personality or even a Forbearance would do the job just as well!
You have Disruption Break with EP so anyone that's hit by the wave takes increased Kinetic damage so follow ups if needed, potentially team shots too.
Forbearance could be the sleeper here though! It's Arc! Use Chain Reaction paired with the Fragments that cause explosions & blinding!? Anyone not killed by the GL or the Melee will almost certainly get hit by the Chain Reaction from the GL or the follow up explosions/blinding from the Fragments!
Then the Shadebinder, I'm absolutely with you on this Jake! Whilst the right Fragments will definitely make it so recharge is pretty fast, having max Discipline PLUS all the extras means you can SPAM Coldsnaps, lockdown escape routes with a Stacey Turret etc.
Its for sure the pick, i run explosive p and crimson for the easy 1 burst clean ups.
That in combination with karnsteins gives the arclocks one of the strongest 1v3s imo.
@@bryophytamantodea7254 Happy to read Explosive Personality is working well! I've seen people use quite a few different Exotics with this set up too! Karnsteins as you mentioned, Necrotic Grips, Claws of Ahamkara, Felwinters Helm & Winters Guile, which is actually pretty badass! There's multiple different ways to use the same base idea & if we can add Explosive Personality & almost certainly Forbearance into the mix too!? We've got a pretty damn good mix of options to get the build rolling.
I’ve done this on void to have devour up but arc seems better because of jolt and the AOE of the melee.
I love 1v1 moments where I slide in and get the melee off. they never see it coming. claws would be good for this build too since you get two melees

Karstein Armlets are amazing with this build. Get one kill in a group and you can just punch them all and heal.
used this build week 1 on trials for solo, its such an easy build. went flawless a few times since
You need one of each class: hunter, warlock and titan. Each with dead messenger. Arc Warlock with slide melee, arc hunter with slide melee and arc titan with shoulder charge. Everyone has fun
Just a tip for this build Jake. It's a lot quicker if you shoot the dead messenger while you're already sliding that way you can immediately do the blink melee after shooting. I've been using this build for a few weeks now and it works wonders!
That's impossible on controller. Shooting a weopon immediately stops the slide and the melee don't prok.
@@yoshi1951 that is not true at all, I've done it plenty of times. Like I said, I've been using this build for weeks, on controller I play on ps5. You must've done something with your settings, or something happened, bc it works just fine for me, and by the looks of multiple comments saying the same thing I said it works just fine for them too

If you are a titan this one is already free to do because of how used you are to the same mechanic, slide, shoot, punch.
The big difference is the warlock is completely immune to damage because they're warping. It's like having the Bakris dodge do damage on a shorter cooldown, on an aspect instead of an exotic.
@@ghostrobot3714 you’re not immune to damage for either. it’s entirely possible (tho still unlikely) to get shotgunned out of the melee and I’m pretty sure Hynra has a clip of being traced by a Devil’s Ruin while Bakras dodging (by an alleged hacker, not a common occurrence by any means)
In the melee animation you can be shot down. And the blink is so short that it won't help you survive.

I believe it could work. it may not 1 shot tho and it has a lot smaller of a radius.
It definitely works. All the slide melees work where you can shoot before popping the melee

Try doing slideshot one two punch on xenoclast with full choke and accurized rounds and ace of spades. Tbh i used this with blink hunter with liars handshake. Imma tell you this... When all of your pellets hit the guy in super and you melee... Thats a kill. When you shotgun kill one guy and melee the other then melee the last guy with cross counter procted... The whole teams dead. Not to mention you can extend your melee range with lethal current ( and not to mention cross counter also activates when you melee as well). Oh btw... If you had lethal current active already it can secure kills by chaining enemies around you. To be fair, the only reason why i didnt used knockout on titan is because knockout... Is pretty damn stupid. You could have it active and oneshot on a 140 body then melee. Pretty crazy.

Today I've got a triple kill with deadmessenger and piece of mind. I reloaded with dodge and instantly shot a second time😂then cleaned up the third witch pom. That was nasty

I played a guy that had a historical 0.8 KD in trials yesterday who was running this build with 100 strength and ahmkara spine for 2 melee charges. Absolutely wiped the floor with my team even though his KD would suggest he's an average or below average player usually, which feeds exactly into the narrative that this build has a very low skill ceiling

Its honestly criminal that no one is recommending Eye of another World as the go to exotic for this. Eye gives its cooldown reduction even if you already have 100 Str meaning you can fully regen a melee in ~24 seconds. Plus giving you rift and grenade CD reduction. Also, use arcbolts not pulse nades, arcbolt tag is enough to let DM clean up and proc the jolt meaning easy doubles even if your melee is on its short CD.
It’s works well with celestial fire also
I used it and got multiple team wipes it’s great when people stick together
Should use swashbuckler bow with this build to one shot anyone you miss
Run it with Heavy Handed and Kinetic Siphon (or any mod you can consistently get to proc without effort) and charged with light, and you'll get your melee back even faster as Heavy Handed will give you half your melee back when you're charged with light!! Makes the melee much more viable in the case you miss, Now I'm just waiting for a mid range weapon that can roll both Pugilist and Swash ^~^
Also viable with Monte and a wave GL rather than Dead Messenger

Idk omni hunter still shits on most classes but idk if it would be a hard counter to this build
Don't stand close to corners when the lock is close and jump over dead messenger. Other than that there's no real counter other than keep track of the lock and be smarter than them to not get caught. Try to remember if you see the loadout that their main goal is this, so you can play off that

Yeah this is gettin nerfed. Locking out your weapons for a second or two while sliding would prolly help. Played a bunch of freelance yesterday and this shit was a plague. Even if they suck and are just aping, it's disruptive enough that your team scatters (if they even know it's coming), ruining your tactics. Even if you do survive it and manage to kill the guy you (and any nearby teammates) are easy cleanup.

Try it with karnstein. That burst heal is funny cause if you don’t one shot them with the dm and melee you at least kill one and u can chase the other down or run for heal.
